I taught English in Russia for 5 years and only took the platzkart, even with a 40-hour journey from St. Petersburg to Krasnodar. For US viewers, it's kind of like a college dormitory on wheels.
Moscow IT worker here, main hobby is trekking new mountains in Russia once a year. I'm usually taking platzkart if it's not completely booked. Because being locked with 52 people is much more comfortable then being locked with 3 more or even 1. No one in platzkart is going to change air conditioning to full heat because they think their child is not warm enough in the middle of summer. Better then taking a plane because it's a great place to sleep overnight and wake up at your destination, saves time like instant teleportation. Yes I've tried all types of wagons. SW wagons were the worst experience because being treated like some king or ubermensh made me really shy, i'll better play table games with people from platzkart.
I rode the train from Moscow ( Pavelyetskaya station ) to Saratov in the '90s. The experience was great. I liked the old Soviet era trains but they are slow. The commodes dump onto the tracks and the attendant locks the lavatory door before entering a city. The compartments were clean and comfortable. And people share their food and drinks. I liked the tea and the tea cups provided by the attendants. Very professional. A great way to tour Russia.
Loud toilet flushing used to make me plug my ears and startle me as a child. The toilet flushing in the video with the caption "flushing from hell", was very nostalgic lol

I used to travel with similar trains 35 years ago. I'd say that if it is the cheapest train, then its way better then how it was back then. And even back then I liked it. If you have to travel 2-3 days in such a train, you will get used to it like home :)
I remember similar trains in Austria 🇦🇹 when I was a kid. When you flushed the toilet a flap at the bottom of the toilet opened and everything was just falling out on the rails.

I wonder what other people thought about the girl on the train talking to herself all day in English? It looks quite a cool way to travel meeting other people for few days on a train.
Great video! I love travel by train. I was in Russia for the 2018 WC. I traveled from St. Petersburg to Bychov (Belarus) via train. It was a fun experience! I love the comfort and the ability to lay down and sleep on train. Well done A. Nesty!!!!
The experience that you had riding the train and Russia doesn't look that different from Amtrak here in the US. Perhaps the Russian trains and more reliable. Here in the US freight trains get priority over passenger trains which can sometimes mean unexpected delays during travel. Have done a sleeper car from LA, California to Fort Worth, Texas. There's the dedicated dining cars and observation deck cars. This sleeper compartment had it's own private toilet facility. Russia does have a wider rail gauge that many other countries. Its 5 feet, compared to 4 feet in most places. I would think the cars are a little wider.
Maybe it was the same overnight sleeper car train I took 35 years ago from Leningrad to Moscow. I'm a *really* heavy sleeper but couldn't get a wink of sleep that night. Had tickets to the world famous Bolshoi Theatre the following night and slept through most of the show.

Well, the toilet still looks a lot better than the one I had on my last night train by ÖBB (Austria). Granted, the cart was replaced last minute by one from Slovakia and ÖBB reimbursed 75% of the ticket price ... but at least your seat was in one piece. Not sure what sound mine would have made, I might not have been brave enough to use it.
@catsapp Just don't generalize and speak for all Russians here. Most Russians have long figured out what's going on and know how things really are in the West. The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics recorded 54,539 train derailments between 1990 and 2021, an average of 1,704 per year. Just think about the figure - 1704 trains a year, Karl!!! Russia could not have dreamed of such a thing in a terrible dream. 1 derailment in Russia is already a state emergency.
Thanks to you and all the others who have posted videos on train travel in Russia, I know to bring plenty of food and prepare for an adventure. A very entertaining video, Nesty! By the way, there is no keeping it a secret that you used the toilet by how much noise it makes. Everyone on the car will know! How tolerant are Russians with people who snore loudly on trains?
Thank u for your comment, my neighbor snorted but I just tried to fall asleep before her 😅 Overall everyone understands what we’re here together, so inconvenience may happen. And if you’re a light sleeper, it’s better to be prepared 🧐
I always take earplugs on the train, because I know that people can snore. In general, people are tolerant of snoring. Once in my compartment, a man snored all night, but it didn't bother me much, since I plugged my ears with earplugs. In the morning, when the man woke up, he asked me if he snored at night and did not interfere with sleep. I smiled, said that he was really snoring, but everything is OK. Then he exclaimed, "Oh, you should have pushed me and I would have shut up!". That was so sweet of him, lol.
Very interesting really! What a good experience, also someday you gotta take the transiberian and show us. Anyways, keep that accent!!! Disclaimer: Im not Russian/Slav, it's only my name.
This is luxury compared to the U.S. Army Caboose in Frankfurt (21st replacement unit} Germany. We had no light, no toilet, no food, no water just air to breathe.
Your Platzkart train is so much better than the best trains here. They got rid of the sleeping facilities years ago so people try and sleep in seats like on a plane. There is no hot water (what a good idea). Many years ago they had good restaurant cars on the trains but now it’s very basic….pizza, sandwiches, pasta….and also not cheap.. …..your country has made a sensible railway service …….

Haha! British railway carriage at 13.04. I think it is actually a 1950s sleeping car and not a dining car, and a miniature model. It would be nice if Nesty could have had a look at the more expensive seats at the other end of the train beyond the dining car, but I expect she would have risked another stern lecture from that middle aged woman about going into an area where she is not allowed.
Hm my longest trainjourney was from Zürich to Zinnowitz, the german part of Usedom, about 1000 km, it was very interessting. After watching this video, i want to go to another long journey by train!

Nesty, you don’t have to be political to be entertaining. If I want political content, I’ll log onto a social platform. In politics, you must take a stand, which is a no-win proposition. Why didn’t you have your cameraman (your partner) with you on the train? I hope he’s safe… I liked your “Slavic” bride Vlog, and laughed my ass off. Keep making great content, my favorite Agent…Nesty 🫶 Todd
'Platzkart' is a nice German word. I have just realised that the Russian language uses a lot of German words, especially in the technical field.
@catsapp On the technical field Germans and Russians can work very well together, it just does not work on a political level.
In Russian Empire we had a large ethnic German population, btw I have some German roots too.

Yer trains are better than UK trains ours are dangerous loads migrants on ours
KABEEER + GOD----ALMIGHTY 🙏🙏
@catsapp and you are right, it is.
@@lolitavine9616 I think he should have said it in the evening and not in the morning.😆
Great channel as usually, yeah we try transsibérian, Russian is huge, 👍🏿
Анастасия, было бы интересно послушать как вы выучили английский язык. С уважением! 🙏🥰
Спасибо большое за коммент! ❤ Если кратко - нужна правильная мотивация и много англ сериалов 😂

I’m so happy u turn on the notification for my channel, thank u so much!!🥰
really funny trip
Very enjoyable video. To me, using the Russian transport as a foreigner will be easier if you can manage some Russian. ;-)
very beautiful work, we have the Gain railway in Australia, 5 5-stair
Your Platzkart train is so much better than the best trains here. They got rid of the sleeping facilities years ago so people try and sleep in seats like on a plane. There is no hot water (what a good idea). Many years ago they had good restaurant cars on the trains but now it’s very basic….pizza, sandwiches, pasta….and also not cheap..
…..your country has made a sensible railway service …….
This type of accommodation is 2 nd class in INDIAN AC TRAINS
Thanks!
Thank u so much for you support!🥰
For anyone, who thinks, that this is terrible, this is one of the newer carriages, so this is not even that bad)
Ужасно в Индии на крыше.
Hm my longest trainjourney was from Zürich to Zinnowitz, the german part of Usedom, about 1000 km, it was very interessting. After watching this video, i want to go to another long journey by train!
You write the best content on RUclips. As the father of 2 adult daughters older than you, I have to say: You’re my guilty pleasure (for entertainment purposes of course).
Nesty, you don’t have to be political to be entertaining. If I want political content, I’ll log onto a social platform. In politics, you must take a stand, which is a no-win proposition.
Why didn’t you have your cameraman (your partner) with you on the train? I hope he’s safe…
I liked your “Slavic” bride Vlog, and laughed my ass off. Keep making great content, my favorite Agent…Nesty 🫶

Haha, I saw your leg in sweatpants, at the end and I thought it was your hairy leg at first. I laughed.
