  • We visited the city of Nanaimo, BC on Vancouver Island where we took in some of the best things to do there. Nanaimo is a port city and has many parks and hiking trails along its coast, but we found the best views overlooking the city at the top of Mt. Benson. To fuel our climb we made a detour to the Old Town Bakery in Ladysmith, just 20 minutes south of Nanaimo for the best cinnamon buns on Vancouver Island. They were so delicious and definitely worth the wait in line. Jay also got in the water to snorkel at Neck Point, and we went paddle boarding at the Cedar boat launch and beach with friends who recently moved to Nanaimo. Our friends share why they moved here and we are so happy for them.

We frequent the Nanaimo area to visit family. There is no shortage of hikes and beautiful scenery, which the video made evident! The added feature of hiking is the slowing of the aging process!

It sure is! We were passed by a small group of older folks with a dog who made the steep incline look easy! Not to mention the trail runners who can complete the entire ascent in about 30 minutes!

Hi! So fun to revisit Nanaimo through your Lens! You did much more than us when we visited! I guess we will have to go back. The bars! Ahh so good! Maybe you can make some with the recipe and share that with us too 😉🤗

Good idea! Tiny kitchen baking episode maybe 🤔 The first couple of times we'd been there we didn't know there was so much to do. So glad to have had a local with us who knows all the great spots to check out!

Yes unfortunately the ferry can be pricey for oversized vehicles. We were able to get a super saver deal and save 50% by traveling at off-peak times.

This is the best video you have made so far by far!! You showed more scenery and the new camera was awesome!! Too bad you did not go for a walk in Amonite falls beautiful and nice trail! The bird is a raven ! They make a lot of funny noises ,you must go to Ladysmith and try their bakery unreal blackberry cinnamon buns ,tortilla pie yum yum

Reasons to come back again! The lineup at the bakery was out the door when we arrived at 9:30 (they opened at 8) and they were nearly sold out of cinnamon buns when we got to the counter. The blackberry one sounds amazing!

I remember years ago driving to the top of Mt Benson in a 4x4, at that time there was a fire look out tower with a worker stationed there. He kept a visitor log book for visitors to sign!

Nanaimo is so beautiful but always seems to get painting in a negative light. Jealousy maybe? The media love to smear Nanaimo.

It's a great little city. . Maybe not as sexy as Victoria or Tofino, but an authentic west coast community.

@@HomeARoam I find Victoria and Tofino to be phony overrated and overpriced tourist traps. Nanaimo is surrounded by natural beauty that beats both of them.
