- A musical tribute to the Golden Girls of MGM from the 1986 Academy Awards. Howard Keel sings and introduces - Ann Miller, Debbie Reynolds, Cyd Charisse, Kathryn Grayson, Marge Champion, Leslie Caron, Jane Powell and Esther Williams
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW....there will never be a group like this ever again :(
You said it.
The Golden era of movies. Those musicals were so well put together ....
costumes, sets, songs, etc.
Back when actors and actresses were true stars and decent. No bad language , tattoos , piercings ,
weird outfits etc. The songs are still wonderful years later....I can still remember them and I am 70.
God bless them all for providing such good entertainment !
R.I.P. All,..you are all missed, it's an era that is gone and will never be back.Frank
Leslie Caron, Marge Champion and Jane Powell are all still with us.
Now, in 2024, Leslie Caron is the one who is still with us@@nathanjamesdance
So wonderful to see this tribute. 1986. And after the loss recently of Marge Champion - only Caron & Powell remain. Just look at these women - all of them well past 40 and several well past 50 & 60 at the time.
Jane Powell is now no more
Howard Keel was 67 here and still very active on stage, as he was into his 80's until colon cancer took him.
God, what a treat! I had forgotten that these actresses and Howard Keel appeared for this MGM musicals tribute. Everyone looks sensational, particularly Cyd Charisse, Leslie Caron, Jane Powell and Debbie Reynolds. It's unfortunate that we have lost Ann Miller, Charisse, Grayson and Keel. Great talents.
Magnificent. Marge Champion, Leslie Caron, and Jane Powell are still with us!
Unfortunately as of January 2022, only Leslie Caron is still alive.
@@LgevirtzNow January 2024. But Leslie has now lived longer than Jane. Jane was 92 and 5 months old when she died in 2021. Leslie now 92 and 6 months.
@@Garsons-oq4lh Let's see if Leslie Caron makes it to 100 like Marge Champion did.
ALL THEY GODDESSES 💖🖤❤💚💚💙💛💓💙
Ann miller beautiful as always! Great talent!
MGM Stars will be the Stars Forever.Their Legacies-their Glamours-their Talents-their Sparkles-their Glories-and their Movies will always linger on in every hearts of old & young generations alike. This fine assemblage of MGM's glittering Stars at 58th Annual Academy Awards was truly-Stupendous.To MGM Studio and all its Brightest Stars- thank you for the great & real entertainment & for the sweet & beautiful memories. What you all had left behind will always be loved, remembered,& treasured.
Those days have been long gone😞
Those old musicals were so special, and the class and romance that shone through will never be repeated. They were technical and creative marvels in every way. Watch Top Hat with Fred Astaire, or 42nd St., and get that magical feeling again, and a sense of what I mean. Or Mae West films.
How wonderful all the mgm stars together on one stage... Magical..
MGM more stars than heaven.....You go girls......Love it....
An awesome trip back in time with some astounding talents.
Thank You so much- I will never forget that magical tribute in 1986 to the Ladies of the MGM Musicals... and Howard Keel... talent the likes of which we'll never see again!
Academy Awards were so much better before the 2000's!
Ladies and Gentlemen....THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I wasn't even born when this was filmed and yet these were the women I remember watching as a child. Ann Miller was the most beautiful woman in the world, I was endlessly jealous of Cyd Charisse, Gigi was my icon and Esther Williams made me want to be a mermaid... I could go on and on! Thank you again, this really made my day.
Love the way,Ann Miller is trying to spit the feather out of her mouth!!!!!
Cyd Charrise! Did I spell that right? What a woman!
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL SHOW💗💗💗
I love Cyd Charisse number!!!
and tribute to Judy Garland ... the queen of musicals!
Oh WOW! These ladies were all in incredible form given their ages! Like Cyd Charisse was in her mid 60s! Incredible!!
I believe that Debbie Reynolds and Leslie Caron are the only two ladies still living from this beautiful array of MGM's musical jewels.
This tribute is indicative of the quality and entertainment that the producers of the Academy Awards are capable of when they assemble the right stars and they carefully prepare the sequence. Just imagine how spectacular the tribute to the James Bond movies 50th anniversary could have been if it was prepared with the same care and attention. Instead of pedestrian film clips and Shirley Bassey, although in great form,, they should have had the array of Bond stars, past and present on stage.
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
When we looked forward to going to a movie and thankfully I have a collection of DVDs!
Marge Champion and Jane Powell are also very much alive and kicking!
and leslie caron
RIP Judy.
And Debbie Reynolds!
What a tribute to all these lovely and talented ladies! Cyd Charisse...still takes my breath away!
Magnificent, without equal.
I couldn't agree more! Everyone featured here looks terrific. Great memories!
Poor Kathyrn Grayson is so fat she can barely move.
Can you imagine if Judy Garland was alive and appearing on that stage?!!! It would have been sheer bedlam from the audience! Garland would have stolen the show, that’s for sure! Thank you for posting. Those ladies embody the word class and style! ❤️
A great, great clip. Boy, those girls have still got it even in their sixties! Thanks very much for posting
What a lovely clip of some of MGMs greatest stars from the heyday of its musicals. Thanks for sharing.
CLASS TO THE TOP
The Musicals were the money makers for MGM and no one did them better
Now that’s a musical number! Esther Williams’ entrance was fantastic!
Beautiful! How lucky some of us were to have lived in the Good Old Days. Imagine such a tribute in 2026...lemme see, Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansen, Winona Ryder...ZZzzzzzz
I only can say THANKS, THANKS A LOTTT!!! That was sooooo AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL, a excellent tribute to the golden age of the MGM musicals, and with the most important female stars, but there wasn't Judy Garland, Eleanor Powell and many others, they unfortunely died years before. At the end of the clip I was crying for the emotion. Thanks again!!
Never saw this tribute before-- how wonderful that so many of the ladies of MGM's golden age were still around in 1986 to participate. Especially love the Cyd Charisse moment with the "Silk Stockings" dance (a rare clip at the time) and the "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" kiss of Marge Champion, and the "Make Believe" reunion for Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson.
Magnificent!!
As is Leslie Caron!
Cyd Charisse entered with Fred Astaire in "Ziegfield Folies" in the most wonderful number, there she is presented with the melody from that number.
Actually its the melody from "Dancing in the Dark" her famous musical number with Fred Astaire in "The Band Wagon" :)
Thanks, I don't know how I could do this mistake :/
Love seeing all the nice comments below. Someone mentioned Shirley Basse and it reminded me, I went to a concert of hers in Los Angeles (late 70's) and was 3rd row center, dressed in Top Hat, tails, really thought I'd outdid myself. When she walk out on stage and saw me, she looked right at me. I stood up and blew her a kiss, she then said....WAS THERE A MAGIC ACT UP HERE BEFORE I CAME ON? I joined in the great laughter of the audience and quickly set down.
03:48 Esther Williams RULES!!!!
Really amazing to see this in 1986 as that’s when I was born:) Debbie Reynolds is definitely the one that stands out the most to me:)👏🏼✨🎥
Fabulous!!!!!!!
I ALSO GAVE UP TEARS OF THE EMOTION🌹
Gracias for posting this! I've heard of this tribute for so many years and here it is! Very true, Judy Garland is missed and where on earth was Lena Horne?!
+vistaestrada I was thinking exactly that.... JUDY was MGM musicals if they had not made her a work horse and put her on pills to make them millions she would be a live and singing and dancing with the other ladies. June Allyson can never do an interview about Judy without breaking into tears. Sad :(
ミュージカル映画が好きな人にはたまらない映像ですね。スター達が勢揃い。
❤🌟A 🌟TRUE🌟 GALAXY 🌟OF🌟 STARS🌟❤
I was just reading about this segment (while researching Geraldine Page's win for Best Actress this same year) and what fun to find it available to watch. Thank you for posting. Just one technical note - in the description only eight of the nine ladies are included - June Allyson was left off the list. At this point in time, only one of these stars is still alive - Leslie Caron (who turns 92 this year). Jane Powell passed away in 2021 and Marge Champion passed away in 2020 (she was 101 years old!). A bygone era, but these legendary performers live on through the films that are treasured by so many.
Brilliant ❤️❤️❤️
Extraño los musicales de las entregas. Me impresionaban. Ahora todo es a la carrera presionados por el tiempo y casi no hay bailables. Se ha perdido la magia y la fantasía.
This is one of my favorite moments of all Oscar broadcasts In the description June Allysons name was left out.
only one girl missing.........
The same year MGM moved out of its legendary studio lot. A terrible loss.
Great
Quite amazing to consider that June Allyson was nearing 69 years old when this was taped...
Really? 70 is hardly old.
@@bigred8432 True, but can they dance at 70?
@@DDumbrille Well, it depends if they were dancers too start with but yes of course people can dance at 70. I had a 70 year old ballet teacher, you aren't going to have the same dexterity or facility at 70 as at 20 but it's not like being a hundred year old woman in a fairytale.
♥️🙏🏼✝️
Great video - i think all these dames were good friends in real life - apart maybe for June Alison - i read stuff about her and it seems she wasnt anything like her screen persona by a long shot however i will be a gentleman and wont elaborate
They do not make stars lie that anymore
gerry wilson i really miss howard ad i'm sure others do
thats when actresses were truley talented. and they didnt loose it as they got older they still had it, look at some of them dancing.
I hope who ever wrote that song wasn't paid much, poor Howard Keel.
What song is Howard Keel singing?
Unfortunately the anti-b&w bias in television was at its height in the 1980s. This tribute ignores the monochrome work of Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney and the movies' greatest dancer, Eleanor Powell. But it does give a good shout out to Esther Williams, who was so foolishly put down by critics in her heyday.
Not that's a tribute!! No wonder nobody watches the Oscars anymore.. They don't do things like this anymore!!
and JUNE ALLYSON
This looks more like 1966...Than 1986???
Do we know who wrote this?
Who invited June Alyson!?!
Kathryn Grayson couldn’t even dance. Let alone walk down the stairs on her own...
What was the point of the is comment.... she was never considered a dancer, and surely a lady of a certain age is allowed a little help in heels and a long dress? I don't understand why the negativity over something that really doesn't matter?!
Kathryn Grayson had been through a lot, and her health may have not been the best, but doesn’t mean you should bully her like that respect your elders
What a horrible song and production.
Again - why comment so negatively?
What a horrible song and production.
Please feel free to provide your own alternative superior song and production.
