      @@Angarsk100 15 minutes probably not but 30-45 minutes, sure. If you've just got carry ons and checked in online to have you boarding pass the only thing you need to do is clear security. Supposing you have TSA pre you're looking at maybe 5-10 minutes through security depending on the airport. Last month I was at SFO and it took maybe 3 minutes to clear. One thing he doesn't realize though are the lounges many have access to that make showing up early worth while with their free food, showers, business centre, etc. I get this all the time I'm flying in Economy as a United elite traveller.

    • @Angarsk100
      @Angarsk100 5 лет назад +15

      @@j2simpso I know... but you're not accounting for "unforseen events" Even a flat tire on the way to the airport can make you miss your flight. I'm really comfortable with a 1 to 2 hr. wait, to make sure I don't loose my flight, that of course is closely related to what impact would have on you to loose the flight. As for the stores, I almost never buy anything, they're so overpriced I also prepare to not need anything (and sometimes delay passing through security while I grab a nice coffee). And sometimes, I treat myself to a little snack/drink If I know I can afford it, that's the way capitalism works.

      Recently my airport built a shiny new international terminal, well when the employees got a tour they were very vocal about the lack of water fountains and other flaws designed to make people buy stuff rather than human needs. The media got wind of the displeasure and the airport was forced to retrofit water fountains, and add seating nearer to the gates instead of only in the shopping areas. It cost them a lot of money because they were greedy and thinking they could force people to wait at the shopping areas with no water.

    And many airports won’t even broadcast your assigned gate until 5 minutes before boarding to force passengers to stay within the retail area of the airport. Even when they already have a gate assigned for the flight. This doesn’t happen a lot in the US but is pretty notable in airports like London.

    It’s really not that hard to avoid shopping at airports. You just need to pack the consumer state of mind. The only thing I ever get is the free water at Starbucks. Airports likewise malls are basically an opportunity to get pimped buying lackluster products at inflated prices. You don’t really need that $12 burger before your flight. You would do your gut a favor as well as your wallet.

    I don't recall having made any big purchases at airports, but I suppose a fairly big part of that is that I was younger then and didn't have the kind of money they were asking for anyway.
    Besides, whiskey, beauty stuff and jewelry don't do it for me. Technology is more interesting, but I prefer to research before buying.

    There have only been two times I made a purchase in an airport. The first one, my phone charger stopped working and I desperately needed one so I could get directions after landing. The second time, I had HOURS before my flight and my girlfriend at the time wanted to use that time to call me and ask why I hadn't proposed yet, so I bought a pair of earbuds so that I could talk hands free while anxiously pacing around the airport.
