What a great look back at the mighty transcontinal.i well remember the murphy international ones parked at the border in dundalk awaiting customs clearance.i had the pleasure of driving one on and off during the 80s.great looking truck with a great driveline.they dont make em like they use too.
Excellent video my dad had a ford transcontinental he used to park it up at the bottom of the street back in Manchester and sometimes dropped me off at school great to see the heads turn 👍✨
My uncle used to drive a six legger rigid Transcontinental, for A England livestock dealer, from South Molton in Devon. I used go with him in the school holidays, driving from Devon to Scotland. I still remember, being parked in Stirling services sleeping on the top bunk, my face inches from the ceiling. He loved that truck, and wouldn’t have a bad word said abut it.
Blimey the truck @4:05 NWL 886T was my old truck I bought new from Hartfords of Oxford. Bought two actually. Long wheelbase to haul Norfolk Line trailers, bigger fuel tanks, Big Cam E290 Cummins and the later styling. I see it still had my body stripes on it (BMW Motorsport colours reversed), big air horn and 'Les Routiers' stickers on the front bumper. Never knew it did Middle East runs after I sold it but neither truck ever let me down.
Great video as usual any more from the 70 s or early 80 s brings great memories of when I started driving remember those machin boys well always round Lincolnshire picking up produce any tk Bedford videos?
The world famous Berliet KB 2400 Cab introduced in the early seventies. The 2400 refers to the width of 2400 millimeters, because yhe Cummins Diesels were so tall the cab was mounted high on the chassis. The Transcontinental was assembled by Ford in Amsterdam.Back then the KB 2400 cab set the standards and was produced until the early 2000's by a local truck builder in Algeria of all places
Ford really gave it their best shot. The Berliet / Renault cab design was only second to Volvo’s Globetrotter at the time. Ultimately their purchase of Iveco from Fiat killed the Transcontinental legacy otherwise who knows what they could have gone on to be.
Fantastic set of piccies of an iconic truck. Thanks😊
My dad had 5 ford transcontintel trucks brilliant traveld all over Europe with him in them great days
