Note: This is an excerpt from a longer film available only to channel members who join at the Connoisseur level. This longer video goes on to explain what happened to the monks following their refusal to accept Henry VIII as the Head of the Church in England...spoiler alert...it didn't end well!

Not exactly sure what you mean by saying the Carthusian monks of the London Charterhouse led a comfortable life as you give no detail. I don't consider getting up in the middle of the night to commence the first of their many daily offices exactly comfortable, particularly in a London winter. They were an enclosed Order so they didn't leave their priory. Many of the monks wore hair shirts under their habit. I don't think they ate meat? I'd describe their life as very austere and It's still much the same today. They are by far the strictest Religious Order in the catholic church. Many of the London Carthusians met a grissly death under Henry VIII.....they were hanged, cut down whike still alive, then disembowled and cut up into quarters. Others were starved to death chained up in prison. All because they (in conscience) could not take the Oath Of Supremacy.
I may have made a few spelling errors above?
yes, i think the title of this video is misleading
U r right, they still lead a rigorous life. Great movie about them is called into great silence.
Dear Sarah, thank you for this interesting Tudor episode on the Charterhouse. London's Tudor history is so fascinating in all its facets.
You are welcome!
Tremendous, Sarah! Thank you!
Thanks, John!
I am unsure as to why RUclips recommended this to me, but I enjoyed the video nonetheless
Glad to hear it - and welcome to the channel!
Alas RUclipss algorithms know us better than we know ourselves sometimes...........

Very little about the life of a Carthusian monk as advertised! Disappointed.
Yes I agree very little detail.
Ridiculous.
