As a figure skater I tried hockey skates let’s just say they are super uncomfortable to use and I forgot I didn’t have a toepick and went to do a jump then ended up falling 😅 i don’t recommend
The toe picks on the figure-skating skates are the reason I fell on my face several times and broke my nose once as a kid. I was allowed once to use hockey skates, and it was truly heaven.
So i recently joined hockey and before i had never put a pair of hockey skates but i used to skate all the time with figure skates and figure skating is much easier switching over was so hard i put on hockey skates at my fir practice and fell over right away for anyone starting i suggest start with hockey skates just in case you ever wanna play hockey because i never ever thought I would play hockey but i do. So yeah figure skates are easier but if you use hockey skates you can keep your options open
as a figure skater, i can definitely say there is a lot more freedom of movement and agility on hockey skates! figure skates are built specifically for tricks. with the toe pick, spin sweet spot and outer and inner edges. when i put on hockey skate rentals just for fun, i was falling all over the place because it’s a totally different feel! definitely less stability on the hockey skates for me! i also may or may not have forgotten i didn’t have toe picks and fell when i didn’t feel them there-
I started playing hockey when I was 5 and I couldn’t skate so I went to figure skating and now I’m the best skater on my hockey team and I’m going to canada games for figure skating
Toe picks on figure skates are so annoying. I can't say how many times I've accidentally used the toe picks. I use hockey skates because they are more fun and it's more my style anyway. Figure skates are fun if you just want to cruise with your friends
As someone who has played hockey for a number of years and pretty confident in my skating abilities i am embarrassed to say the first time i tried to skate with figure skates i fell face first onto the ice-
I tried learning on figure skates, bad choice. I broke my nose because both picks dug in at the same time. I now use hokey skates whenever I go to a rink for fun, and I can go insanely fast
I will one day! It’s in my todo list! They are expensive and very hard to use for beginner skaters.. maybe that’s why they don’t get mentioned too often
When I was a kid, I used to learn skating with figure skates. I couldn't do much progress. I kept falling over the spike toes (or how it's called) and whole my feet hurt. I couldn't find any balance. Started to hate skating. When I was older, I finally got my hockey skates and got better in skating. More balance, more comfort, more confidence. And most importantly - more speed! I feel like hockey skates are better for beginners since they can be also for freestyle. Figure skates are for figure skating. Why using figure skates when you don't figure skate? Maybe it's the stereotypes. Many people still think that figure skates are for women only (because it looks elegant) and hockey skates are for men.
I used figure skates and I have been for all my life :> this year when visiting my family in another province one member mentioned to me that they have year round ice! They invited me skating but.. they only had hockey skates 😅 it’s summer so I didn’t think to bring my own- I learned that I can’t skate in hockey skates for the life of me! Figure skating is definitely easier than hockey for me at least 🥲
I started learning with figure skates (damn rentals are never hockey), but later switched to hockey. Now I don't even know if I can skate on figure ones, the toe pick is scary xD
Im stuck between picking both skates, first i wanted to learn figure skating tricks like cross overs behind and front and yknow some simple tricks, but i wanna be that guy who skates so fast and hella cool i cant decide can you help?
Im a figure skater and I have used both I do think the hockey skates are easier Becouse they don’t have the toe pick witch is the reason for some of my hardest falls
I don't know really. You just look unsure of your skating capabilities. And comparing figure skating to using hockey skates isn't really the same thing. They are totally different styles. If you want to learn to play hockey, you should tain with hockey skates, if you want to learn how to figure skate, use figure skates. I personally don't see the benefit in combining the skills from both
I use hockey skates. I go faster, it’s easier for me to control, and I’m used to it. When I used figure skates I kept accidentally breaking
Yes you need to get used to toe picks 😁
As a figure skater I tried hockey skates let’s just say they are super uncomfortable to use and I forgot I didn’t have a toepick and went to do a jump then ended up falling 😅 i don’t recommend
@@TylerSkates333 definitely if you are used to one or the other switching back and forth is very weird lol
@rollerbearding I forgot how to get them
Try speed skates
If you want to be faster, use hockey skates. If you want to be fastest, use speed skates! 💥
🙌🏽💯
Not really they jusy use speed skates just bcuz
I dont think its up to the skates that make you faster. You can be a beginner and still suck with speed skates
I use a car
Sometimes figure skates can be harder because of the toe pick. You can accidentally fall on it.
Indeed 🙌🏽
I broke my nose because the pick would keep digging into the ice, sending me forward.
This is me. Im by no means a good skater, but I was better with hockey skates. I catch that toe pick a lot.
@@fitthickchic6732 that's why I use hockey skates too 🤣. I also go alot faster
Hockey skates are generally better if you are a roller blader and going on the ice. Because there's no toe-pick
Very true 🙌🏽
The toe picks on the figure-skating skates are the reason I fell on my face several times and broke my nose once as a kid. I was allowed once to use hockey skates, and it was truly heaven.
I like using figure skates, they just look nice and I like being safe while skating.
I use hockey skates because I used to trip on the pick and im terrified of tripping on it again
I understand! If you do try again on figure skates you need to put more weight around the heel and middle part of your feet
Very true! Switching from figure skates to hockey skates is way harder than the reverse!!
Figure skates would be harder to learn with at first cuz you catch your toe edge alot at first
Yeah
Hockey skates, that's all iv used and been around.
That’s all good 🙌🏽
as a figure skater, i can definitely say there is a lot more freedom of movement and agility on hockey skates!

That’s amazing 🙌🏽🔥
I feel like hockey skates are easier, because the hard casing provides ankle stability that's helpful in balancing
I prefer speed skates, I've skated on them my entire life, they're easy to learn on, yet hard to master
Nicely 🙌🏽
I speed skate I use speed skating skates they are longer mine are 16 1/2 inches and they are small plus I go fast
Very nice!!
I’m also a speed skater! Where are you from?
Toe picks on figure skates are so annoying. I can't say how many times I've accidentally used the toe picks. I use hockey skates because they are more fun and it's more my style anyway. Figure skates are fun if you just want to cruise with your friends
I’d say figure skates are harder to learn on at first since the toepick is lethal if you catch it
Toe picks are very tricky! You’ll need to put more weight around the middle and heel part of your foot
as a figure skate user, i can confirm it is the true best
I prefer hockey skates because of the wider shape (im flat-footed)
i learned with figure skates, quickly switched to hockey skates which was SUPER hard getting used to no toe pick-- but now i'm in championships!
As someone who has played hockey for a number of years and pretty confident in my skating abilities i am embarrassed to say the first time i tried to skate with figure skates i fell face first onto the ice-
Dont be embarrassed 🙏🏽! It’s a whole different posture on figure skates!
Figure skates+me=me falling hard on my face because the points hate me.
Wow this short showed up when the last snow melted. Great timing
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Planning on getting a pair of figure skates! I used to speed skate and want to pick up figure skating.
Awesome! Watch out how you put your weight on figure skates! If it’s too forward you will trip on the toe picks
*laughs in goalie skates*
😆
Fr I always use mine public skating
I fell down when I first tried figure skates because the toe pick stuck into the ground 😭 never again
Ahh yeah it’s a small struggle! You need to put your weight around your heels
Ive never used figure skates and I dont want to
I’m going to use hockey skates because I play hockey and they fell more comfortable with me
🙌🏽💯 wise choice
I tried learning on figure skates, bad choice. I broke my nose because both picks dug in at the same time. I now use hokey skates whenever I go to a rink for fun, and I can go insanely fast
I have a question. Do ice rinks have rental hockey skates?
Some of them do but not all
I watched this while going to my hockey tourney I'll show this to my duster of a teammate
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Why is nobody talking about speed skating😢 you should try it out one of the best stadium is Thialf
I will one day! It’s in my todo list! They are expensive and very hard to use for beginner skaters.. maybe that’s why they don’t get mentioned too often
@@rollerbearding thank you for your reaction I will leave a sub
@@FishCat_Gaming700 Ahh thank you so much 🙏🏽
Always start with hockey skates you don’t wanna be toe
picking
When i was like 12 i would go out on my Rollerblade see an kid on his bike or scooter in race them in i would always win

tbh I'm a basic 6 figure skating with hockey skates bc i was insecure but im getting black figure skates
Nice 🙌🏽
Sorry the boys at the rink would laugh at me if I showed up in figure skates 😅

I tested them both hockey skates are easier and I play hickey
If you actually want to go fast use speed skates
People always say hockey are easier for beginners but I disagree heavily
Indeed!
I started learning with figure skates (damn rentals are never hockey), but later switched to hockey.
Now I don't even know if I can skate on figure ones, the toe pick is scary xD
Nice! Definitely a different way of skating but you can get use to it! I switch between both often
Im stuck between picking both skates, first i wanted to learn figure skating tricks like cross overs behind and front and yknow some simple tricks, but i wanna be that guy who skates so fast and hella cool i cant decide can you help?
if you want to go fast, buy speed skates
The last time i used figure skates, i ATE as the toe pick messed me up
Im a hockey skate girly❤
What gloves do hockey players wear when fighting though?
Im a figure skater and I have used both I do think the hockey skates are easier Becouse they don’t have the toe pick witch is the reason for some of my hardest falls
Toe picks make you faceplant
Don’t use figure skates first, you trip of your toe pics
Use whichever skates you want to use! Eventually you get used to the toe picks it’s not a problem
Figure skates are much faster, they have longer and less curved blades. If one cannot use this speed - one should practice more
Actually using Hockey skates are much better for beginners.
I wouls love to atart with figure skates but the cheapest for my shoe sizenin my cou try were 250euros. Meanwhile hockey skates had a lot of options.
If you put flame tape on your skates you go faster anyways
👀👀
If you want to go faster use speed skates legit are just big bars or metal strapped to your feet
Definitely! But the comparison is only hockey and figure skates in this video..
I use figure skates bc I figure skate
I feel like goalie skates would be the easiest way to learn
It could be! I’ve never tried those! I’ve seen a lot of beginners with them tho and they still struggle
They dont have the same ankle support though
I figure skate😊
Ahh sweet !!
uhm.. I went ice skating yesterday, and the ppl with the skates MADE us use hockey skates😶
Yeah, but I kinda am a figure skater-
Gonna buy my first pair of fogure skates soon! I've been learning on hockey rn hahaha
Very cool! You will trip a lot on the toe picks at first
actually if you want to skate faster, buy speed skates, i reccomend cms or maple ( apex's just feel hard )
I don’t recommend beginners to learn skating with speed skates
@@rollerbearding its way faster, im a professional speed skater, how long have you been skating for?
@@Daw1dk yes it’s faster but harder for first timers to learn with.. also very expensive! I’ve been skating for more than 25 years

@@Wayne_Glensky69 yeah first glance might not be immpressive but i do skate in competitions and other international races
If you are learning to skate to use hockey skates with a chair. Figure skates are useless!
Trying both is always good!
привет
Figure skating is barely a sport
Hope you are trolling!
Actually try figure skating and then say that LOL
Hockey skates look cool as hell. Figure skates on men..ehm, you start to question who they like.
It's funny that this guy is giving lessons on skating and he doesn't even skate very well. You don't look very confident on your skates
How so?
Right he doesn’t
