I've never eaten or cooked fresh figs, they always look so delicious, going to have to try them. Growing up as a child in the 70s my only knowledge of figs was 'syrup of figs' and 'concentrated figs in chocolate', both at my grandparents place as a laxative 😮 Now I know better, so thank you for this video 🤩
👍🏻 Excellent! This is popular in South Africa 🇿🇦 too .. where we had large Greek communities when i was growing up. They shared a lot of their culture with us, but i had no idea of the Greek connection with this delight. 💡 Please can you investigate how to make candied fruit? It used to be readily available here, then it became very expensive, and now it's almost impossible to find! It was also known as "glaced fruit" .. thick orange slices (including the rind), whole figs, whole pears, apricots, pineapple slices, and the white part of watermelon rind, chunks of peeled ginger .. all boiled (i think), preserved, and dried in sugar somehow. Candied orange is especially good chopped up in brownies or cakes, or half-dipped in dark chocolate and served with coffee. The other fruit is very versatile too, from simply enjoying with some cheese and nuts, or chopped into swiss muesli, or used with imagination in countless other recipes. I would love to learn the secret of preserving fruit in this way, before it mysteriously disappears.
@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato Voila! That must be the fastest answer ever 👍🏻 .. Thank you, i don't know how i could've missed it in my searching. It does look a little different to what I'm used to .. but perhaps it's just a matter of using icing sugar in the final step. I shall try the method on some oranges that are waiting, and report back. Thanks again 👍🏻
If we don't have a homemade wine what wine would you recommend we use? Edit: Also I didn't understand why did you need to throw away the fig water and why should the figs not be fully ripe? I have some frozen figs from last year i could use but they are fully ripe 🙃
Ok! I'm getting fresh figs soon! They seem to be a different species from yours. They go straight from green to purple, no pink. How will I know when to pick them? The main thing is they must still be hard?@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato
Spec-taco-lo! Serious question. I have a white fig tree and ready to be harvested. Any ideas what should I do with them? I was thinking of drying them, anything else? Grazzie Mille!

Any white wine will be good 👍🏼
Because it’s full of fig latex
The one defrosted will be very soft 😬

@StarKnightZ yes 👍🏼 they should be hard
Why do you cook the figs two times?
To remove the fig latex
