Storm I think with the Tyla issue you Americans got it wrong. She just can’t call herself black cause in her home country South Africa she’s not seen like one. It’s a very hard thing to explain to you guys cause your mind is set on making it an issue. Blacks and coloureds is totally different in SA but they get along. It’s actually “worse” to be a coloured cause you don’t know where you belong. Some have black lineage, some have Khoisan(the oldest tribe in the southern African hemisphere and some got white, indian or Asian. But you can’t classify yourself as black cause they won’t except you. And coloureds sounds totally different, have different “cultural stuff” that they do but black people will still say you don’t have culture cause you’re not 💯%. So if she just flat out said she’s black then her people back home would’ve felt offended. Cause normally coloureds don’t make it in SA or abroad. We’re like the rejects of SA and always get looked down upon. So when she made it it was really something to celebrate and then only her race came into play, but if she was just a normal coloured that didn’t make it no one would’ve worried what she identifies as. So it’s a very complicated thing and I hope you read up on the history of the coloureds before coming for her and thinking she’s denying her blackness. And the way coloured is defined in South Africa is different from America . I hope you get to read this reply

The insane part is that she wouldn't even be classified as "black" in America either. She would be considered mixed race or "other" or simply identified by her parents' ancestral ethnicity.
At the same time, it's troubling to us black Americans how "other people" want to come into our spaces and eat off of our culture, but separate yourselves from us at the same time. We're over the colonialism - no matter what color you are.
Talent she has but she ain't black, only is because she can benefit from it now. Truth be told everyone does this.
