I love watching genuine high level yugioh in a format like this where skill is super prevalent and 1 deck isn’t just an instant win. This is the yugioh I love to see and great players being the best at what they do is great in any game
Insane tournament from Joshua, more than deserved win for the 4th time now. But lets also not forget that except for the time situation in the last duel (where he basically didn't really had a real win con) Anthony also played really well and I can definitely see him being in more YCS finals in the future and maybe even winning one.
Bystial Runick is scary man, everyone is sleeping on Runick right now so no one has the side deck prepared for it, and the Bystials are so freakishly grindy, such a great meta call from Joshua.
I hope konami finally take away the runick engine and some bystials. Those cards if used correctly can be insane. And people thought runck engine couldn't be good in a ht meta like this... fools!
Maybe Josh came up with it separately but the deck won a big regional in UK some weeks ago and also was played during last national season. But it was definitely a sleeper pick and Josh shows that he's the best Runick player in the world

That’s the problem with Yugioh players, thinking there is some kind of “standard procedure” Josh did great because of his ability to think outside of the box. Proving that a good player can top with any deck. In other words, we need more people like Josh
I feel like Anthony did alittle to much game 3. He over extended and didn’t need to and got punished. He was also playing way fast when he didn’t need to. His opponent is on runick bystial vs a fire deck. Should have just done the standard line set 4 under 5 summons without putting darks and lights. He might have still lost but josh would have had to use no runick spells in main phase which he definitely drew the hand to do it.

Sometimes vomiting your whole hand on the board isn't the best thing to do. Even in this scenario he didn't play around nibiru, summoning air lifter does so much and he could of gotten set 4 before the nib hit and even if they wanted to do more they could of used diabellstar to continue making a board and they would of also been able to at the very least rescue back a monster on josh's turn to get all his backrow stuff back online.
I was thinking the same should have stuck to exactly what rescue ace does best... stop and prevent a board being made against you then swing, but I'm sure he will look back and realise he should have ended on 3 race monsters and a full back row!

I thought the Final game was played without a time limit? Or is that only for Worlds? If the top two are in the Final match playing for the champion spot of the event for YCS or Worlds it doesn't make any sense to me they set a time limit on the final game to determine the best player. It makes more sense to me that to determine THE BEST overall player, they should be left to play it down to the last Life Point or Card or Surrender, not to a technicality of a time limit. The time limit makes sense for the rest of the event to reach the top spots due to scheduling, but the final match for the championship I would think shouldn't need or have one.

And if someone plays a deck that is able to FTK BOTH times then either the opposing player is very unlucky (which luck is part of "how yugioh works") and/or they aren't playing very good handtraps or hitting the deck at the best choke points. OR clearly if a deck is so broken that it can FTK so easily like 90%+ of the time then Konami is not doing their job right with designing and/or banning certain cards.

Josh bringing this deck from MD akes me wonder what would happen if grass is at three in tcg since people used to cook Ishizu cards into branded and necroface FTKs because the Ishizu cards came before Tear laments, proving that the Ishizu cards are retarded even without tearlaments
Josh chained Druiswurm to Nib, so Druiswurm gets summoned and tributed for Nib. This triggers Druiswurm on resolution which wipes out the token. They just skipped a step.

nibiru kept heavy combo deck in check, its fair card its punish someone for over-extending, I love this type of grind game more than just setup full board one turn while not letting opponent to play yugioh

No one at my local had any side card or main decked tech for spell/traps. I was winning with runick sitting on Messenger of Peace and nothing else.

Runick is a cancer not fun deck. Banish cards from opponent deck while destroy and negate its field is unhealthy for the game.

Josh chained Druiswurm to Nib, so Druiswurm gets summoned and tributed for Nib. This triggers Druiswurm on resolution which wipes out the token. They just skipped a step.

Nibiru should never be on the list, it is an indicator of format health. If people are maining it something else needs to go.
