    • @idohearthatersdgk
      @idohearthatersdgk 2 года назад

      Previous hondata videos have stated that they top out at about 350wtq before imploding so I’d stay at the 250 or under range if you’re looking for longevity with a mix of fun. PRL does have a cooler for the CVT that can help add longevity while maybe pushing around 300wtq. Obviously stock will have the best longevity but just make sure you’re not racing everyday and change the coolant every 25k for best results

    • @ValkenDnB
      @ValkenDnB 3 года назад +5

      It’s more accurate because it’s getting it from the actual hub of the wheel itself rather than transferring energy from the tire to a roller dyno like a mustang dyno which reads higher or lower.

    • @kennethpowers8995
      @kennethpowers8995 3 года назад +7

      A hub dyno is indeed much safer. First it’s safer for the operator and people in the shop, and second it is safer for the engine itself because roller dynos can actually mask preignition. Hub dynos are also more accurate because you don’t have any issues of wheel spin and it offers better, more repeatable back to back runs as well as letting the vehicles suspension articulate as it would while actually driving.

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 3 года назад +2

      Besides the extra time in setting up the vehicle, it seems like the future of dynos... (i know they've been around a while). You don't have to make a pit in your floor for the roller, so you can move shops easier and cheaper, but they aren't as quick to setup as rolling a car on and strapping it down... Although. Unbolting 2 wheels might be eazier than getting on your knees multiple timez and cinching down 4x or more ratchet straps!

    • @kennethpowers8995
      @kennethpowers8995 3 года назад +1

      @@volvo09 There are plenty of roller dynos that don’t permanently install in the shop too-Mustang, Dynocom, Dynomax, etc. Many dyno companies actually produce and sell both types of dyno. There are inherent pros and cons of both types. Hub dynos take time and tools. For shops that do dyno days or offer dyno time by the hour for customers just to get data and not a full tune it’s better to use a roller dyno because you just pull up, strap it down and make the run. Hub dynos also typically handle less power. Our neighboring shop has an AWD hub dyno and the rear hubs will measure something silly like 5000+ HP but the fronts max out at like 1400. They also take up space that some shops don’t have where an in ground roller dyno can be better. Also for small shops dyno styles that run off a lift can be very useful because it’s a dual purpose tool, a dyno and a lift so the bay you install it inside of is more useful than just as a dyno Space. Cost is a factor as well because they aren’t cheap. Our shops dyno which has load control features cost around 35k and our sales rep had options going upwards of 50k initial cost, and not all shops can justify or handle that kind of cost. The more successful tunings shops though by and large have multiple dynos and will typically have a hub and a roller setup for different uses.

      The base engine (2.0 Naturally aspirated) is just a carryover. The only new feature it gets is an auto start/stop, but no mechanical improvements or power increases and I doubt they will offer any support for tuning this engine because they don’t offer a tuning option for it now as it stands. Really there isn’t a reason anyway, the gains would be very minimal and the market just isn’t there.

    • @warnerg80
      @warnerg80 3 года назад

      @@kennethpowers8995 I figured there’s something there since the k20c2 has i-vtec. It may only pump out 158hp but its still a 2 liter i-vtec motor. Ya compression is near the 11’s, has a redline of around 7k but we can’t fiddle with the vtec engagement point and tune it with I/H/E and up the revs a bit? On the sport you get the paddle shifters and with some more power and a tune will help a lot. But if there’s no market I get it 😔

    • @mikea5205
      @mikea5205 3 года назад +3

      @@warnerg80 - i agree the K20C2 is a great little engine it's just that people are so enamored with turbos these days. Just a tune on the 2.0 and programed to run 91 instead of 87 would make some nice gains. I'd buy it without question, can't speak for the rest of the K20C2 community.

    • @kennethpowers8995
      @kennethpowers8995 3 года назад +2

      @@warnerg80 You wouldn’t get but maybe 10whp or so with a tune on that setup. Yes it has good compression but that’s only because it’s a GDI engine. These NA earth dreams engines don’t really respond much to changes in AFR, only pickup a little power from timing changes, so you could see maybe 5-10 HP from playing with the advance. The iVtec in this engine isn’t the VTEC you think it is like the VTEC of old. It’s not a performance oriented system, and doesn’t switch to a high lift cam lobe like traditional VTEC. What you would pickup from playing with the VTEC settings in a tune is drivability not peak power because its only adjusting cam timing values. You could potentially get a little more power in the low and mid range RPM, but top end power wouldn’t be increased from changes in iVTEC settings on this motor. I’m not saying a tune would do nothing, but it wouldn’t do enough to warrant the average consumer spending $500+ on an interface to flash a basemap to the car. That’s why the market isn’t there. And realistically I don’t know why anyone would choose the 2L car when buying it if they have modifications on their mind when there is a proven turbocharged option in the same car for essentially the same price.

    • @kennethpowers8995
      @kennethpowers8995 3 года назад

      @@warnerg80 In a lot of ways too they are learning from the experiences with the 9G Accord Sport. It had a healthy K24 earth dreams motor that made a power curve almost identical to that of early J30 V6’s and was offered with either paddle shifters or a 6 speed manual. So Hondata offered a flash for it……and no one bought it. That basemap picks up about 10-15 HP for guys depending on their mods. And then premium fuel is required at that point.
