As someone who has used the iPhone 12 Pro Max since February, I strongly agree with your points. Photo quality just isn't that nice without having to do manual adjustments. Now I pre-ordered the Pixel 6 Pro and will see how it does.
Yes this is an issue with the 13 Pro, I love apple but idk what they did with the 13 Pro cameras, I actually compared photos taken with 11 Pro and 13 Pro and although the colors are punchier with the 13 Pro, the pictures with the 11 Pro are more natural and also way sharper, how is this possible? the cameras were upgraded and are bigger but the 11 Pro still shows better pictures, lets see if apple can fix it with a software update
S21u became a great overall phone. I took some pics the other day in Brighton, after Oct update and i was surprised to see some awesome results across the lenses, well done to Samsung for finally giving to customers what was advertised
@@joaonunomarques I use night mode in indoor light (yellow bulb light),photos comes pretty well. Zoom is a bit more usable/stable. i'm honestly glad that u pointed this out i always said the hdr on the iphones just doesn't seem to be working half the time almost everytime when u take picture of a landscape or something, part if not all of the sky is blown out, when the 12 was the only iphone nobody said anything about it and when the 13 came out everyone started talking about how the hdr on the 12 was disappointing and praising that on the 13 but the 13 isn't all that different it still has the same issues
Something I've not often seen pointed out is how the newer iPhones add a very significant amount of highlight contrast which greatly and also falsely exaggerates textures and details of any light coloured objects. It doesn't look anything like the real thing. I've noticed this since the iPhone 12. Own the 12 Pro Max and S21 U here

I have a friend who has a 12 Pro Max and I myself use a Galaxy Note10+, it really baffles me when the 12 Pro Max can't take macro photos whilst my phone that's older can take good macro photos. Hell even the iPhone 6s I have can take better macro than the 12 Pro Max.
Yeah, because the 12 Pro Max literally doesn't have the hardware to take Macro Shots with the UW. The 12 PM also has a larger aperature, so again, no surprise that it can get closer. Also why not just use the Tele lens?
I get that Chris of Techtablets' vibe whenever I read this video's title. TBH, iPhone 13 series are great for vlogging & longer software updates but when it comes to still images photography particularly higher megapixels, certain Android flagship phones are getting much better.
Yeah I totally agree with the title some photos look better on my 3 year old iPhone Xs Max which makes no sense because the iPhone 13 Pro Max is newer with more advanced cameras
Firstly I'm a big fan of your channel. In terms of stabilisation all I can think of is maybe you have a faulty unit? I have both 13PM and S21U and the stabilisation on 13PM is ultra smooth, that is exactly where S21U falls behind. S21U is also not great with higher frame rate videos where 13PM wins hands down. Every other aspect is a win for S21U including portraits. I love S21U portraits, Macros and Zoom.
It’s not about video stabilisation, I’m talking about the viewfinder experience here. For videos iPhone is generally better, I’ll make some video comparisons in the coming weeks

Wow. Kudos to you. All the cons mentioned were blamed only for samsung before. Even now many yet blames for it. But seems the truth is the opposite. Samsung have really surpassed those issues even better, but sadly many reviewers doesn't tell the truth.
How do you compare it with the mi 11 ultra? Theres not alot of reviewers who spend money to buy all their phones other than you. The only one which does with a big channel is flossy carter but his reviewes arent as focused on gaming benchmarks or camera. Theres also alot of apple circlejerk especially in north America (where majority of the large reviewers are) as theres no android competition and samsungs marketing/ market penetration has been really poor I think you should do video comparisons too since everyone says apple is best in that area. Will you be reviewing vivo x70pro+?
DXO Mark goes into even more depth but has the camera well ahead of the S21U as Samsung had far more issues at launch. Samsung has resolved these with updates and I suspect is much better now. So we should maybe wait six months to test the iPhone then to make a fair comparison? Whatever, from Day 1 the iPhone is rated significantly better than the s21U was, so for me, it remains excellent and of course, scores higher in video which is why most users choose the iPhone camera.
@@androidoneiu5206 For the average consumer both are fine but I mainly buy for video so for me the iPhone remains the de facto choice. I am hoping Samsung ups their game next year for videography and maybe does not cheat their fans by putting lower camera hardware in their $1800 apex device, the Fold3! Shame Samsung does not let reviewers compare the Fold3 -v- the iPhone as it would not look good!
Really great & true review! I had bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max last year for the best camera performance (said by many reviewers) and I was totally disappointed! First of sll, you make many good points in this video. And Tbh i like your content generally but this video has a few problems, this is why ill note a few things. Usually you seem to be pretty objective on your videos, your recent videos seemed to stick out on that for me personally. also your claims about youtubers and why they generally dont have the same view as you do in this video is pretty unfactual and i can not agree on it. Its kind off the ‚seeing a conspiracy where there is none, to give legitimacy to your viewpoint‘ thing. ‚Everyone is wrong but im right’. And it is a weak argument when you look at all the different views that professional/amateur/etc prople share on this phone in general. It is normal to have preferences about camera and image quality, but dont turn this into a conspiracy debate because the majority might disagree with you. This just makes you look weird. Imo you dont differentiate all the things to consider in a phone camera. For example: It isnt the stabilizations sole purpose to make the video perfectly fixed, as there is stabilization artifacts of movement to consider as well as image degradation. Also, the new stabilization system on the iphones vastly improves in other areas as you think. Im talking about high frequency shakes. There is comparisons on that, when you mount a phone to a car or drone footage is unusable on most phones. Iphones are great for those scenarios. Making footage 100% stable isnt the problem, companies chose tradeoffs how to calibrate their stabilization. Next point is hdr. Would you review a pro cameta the way you did in this category, they would all ‚suck‘. hdr isnt a one way trip. Each company has their own recipe and algorithms that they improve. It is a balance between keeping the image contrasty and real-like and extending the dynamic range. It isnt about giving you pictures that have more highlight and shadow details than your eye can see. Also there is artifacts, flat images, shadows that are brighter than other areas in the picture, which in reality looked different. This is especially true for your night mode arguements. Also you keep mentioning how the iphone somtimes hits bad colors due to white balance instabilities, which is true. But you compare it to a asmsung photo, that is very obviously obversaturated and thus also off color and say it is much better in terms of color accuracy. Again, you might prefer it but you didnt word it that way.
He's simply doing it to gain the appreciation of disgruntled Android users. Over 90% of camera tests show iPhone 13 Pro Max as being CONSISTENTLY better than the Samsung 21 Ultra. So he wants to say that those channels are all supported by Apple? iPhones are still better than Samsung phones in photos and video.
Definitely Agree With You, But What I've Just Saw From Your Comparison is That The Ultra Wide Lens Is Better In The iPhone 13 Pro Max Especially in This Shot 13:48 / Cuz If You Look At EXIF Data You Can See The iPhone Took The Photo With Higher Shutter Speed And Also Has More Shadow Details And White Balance :3 But In The Zoom Department The S21U Win Without Thinking.
The exact same thoughts I have! The only things the iPhone really is the undisputed champ when it comes to camera is video recording. Something unde I'd like to know about the S21 Ultra is if it can take night mode portraits with the telephoto cameras.
This reminds me one bit. I did video on iphone 11 and the white balance was rather unstable too! Same story as yours iphone 13. Thankfully iphone 11 oversharpening is not as bad as iphone 13.
I don't like the shadow crushing, and some of the vingetting on the iPhone. It does so many things well, but the processing isn't as much to my tastes, and it seems to be getting filled with too many processing features
The only part i dont agree with is the statement at 8:00. I have s10+ and i know how samsung hdr works. For heavy hdr scenes, phone oversatures the image(you posted a good example of this with s21U a week ago) and tone downs the bright areas to the point of them being very different compared to your eye. This is not nice for someone wanting natural photos. I guess i wont say apples hdr is always better because as you showed there are times, usually at night samsungs aggresive hdr can be better. edit: you can get around this by taking a photo while recording at least though
Apple seems to have a lot of issues on launch that need to quickly be ironed out this year. I feel like this just shouldn't be acceptable at a 1099 price point. I'm hoping they release some fixes ASAP.
Remember the s20U and s21U cameras at launch, they were very average with lots of issues and took a long time to get better with multiple updates. Hence why DXO gave both poor scores. I think Samsung has now resolved those and give the iPhone 7-8 months, like Samsung has had and then do it again. There is no doubt the iPhone camera has various issues at the moment but these days that is part and parcel, look at the Mi11 and their problems, the S21U, et al. Assuming that even the most expensive phones at launch will be perfect is really not grounded in reality as it is only until it is out in the real world that issues become more apparent.
@@andyH_England I mean, hey I have a 13 pro max lol, if anything I'm the first here wanting all of this to be updated, but there's no doubt they'll fix most of these issues, it's just a tad annoying that's all.

Well I did my own testing with an S21U and 13 Pro Max and I found different results: its much more like the other big reviewers said. The 13 Pro takes better pictures almost all the time. Video is no comparison with the iPhone. So Im not sure what you are doing with your phones because my results are much more different than yours.

Thank you for mentioning what NOBODY is saying about the 13 camera, i got this phone to take photos of my products which, which i do indoors, and its FRUSTRATING seeing how the phone processes the photo i took (and i can see this cuz it takes a second or 2 after its taken) and makes it GROSS and disgusting by oversharpening edges, the only workaround is to go to live photo edit and choose another frame and make it key photo but its not the same pic you took so its either zoomed or moved, or i have to use a PAID raw camer app cuz the raw option only comes with the pro version of the iphone... as i said FRUSTRATING
I mean, for me personally food looked better on iP. Samsung looked somewhat blurred. Have you had the opportunity to test again, after all the updates etc.?
They reached the peak of image processing with this outdated 12mp count. The hardware as well as the hdr need a complete real upgrade to catch up with pixel 6 & Samsung s22 if Apple is serious about the competition.
Of course other tech reviewers got their 13 pro max as free 🤪🤣 in simple they are sponsored but not only apple also in other brands. Can't wait for the gaming and camera review of Pixel 6 series. 🤗
In my opinion iPhones up to the XS had great colors and no significant smoothing and sharpening. After 2018 the image filtering started to look like cheap android camera and I hope A***e fixes it sooner than later. The zoom result is more worse than my standard Huawei P30 like the iphone tries to smooth everything and then sharpen it, makes the image worse than capability. Ultra wide camera of the 13 (in low light especially) is worse quality than the main camera of the 6.
Actually, samsung is not good at low light but at normal light dynamic range is exceptional+ quite good stablization, all they need to do is low light and they would be perfect(i have been a long time samfan though)
Yes, low light it is bad compared to Huawei and Google, almost sub-par for the price. It is one of only a few things they need to improve on to get a great camera setup.
my sister’s 13 pro max. The former has more sharpening, food ai is useless (better without it), white balance is INACCURATE. The lowlight is better too bc it doesnt need so much exposure, though sometimes u need to manually activate it. Lastly, i still havent gone more than 3-4x zoom. Overall, disappointed with samsung but it’s still overall great.
The 13 Pro is not bad but: After seeing over a dozen reviews of iPhones 13, compared to iPhones 12 it's just: Slight decrease in saturation Slight increase in contrast Slight decrease in exposure. Slight but really slight increase in detail. In fact nothing impossible to do in post-production with your old iPhone 11 or 12. But beyond all that I prefer the S21 which already there is almost at the same level as the iPhone 13 if not better and will improve over the years and with updates. Unlike Apple, where to get the new features you have to buy the last iPhone 🤧.
They should just add that variable zoom lens that has variable optical zoom if they don't want to add another telephoto camera and they should bring back OIS
I tried the 3 times zoom but it does not switch the camera its still using the main camera 1x with digital zoom , kinda annoying its making the zoom video less quality and lot of noise
low light? then it's pretty common, I also faced this issue, sometimes when iPhone 12 Pro Max would use the 2.5X lens, the 13pm will refuse to activate the 3x, might be due to the smaller aperture
I agreed with you Most of your points are correct , but why I prefer IPhone 13 pro max over s21 U is Better video recording in every situation . We need video comparing S21 U and 13 Pro Max in term of Videography I think this wil be interesting
both phones has different approach in taking photo. iPhone shows the real time image in liveView and user can adjust the exposure real time. On s21u, the hdr/AI done upon shutter release and the auto post processing tend to brighten the shadow. Same as nightmode, on iPhone you can interfere with the nightmode exposure. by default ip13pro prioritise shorter shutter time to reduce motion blur on subject or hand, you can ctrl the nightmode exposure..why not do another video and colab with another pro iPhone user. get the best image from both phones in PnS scenario and its dedicated raw/ProRaw images?
I don’t see any of these points seriously affecting photos in day to day life But thanks for the video, gives apple something to work on Probably getting pixel 6 pro anyway lol
In non-challenging scenes, all flagship will do just great then nothing much to compare. They’ve become so capable that we really have to test them out in more challenging or even extreme conditions to see the gap
@@GoldenReviewer yes 1000% agreed👍 oh and btw, would you mind checking out incipio please, it’s up to you but it’s a case that has graphene inside of it and air vents to cool down your 13 pro max I have it right now and it seems to help out, maybe it’s the overheating solution to iPhones?😅
I had the iPhone 13 Pro for about 4 Days and then sent it back. It really was NOT a good Phone. I was an apple fan for a long time but everyone knows that apple was doing a better job 3-4 years earlier. Now Apple is like "oh wait, we almost forgot to release a new Phone, lets smash sth together fast without testing it". Using S21U Exynos for 6 months and will exchange to 13 Pro. Cons: video, slow main camera, shaky zoom cameras, night mode worse than iphone 12 main cam, often blurry pics from main camera.

I mean it’s not an exaggeration being that it is a top three phone is all the more reason to critique it if this was a $400 phone you would let this thing slide, it’s also the fact that in some instances it is worse than the previous model that should not be why go backwards.

I knew they had to cut costs somewhere I been wondering where it would show up.

How's it better?
DXO Mark goes into even more depth but has the camera well ahead of the S21U as Samsung had far more issues at launch. Samsung has resolved these with updates and I suspect is much better now. So we should maybe wait six months to test the iPhone then to make a fair comparison? Whatever, from Day 1 the iPhone is rated significantly better than the s21U was, so for me, it remains excellent and of course, scores higher in video which is why most users choose the iPhone camera.

Seems like Apple messed up with the algorithm on the new sensor. But the MP is still low compared to Android that have 64MP to over 100MP
For example:
It isnt the stabilizations sole purpose to make the video perfectly fixed, as there is stabilization artifacts of movement to consider as well as image degradation.
I’ll take note of your suggestions, thanks. Any feedbacks are welcomed.
Only channel that i trust on RUclips about phones ❤️❤️❤️
Definitely Agree With You, But What I've Just Saw From Your Comparison is That The Ultra Wide Lens Is Better In The iPhone 13 Pro Max Especially in This Shot 13:48 / Cuz If You Look At EXIF Data You Can See The iPhone Took The Photo With Higher Shutter Speed And Also Has More Shadow Details And White Balance :3
But In The Zoom Department The S21U Win Without Thinking.
I mean they do go back and forth sometimes, S21Ultra is definitely NOT always better.
The exact same thoughts I have! The only things the iPhone really is the undisputed champ when it comes to camera is video recording.
Something unde I'd like to know about the S21 Ultra is if it can take night mode portraits with the telephoto cameras.

Wow so harsh. But i like how u review, i mean the evidence is already sufficient thanks.
There's a huge difference between them. Samsung with 108MP And iPhone with 12mp

@@andyH_England but exceptional in bright light though😌
my sister’s 13 pro max.

The 13 Pro is not bad but:
After seeing over a dozen reviews of iPhones 13, compared to iPhones 12 it's just:
Slight decrease in saturation
Slight increase in contrast
Slight decrease in exposure.
Waiting for pixel 6 review
I tried the 3 times zoom but it does not switch the camera its still using the main camera 1x with digital zoom , kinda annoying its making the zoom video less quality and lot of noise
low light? then it's pretty common, I also faced this issue, sometimes when iPhone 12 Pro Max would use the 2.5X lens, the 13pm will refuse to activate the 3x, might be due to the smaller aperture

I agree with the better video, I’ll do the comparison don’t worry!
Such a sensible and keenly observant review, you caught all of its flaws and why it isn't worth paying so much for it.
both phones has different approach in taking photo. iPhone shows the real time image in liveView and user can adjust the exposure real time.

Overall I’m happy I actually like the S 21 better as an every day phone but being that it’s going on eight months old and is more expensive now than when it was launched by a few hundred dollars because the deals are gone and the fact that it’s extremely easy to sell your old used iPhone and put the money towards a new phone with an iPhone then it is with the Samsung I always end up buying an iPhone full price, but will also carry a 2 year old android flagship as well for a second device
Do you know talking about top 3 camera when its sony IMX sensors doing all the work. Lol we have some iClowns here
