Start tapping on acoustic guitar right away, it's much simpler than it looks! Tapping strings might seem like an advanced technique for pros only, but even on acoustic guitar you can easily tap strings to expand your creativity with relative ease.
Let me show you how to tap on acoustic guitar from my years of experience playing modern fingerstyle guitar.

Thank you sir, continue the good work..
I see every lesson as a performance :) which in itself is a lesson in musicianship!
Thank you for your compliments
me: that's can't be weirder
He: *reading a Bible*

The song in the beginning is my favourite❤
It helped me a lot, thanks.

Good guitarist behind a pure human much respect
Appreciate that a lot
This definitely wasn't the kind of tutorial I expected coming into this video haha. Very interesting way of teaching guitar. I'll be sure to check out more of your videos.
😁 just having some fun here while teaching. I’ve just posted a video about fingerstyle arrangements, do check it out!
You're something different, my good sir.
Keep it up. Would love to learn a lot more from you.
Thank you! I look forward to sharing more videos with you each week :)
Love how you can read the Bible while taping 😄
The Bible is full of emotion, I do hope to use music to communicate some of that to my listeners :)
You deserve way more subs. Way funnier and more entertaining than I expected it to be.
Thank you 😊 happy to share my knowledge and entertain you in the process
You are my new guitar teacher 😁
Happy to have you as my new student!
I thought you had 1 million subscribers when I was watching the video. This tutorial is amazing!
Haha working towards it 😊 glad you found it useful!
Dawg wrote a song for his guitar tutorial 😂
I subscribed instantly

If you have already tried tapping then this video gives you proper way and confidence
3:25 How to tap actually starts
I'm laughing too much to learn anything useful! I love this guy! I wanna drink with him!
I was looking for a gifted CHRISTian teacher so I'm going through all these videos. I'm using a 12-string and I'm clicking the bell. I really want to learn to worship using the guitar.
I'm happy to teach you what I know Robert :) Yes, it's a joy to worship God with the skills and passions we're gifted with! And we'll keep practicing to improve. Looking forward to sharing more with you!
Wish my guitar teacher taught like you. Sir you are just amazing . Also I love your humour.👏👏👏
Thank you for your compliments 😊 wish I could have more students like you!
If I would've ever met this person I'd never be able to be friends with him because he's way too interesting and I'd feel incredibly boring next to him.
What notes are you exactly tapping here? cause I tried hitting on the same position and it does not sound similar. By now my fingers have got strong enough to tap down but I don't know where exactly to tap. I feel stuck without any progress
You can try working on some scale positions, and after you’re comfortable playing the scales normally, try tapping them out. You can download my scale positions guide at my website under Learn > Resources. Hope this helps!
I don’t know why but I love that first song for some reason. It’s very interesting though.
Ohh I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It's good that you use a classical guitar, because i don't have an acoustic and making it precise and clear for me to listen and understand
You can do it on both an acoustic or classical, though I find it easier on steel strings. By the way, my guitar here is a steel string :)
@@neilchanmusic Seriously i do some occasional tapping, but that sound is always so poor...
do i need a good quality guitar for tapping ?
@@neilchanmusic just because of my poor sound from tapping i get discouraged on tapping...thanks for your video it really is positive
You are most welcome! Don't be too intimidated by it, like all things it takes lots of practice. On your earlier question, it does help to have a decent quality guitar. You don't need a really high end one, but just one that intonates well and has a good action :)
Is that a classical guitar ? 🧐
I mean nylon strings.
nope it’s 100% a steel string guitar!
Khabib : how can you tap, Go sleep😴
So I can think about the tap as a hammer on?
Absolutely! But a hammer on is perceived more as an embellishment or articulation, while tapping notes consecutively can create entire melodies on its on with the characteristic ‘tapping sound’
This guy has two brain , amazing brain control
Zen teacher with a great sense of humor! Subscribed inmediatly!
Singing wise...I can hear a little Bruce Dickinson. I enjoyed watching this video!
Glad you did Cory! Happy to help you along your guitar journey.
wow, wow, wow, genius. clever, inspirational, Oooh love it! from London-Phiiippines, Nueva Ecija, muchos gracias.
Thank you Manolo, glad you enjoy it!
Need another video on how to tap down the chords cause I can't find it anywhere on the internet
I have a few other videos on my channel on tapping technique, hope that they will be helpful!
So, thumb position and some sistematic repetition. Got it. lol
You know the cheesey saying.. practice makes perfect! But you'll never get to perfection but you get closer to it each time
I like this dude.
Teaching in a way where //*Purity is Redefined*//.Pure Soft Gentle So Naturally.
Wow bro you are soo good 🤯
Please tell me that to perform 1 handed tapping.... Do we need a good quality and expensive guitar? And do we need amplifier attached to the guitar to perform this?
Hey Aman, thank you! You definitely do not need to amplify your guitar to hear the tapping. I play and practice acoustically most of the time and it’s very audible. Regarding guitar quality, you can do it with an inexpensive guitar. But the key factor is how well set up the guitar is. You need to have a comfortable action so that it’s low enough to tap without much strength, but high enough to avoid buzzing when tapping. You may have the most expensive guitar in the world but if it’s poorly set up you will have trouble tapping.
@@neilchanmusic Thank you very much senseii for this information.... love your content❤
question: why does my guitar play multiple notes when i try to tap
If you tap beyond the 12th fret, it tends to do that as the string vibrates from both ends.
Good tips. What really impressed me was the song "Valleri" by the Monkees, where Louie Shelton played the lead part in the style of flamenco guitarist Carlos Montoya.
Why is there no sound coming out when I tap my guitar?
Try to tap as close to the fret as possible, and to keep the finger still once you tapped it. Chances are you're moving and muting the string after tapping
Nice video. Always was searching for a video of tapping without an amplifier.
Man you’re funny. But that makes you engaging
Glad you enjoyed it, and hope you learnt something new too!
Bro composing a while song just to teach hand tapping 😂❤
Had a hard time talking with my righty. Thanks!
Haha just more practice to make tapping second nature to you!
You just earned 1 more subscriber And a like
Glad to have you on board!
You are too powerful, i bet you can also cook your dinner while teaching without stopping to tap and sing
Haha, perhaps but I doubt my dinner would taste very good.
@@neilchanmusic 😂😂😂
This was incredibly helpful and unexpectedly entertaining. Thank you!
Happy to help you out and entertain you in the process :D
I learnt tapping but now I need a guitar first.
Yes I would strongly recommend having a guitar to practice tapping ;)
My 25 bucks guitar can't do this 😂
But a $30 one might ;)
Haha funny and instructional! Great!
Thank you!
This guy, eh!
Plz do mor videos bout tappin 👍🏻👍🏻
I have quite a few other videos on tapping on my channel :)
I thot u cud do it only in electric guitar... My guitar doesn't make any sound when I tap
You definitely can on acoustic guitar! Try to tap as close to the fret as possible. You also need low action to get it to sound consistently.
Thats easy with acoustic
But its hard on classic guitar
It’s harder, but doable
thank u so much! u r great ^-^ subbed!
Thank you for the sub Sophia! Happy to guide you along
You release your album bro that will be great
Haha, working on it!
Is it normal for acoustics to play two notes simultaneously when you tap a string on a single fret? How do you fix this?
It is not normal if you're tapping before the 12th fret. After the 12th fret it's quite common so I avoid tapping in that high region.
If you're getting it all over the guitar, your guitar needs a proper setup from a professional luthier!
@@neilchanmusic Thank you. I really appreciate your reply. So it's normal for the dual notes to occur after the 12th fret? Is there a way to fix/ get rid of the second note?
You can ask a luthier to see if they can fix it, but I think that it makes sense physically as the 12th fret is the middle point of the string, after which it will start vibrating in both directions. But a professional luthier would know this better!
I don't have a tendon in my left thumb tip - I can't 'clamp' the neck, but I've played and toured for 25+ years.
While I can't do some of this, it's a great tutorial and very very creative.
I love it because you speak to MUSICIANS and not 'guitar players'.
Thank you Jeremy, and lovely to hear from a seasoned professional musician like yourself!
I can see another Bon jovi here. The feeling is so close. Your hair. Your voice and finally the talent. 🥳🥳
Thank you sir, that's a big compliment!
Got to love the verses from the Bible 😂
😄
the fact that u said somth from the holy bible, that definetly deserves a subscribe and a like
Bro why tf my acoustic guitar doesn't produce enough sound when I tap. Is there something wrong with my guitar or is it just me?
I feel like I'm in a Disney film about learning acoustic guitar tapping and no princess.
I love this guy! Going to get my acoustic today! Thanks for the inspiration
You're welcome! How's the acoustic so far?
This soul is perfectly made. Glory to Maker
I can,t literally understand this guy.
Can you make a tutorial without singing.
Hahaha I love the intro song 🤣!
😁
I wish i was as confident as you
There are many areas in my life that I could use more confidence in too : )
But there are some sounds after the fingers been tapped and is taken out, there's the open note sound.
A lot of that 'noise' (or some call it 'dirt') is part of the aesthetic of tapping. But that's not to say you just leave it there. Learn the skill to control every sound that comes out of your instrument to use it musically. Thomas Leeb is a great example of a musician who uses these 'noises' to great musical effect.
@@neilchanmusic ok I'll try to work on it
@@emyreyes2027 have fun!
Great video and great advice. Just do it lmao
Haha sometimes that’s all it takes 😄
Isn’t this just hammer on?
Yes and no! Technique-wise it's very similar, but musically, hammer-ons are an articulation to notes you would otherwise pluck. Tapping is a method of creating the notes itself, just like plucking or picking with a plectrum.
This is creative lesson.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You can do other stuff when you free your right hand. Catch my drift? ;)
Bro you are the creative teacher i ever sawed your vibe itself fires me to study
Keep up the good work, happy to be able to motivate you :)
You are just awesome!
thank you!
If this guy was a brand his punchline would be: sing your ass out
I love the passion, but I'd rather not of you didn't sing lol
'you can read a book ' 😂😂😂
:D we've got two hands, why not?
@@neilchanmusic haha! I love it, dude! You shifted my entire perspective and approach to guitar and instruments/music in general. Thank you! (I g2g practice and read, ttyl! 😋)
this is funny, lmao
😁 it was fun to make this video!
You are underrated bro!
Thank you, just happy to help who I can!
Incredible tap🤩hyy I am from the Timor Leste 🇹🇱🇹🇱🇹🇱
Ola Rivaldo, hau kontente hasoru ita :) How long have you been learning guitar?
Beautiful voice…
Thank you!
Bro you must get chance in Opera
Artististic nature reflects art of thou artist
Some fun learning
Thanks for listening!
what is the chord shape your tapping😕
What happens when you tap the higher strings and it sounds like there are two strings being tapped (but it sounds bad)
That happens a lot above the 12th fret, and is often unavoidable due to the way the guitar is constructed. I try to keep my tapping up to the 12th fret. But if it's happening before the 12th fret you can take your guitar to a luthier to do a proper setup to avoid this issue. It happens when the string vibrates on both frets adjacent to where your finger frets, producing notes a semitone apart (which is very dissonant).
Good stuff my guy
Thank you Josh!
very nice job
Thanks Chuck!
thank you sir
You're welcome!
start video at 3:00 untill then he is just boooorin lol
