Stunning Nearly 200 year old Abandoned Winslow Plantation Down South in Georgia

- This place was built in the early 1800’s as a successful cotton, sweet potatoes and timber plantation. The outset of the civil war would bring soldiers marching right nearby in Sherman’s March to Sea. Somehow the house was saved and spared destruction during the war. After the civil war the house would remain empty for decades until a couple bought the house in the early 1900’s. After giving the house a restoration it would be lived in until the couples passing in the 1960’s. Afterwards it was used as a hunting lodge for a couple decades until once again in the early 2000’s a restoration was begun but this time the workers reported tools going missing and hearing strange sounds/ doors opening while working. Ultimately they ended up refusing too go back and work on the place. House did have a strange vibe. Big Thanks to the neighbor John who stopped by and gave me some history on the house! Thanks for watching! Like and leave a comment if you enjoyed! I appreciate it!

Place seemed remarkably solid and sturdy for its age
I agree! The house isn’t the biggest but it could make a great home still! Thank you for watching!! :)
I was thinking the exact same thing. It’s a shame people were too frightened to keep renovating it.
That would make me a little nervous walking around thinking I might hear something and get scared 😳 lol
It's probably closer to the 100 year old mark than the 200 year old one, this guy is very click-baity
@@brettvogel8418 he's not at all click-baity. I have watched his videos for years & he is very respectful everywhere he explores & is a natural. He has enough followers on here to try click baiting for views. He's honest & down to earth. I love how he explores. I see so many urban explorers faking paranormal activity in abandoned homes just for views. Kappy is skeptical when it comes to the paranormal. Making a mistake on how old a house may be is understandable, but he does look into the history of homes.
Houses back when these two were built had so much character and beautifully built. Kappy, I love watching all of your videos. You have so much appreciation for these old homes.
That’s very kind of you to say!! Couldn’t show these awesome old places without you guys watching so I can’t thank you enough! :)
That’s when people took pride in craftsmanship. Beautiful 👍🏻
Today, besides showing some historical architectural gems, Kappy decides to include a paranormal investigation and a safari. I wish vandals had not destroyed so much of the architectural elements of the second house.
Thank you haha! It was an interesting story heard from the neighbors! Could’ve been a tall tale but did seem to line up with the house being half finished! Thank you for watching!! :)
That first house looks like it was a cozy place once. Love the old tree out front. The second house is so airy for hot, Georgia days. I wish architects would take at least some ideas from these grand homes, instead of same old cookie cutter, cheaply built houses 3 feet apart that we have today. After woodlands are bulldozed out. Thanks, Kappy-hi, Ruby!
Couldn’t agree more with you!! Nothing beats the old houses! Thank you so much for the kind words and watching!! :)
I absolutely love the houses and land in Georgia! The first one should be restored, so gorgeous.
They tried! Gave a lil info from the neighbors in description! Thank you for watching!! :)
'Stunning', Perfectly said.. Bet both houses were elegant back in the day. Just sad to see them now, abandoned..
Really is! Only wish I had a Time Machine to have seen them when they were lived in decades ago! Thanks for watching! :)
I’ve been watching these videos for years. There’s so much to like about them. For one thing, I’ve always been fascinated by abandoned places. I also learn a lot about the features in the different houses. Kappy, you and Ruby are great! You’re very genuine and respectful, plus I like your kindness toward the animals you encounter. Wonderful stuff! Thank you!
Perhaps the house was protesting the awful decor imposed on it.
That was exactly what I was thinking, I'm glad I saw your comment first.
Lol!😅 Thank you very much for watching!! :)
😂😂
I've seen far worse decor. The kind of graffiti that vandals with little or very low intelligence spray painted in some abandoned houses is despicable.
I agree, different kind of desecration.
I wish there were men who would go in these places and fix them up for the next family or people. These are worth saving. You can't even get the supplies to build like this now. They are no longer in the stores. Can someone please save these gems of the past?
The big rooms in there ,so many unique qualities about it ,the greatest thing about old houses, they are unique
Right! Like the cool lil details on the mantle or unique staircase design! Love it! Thank you for watching! :)
What a shame. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone’s gonna buy it. I willing to bet that painted waynes coating was probably a beautiful wood at one time. The two bedrooms were weird considering it’s a good size house. Thanks for going in even after the neighbor gave you the lowdown on it. 😄
Very cool haunted mansion! The construction is amazing. Those timbers, dowels and square nails are telling of the time period it was built. You won't find timbers like that anymore.
Great explore Kappy and thanks again for inviting us to your adventures 🤠👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Right! I was shocked the attic beams had wooden dowels interlocking them! So unique! Very old fashioned construction! Thanks very much for watching and the kind words!! :)
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 I'll see you in the next adventure 🤠👍🏻
Ist house is in really good shape. So beautiful and very sturdy. I take it there wasn't a basement. 2nd house looked like it was lopsided in the middle. Both houses are nice and beautiful. Thanks Kappy for another great explore. Spooky.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the enclosed, winding staircase in first house!
Not sure if they're servant's stairs, just plain access or what in the South. In the East, they're called tightwinders, and were used by servants, but also as a fire escape. 😊
@@janewasson4845 Interesting! I just love enclosed, winding stairs. I wonder what Freud would have to say about that. Lol
A paranoid, repressed personality, who has escapism problems? 😅
@@janewasson4845 lol!
Thanks for showing these interesting old houses. I'm an american history buff and these places tell a story.
A friend and I stumbled upon this place back in 1968 in our travels in Georgia. There was a wonderful old lady that lived there, she showed us around, at that time the place was well taken care of and was so wonderful and full of old stuff. Sad to see it is such a state of disrepair.😮💨
Good Morning. That first house had a quality, solid roof on it. The house shows no water damage or signs of leaks at all. Impressive. Hollow core doors and pink paint are 2 of my least favorite home improvement ideas, however. Love the porches on the second house. It's hard to see the house with all the overgrown vegetation, though. Thanks, Kappy
Agreed! Those metal roofs last so long! The pink paint was definitely an interesting choice lol!! Thank you for the kind words and watching!! :)
Im glad they put a metal roof on the first house they need to save that one..loved the vid thanks..:)
At least someone is getting use of the house. 😂 I love it !
The first house looks like it could be savable and move in ready pretty quick. It was built solidly and the roof hasn't failed. The 2nd one is in bad shape . Thanks for sharing and you have a great day
That’s still a very picturesque house. I hope someone can acquire that for restoration. Thanks Kappy!
GORGEOUS!!! Love this one Kappy! Love the porches on the second home. You always find the BEST places Kappy. Stay safe! Just sitting here watching and thinking how I would fix them up. lol! The potential would be unlimited if they were in sellable condition. ❤
Rightt! Those porches on the second one sold me right away! Would be awesome saved and fixed up! Thank you very much for the kind words and watches!! :)
Yeah, I would stop working on that first house, too. Thanks!
Given enough money both of these houses could be saved IMO. They are big, beautiful and airy.
Very true! That porch on the second house would be heavenly fixed up! Thank you for watching!! :)
Another great video Mr Kappy! Loved both houses! That 1st one isn't really that far gone. If I was a rehab person, that one would be the one I'd buy (after winning the lottery that is) and fix up for myself! The second hadn't changed as much as I thought from the still shots you showed. I had fun watching Mr Kappy! Thanks for taking me along!
Would make an awesome project to restore! Agreed! Yeah I was surprised how little had changed just way more overgrown now! Thank you very much for the kind words and watching!! :)
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 you are more than welcome young man!
We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen in our 2 storey brick home built in the mid 1800s. Don't get mad at me Kappy! Grandpa redid the kitchen in the 1970s and made the cupboards out of plywood and counter tops out of linoleum. Remodeling with white distressed cabinets to look old. We painted the walls the same blue as your video shows. Glad I picked out colors done in that era
It was well built…lots of possibilities. The first thing I would do is get rid of the Pepto Bismal pink. I like the upstairs bedroom most. The outside looks nice. Thank you Kappy.
Haha yeah that was an interesting color choice! Thank you very much for watching!! :)
I’d sage it and move on in 😂 beautiful place❤
That first house looked like it began as a simple 2 over 2, with additions later. Honestly, for the description of being a successful plantation, it origins seemed small; it lacked the grandiose attitude characteristic of most plantation houses we're aware of today, although it was handsomely detailed throughout. Maybe that was why it 'survived' Sherman's March to the Sea? It certainly was a handsome lil' structure. Too bad its been negatively branded. It so deserves to be preserved but then it is not alone in that distinction. I'd love to know the other outbuildings it must have had, with the history that it boasts. The second house was a lovely memory of good times in the past. Thanks for the tour, Kappy.
Absolutely gorgeous. You can really find the best!
I really appreciate that! Thank you for watching!! :)
The ending beautiful landscape footage always has me missing living in the east coastal USA, especially Maryland. 😢 I love watching your channel every Saturday morning. Thanks kappy.
Maryland is a beautiful state! Grew up right outside Baltimore! Thank you very much for watching!! :)
😎😎 Thanks Kappy !!
Thank you for watching!! :)
Urban Exploring with kappy thanks for sharing with this video it was a really good video and God Bless and thanks again.
Thank you very much for watching!! :)
Wow she’s a beauty! Another awesome video Kappy! ❤️🤘👍
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you very much for watching! :)
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 your welcome! ❤️🤘👍
I wish I had the money to refurbish this house. I love the layout and the property is beautiful. Would have to get rid of those funky colors though. Thanks Kappy.
Love those wide hallways! Thanks for two great explores. ❤
Me too! That upstairs hallway on the second house was awesome leading to the porch! Thanks for watching! :)
Such a beautiful house. I hope someone saves it.
Wow. The dowels in the attic were so cool to see. Thanks again Kappy!
Right! Really helped tell the age of the house! Definitely not a common construction design nowadays!! Thank you for watching!! :)
I love it. Ghost there cant be any worse than the ghost here
I am so lucky that I don't believe in ghosts. The first house seemed fine, beautiful, and ready to be restored. The second one is beautiful also, but very creepy, with all of the brush around and inside. Is that the one that was deserted by the workers? I love it, I could see myself camping out in that one... And here I am at 0230 in the morning working at a hotel by myself with the tide coming up, breaking against the walls, and I'm not scared at all!! Thank you for the video!!
Those pegs in the attic timbers were made to last. What a beautiful old home. Minus the horrid pink and blue someone chose!
I wish they could've finished it. It's still structurally sound; a big shame to let it rot.
Those attic dowels are awesome! Ingenious!
Right! Love finding old architecture left! Definitely not a new design! Thanks for watching!! :)
Love these videos of OUR history.......
Kool looing place my friend....👍
My upmost respect to you.
Especially, after a horror story was told by the neighbor, you still BOLDLY GO FORWARD.
😅
Another awesome video Kappy 👍
Thank you very much for watching!! :)
Imagine how lovely it may have been before all of the wainscoting was painted! 🥲
So much respect to Kappy for all his efforts to find us beautiful historic homes! Woww! Thank you Sir Kappy! ✊🏻🥰
I really appreciate that!! Glad you enjoy! Thank you very much for watching!! :)
This house looks so much bigger on the outside..
I would love to do this in my retirement years....
WOWWWWW KAPPPY U DID IT AGAIN AWESOME OLD PLANTATION HOUSES LOVE EM thanks alot for the uploads man digggin them peace love rock and rolll to south my soul shake down street keep on keep in on
Golly that first house had certainly been messed with but was also odd to begin with-the upstairs only having 2 bedrooms!
Loved the second house, open and airy with nice big windows. Both houses seem to still be standing enough to complete restorations.
Thank you Kappy!
Wow.... that's when people actually spent time visiting on the porch! Just beautiful. The second house must've had a giant mouse🤣🤣. Thank you for including the sounds....
That first house had good bones! Looks like a nice roof too! It's a shame they stopped the renovation! The 2nd house was nice too! Both should be renovated!
The wall thickness is a giveaway as to the property’s age. Lovely to see this home. I believe you’re correct on the age and the structural elements. It would be one huge project, but certainly worth the effort. Thank you
The first house, I mean. I'd love to be able to restore it as I live there. Seriously I need a project!
I bet it was a beautiful house back in the day like how the rooms are love the fire places
Awsome love your two for ones
Thank you for watching!! :)
Good evening, Kappy, my friend! Finally, we've got a really, truly haunted house and not just one that scared us all half silly! I'll never forget those strangely eerie footsteps upstairs in that house or the door that slowly closed by itself! So spooky!
I gotta say, though, that neighbor's account may have just been of a thief trying to run the workers off or maybe the neighbor was just trying to run you off, Kappy!
That is lovely woodwork! I wonder if it was done by a craftsman or by an enslaved person. It's lovely, no matter who did the work. It is quite unusual, not at all like woodwork we have seen in other houses of this period.
The rooms seem to be rather small for a "plantation home." Must not have been a very large planter's operation.
I'm agree my friend's comment below! That pepto bismol pink and neon blue paint job is positively criminal and would raise any proud homeowner/builder from the dead to protest! It's so strange, the foyer and the first room's paint scheme was so understated and elegant and then somebody went all Woodstock in the second room! Weird!
At least it would seem that they ran out of that awful paint and settled on a better shade for this room. The lovely pale blue is both elegant and restful for what appears to be the house's dining room.
The kitchen would have been bright and pretty, no doubt. This back hallway is an odd place for a washer and dryer hookup, but it works, I guess! The bath is certainly handy to all the downstairs, but rather straightforward in its design. The sloping roof of the back hallway confirms that it was once a porch.
Up those creepy, narrow stairs. More small rooms and an attic from someone's nightmares. No bathroom up here, so somebody had to use a chamber pot or risk dying on those stairs!
I can see how this house seems to be creepy. It does have an odd air about it, suspenseful, sort of.
On to House Number Two. A link to the first video would be very much appreciated. I just couldn't find the first one, though I went six years back through your YT Archives. I would like to compare the two videos. Thanks!
Kappy, dear, please do not shine your bright lights at sleeping bats, especially in the winter! Wintering bats use stored fat to stay warm and, if they are awakened and flutter about, they use up precious fat and could even harm themselves in their panic. If a wintering bat runs out of fat because he is made to fly, he will starve before spring arrives, bringing food. Please, when you find a bat, dim your lights and leave the area quietly, as even the sound of your voice could frighten him and cause him to take flight. The bat may be cute, but don't be the reason it starves to death!
Thanks for these two explores! The comparison between them is startling, with the first being so modest and the second so expansive and open. They were both beautiful and very interesting, though.
Happy trails to you and safe explorations, too! I'm looking foreward to some Tennessee explorations in the coming months.
Until we meet again, love to you from Tennessee and to Miss Ruby. Please give her my best wishes.
Found the old video! Here’s the link! Thank you very much for watching!! ruclips.net/video/zrxzya-EQL4/видео.htmlsi=J762HsO4cXYKNVzw
Passed time old thing's gone. ✨✨😲😮
House #2: Thanks for giving us an up-close clear view of the 2nd floor porch wood trim. Very pretty details. 😊
Glad you enjoyed! I’m glad nature hadn’t knocked it all out yet! Could glimpse how it used to be! Thanks for watching!! :)
Thank you Kappy!!!
I wish I was a zillionaire. I’d bring the houses back to life.
Me too! Thank you very much for watching! :)
Ty Kappy 4 the vid. What great house. Still looks good from the outside. B safe out there.
Glad you enjoyed! Much appreciated for watching!! :)
Hey Kappy. Both places Absolutely fabulous Built to withstand just about anything. Thanks again.
Wow. Sooo many years have passed thru that house.. hauntingly beautiful..
Very true! Thank you for watching! :)
Thought the first house was really nice !!! Could be saved …. Thanks Kappy !!!!
In the first house the "closets" in that first room seem to be an addition during "remodeling". Looks like another addition to the second room next to the ffireplace. Bet it was fun trying to get furniture up that staircase. It's probably still standing because it has a metal roof. Only one fireplace upstairs. Kind of a strange layout.
Was the stairs in the first place steep? They looked it. I would love that house; Ghosts and all. Thanks Kappy.
I really liked seeing the roof in the attic. I don't think I've ever seen a roof ridge put together that way. That's a fantastic old place. It is much more majestic from the outside than inside. I think that pink and blue room must have been the nursery.
Love the Staircase❤
The front doors on the second house are so adorable.😍😢
Agreed! So unique! Thank you for watching!! :)
I haven't seen the house that you explored with the staircase so straight up it was tricky to climb 😅. That one was really weird in a funny way 😂.
Wow the size of the planks on the wall at 7:31 ...
Very cool. And the dowels in the roof! Omg very old and sturdy
I thought the exploration along with the beautiful autumn colors was really cool.
Re construction usually brings out paranormal activity
Loved both houses, sad to see they have sat empty
Kappy, Thanks for thi one. I really loved it. I would have liked to see the sides and back. What beautiful pictures you leave after showing a home.❤ Very tranquil.
.
I showed the back side of the first house after I finished interior! Thank you for watching!! :)
418 I wish you showed the whole tub. Kappy, your funny, you went in a circle trying to find the staircase. First room upstairs is a really good size.
Thank you for another great video i love these old houses 🏘️ keep them coming 😊
Will do! Thank you very much for watching! :)
More fading history. Thanks Kappy!
Thank you very much for watching! :)
Ich mag deine Videos sehr lange und ich freue mich jedesmal wenn ein neues von dir zu sehen ist es sind wunderschöne alte Häuser und es ist schade das sie so vergammeln weiter so 😊
Homes w.charm and beautifully made.
Amazing house ...
The chimney detail on the exterior of the house, it’s a bit strange.
How both chimneys stick out past the side end walls.
I thought that was pretty normal
nice one
lead paint removal alone would be 5 figures
Not necessarilly.
They are both beautiful .I,d would have loved to see them new.
The square porch post on the second home are always so interesting. I love seeing them on a house especially if they're narrower at the bottom and large at the top with an interesting cap. Nice detail to include in your video!
Thank you! Always love those unique old details in old houses!! Much appreciated for watching!! :)
A actual haunted house 💯💯
Two really pretty old homes!❤
Hey Kappy! Yea, I love the creepy vibe and history. Still a great house. Excellent find and explore. Thanks. Stay safe! ✌️
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you for the kind words and watching!! :)
A modest house 🏡 but beautiful could still be restored think of that place with a lot of the wood stained I hope that place is saved
Awsome metal roof I can't wait
Your 🚙🚙🚙🚙 must have endless amount of miles on it!
Sure does lol! Thank you for watching!! :)
❤
Oh, the first one gave me the heebie jeebies, too (I actually wrote those exact words before you said them, haha)! Not a good feeling to it at all, not a happy house, it's been a looooong time since it was.
The second one was beautiful in its day. That's the one I would restore. It's amazing how much more overgrown it is in just a few years. The little bat was too cute. As always, many thanks Kappy!
Completely agreed that first one just had a bad feeling inside! Hard to explain! Loved the porches on the second one as well! Would be awesome saved! Thank you for the kind words and watching!! :)
Love it❤
