    • @neilchanmusic
      @neilchanmusic  Год назад +1

      Hey Aman, thank you! You definitely do not need to amplify your guitar to hear the tapping. I play and practice acoustically most of the time and it’s very audible. Regarding guitar quality, you can do it with an inexpensive guitar. But the key factor is how well set up the guitar is. You need to have a comfortable action so that it’s low enough to tap without much strength, but high enough to avoid buzzing when tapping. You may have the most expensive guitar in the world but if it’s poorly set up you will have trouble tapping.

    question: why does my guitar play multiple notes when i try to tap

    • @neilchanmusic

      If you tap beyond the 12th fret, it tends to do that as the string vibrates from both ends.

    Is it normal for acoustics to play two notes simultaneously when you tap a string on a single fret? How do you fix this?

    • @neilchanmusic
      @neilchanmusic  3 года назад

      It is not normal if you're tapping before the 12th fret. After the 12th fret it's quite common so I avoid tapping in that high region.
      If you're getting it all over the guitar, your guitar needs a proper setup from a professional luthier!

    • @philipshergold4771
      @philipshergold4771 3 года назад +1

      @@neilchanmusic Thank you. I really appreciate your reply. So it's normal for the dual notes to occur after the 12th fret? Is there a way to fix/ get rid of the second note?

    • @neilchanmusic
      @neilchanmusic  3 года назад

      You can ask a luthier to see if they can fix it, but I think that it makes sense physically as the 12th fret is the middle point of the string, after which it will start vibrating in both directions. But a professional luthier would know this better!

      A lot of that 'noise' (or some call it 'dirt') is part of the aesthetic of tapping. But that's not to say you just leave it there. That happens a lot above the 12th fret, and is often unavoidable due to the way the guitar is constructed. I try to keep my tapping up to the 12th fret. But if it's happening before the 12th fret you can take your guitar to a luthier to do a proper setup to avoid this issue. It happens when the string vibrates on both frets adjacent to where your finger frets, producing notes a semitone apart (which is very dissonant).
