You're still my favorite airplane channel.
My issue with pushing potential danger away from the aeroplane is that is moves the danger into a larger crowd of people. The queue before security. Can't get past security? No problem. Blow yourself up in the line instead.
Flying is very bad for the environment so it's good if we discourage as many as possible from it.

Ones religious preference is not a security factor. In Israel it is socially impolite to ask outright "what is your religion".
In Israel we have large minorities of Arab Christians, Arab Muslim, Druze, Bedouin Muslim. Many serve in the Israeli armed forces, army, police etc...so we don't really care if a tourist is Muslim or not.
I usually get 1, when I travel alone I might get 2. Once I was very mad from line from the questioning and was bit angry at the worker there and I got 2.

security theater
Its because they are working a useless dead end job with no real power, so they take it out on everyone else.
Same, when I was visiting the Washington Monument I got arrested because I tried to bring 1kg of cocaine and 1kg of explosives up!
In all seriousness, my sisters and mother always get held up at airport security because they have food, my baby sisters bottle/sippy cup, or coins, while my dad and I are super quick and are at the gate before their even through the detectors
That's because they are trying to protect the liberty bell. Doing that for a harmonica doesn't make sense, but in 2001 someone actually did strike the bell with hammer so it's not unprecedented exactly.
Every time I go thru airports they check my shit bc I carry a harmonica and they ask me to blow in it to prove its not an assault rifle or something lol
Last time I went to Israel, I was surrounded by security a mere 6 seconds after getting off the plane. Granted, I was walking quick because I really wanted a cigarette, but I was mad impressed by the response time.

Israel's security is so good because they can use profiling. Profiling allows you to focus your security resources on the people you really need to keep an eye on. In the US granny's get strip searched because the TSA has to treat everybody equally.
I'm Israeli and I can confirm.
Most security forces/services training puts emphasize on suspicious behavior which can be a person walking quickly among a crowd.
This is all mostly based on experience, "written in blood" if you will.
When I was at the central bus station in Be'er Sheva, a guy really needed to take a piss and he was literally running and trying to cut the line, and he was blocked by all of the security guards at the entrance hall..m
Its called a "safety ratchet" for a reason. It only goes one direction. No one looks good advocating for less safe things. So once a "safety" thing has been implemented, it is somewhat permanent. The only exception is when you get an opportunity to start over. "We're going to implement a brand new set of rules" is when they can choose to leave things out and hopefully safety advocates don't catch on.
I literally leave my razor blades in my hand luggage every time I fly. They got noticed and taken out exactly one time. I also never dispose of the lighter I keep in my jacket. Got taken away zero times.

The BER airport in Berlin is actually the most secure airport on the entire world. Not one single weapon, 1 illegal product or one gram of any drug managed it to pass the controls, neither they ever had any incidents with any passengers.

Having flown through TLV this now all makes a lot more sense. I just checked my passport sticker. I got a #5 and had heaps of interview questions. Solo male traveler in my early 20s certainly didn’t help that situation...
just a note, ICAO isn't a regulating body 0:59. It doesn't have a position of authority over its member countries. It sets standards and recommended practices (SARPs) in order to foster safe international aviation. Each member country has its own regulating body which imposes its own aviation regulations, these regulations are based on ICAO's SARPs and can differ a bit to adapt to each country's needs. just noting that there is a difference between regulating and setting standards :)

I live in Israel. I wanted to meet some friends in Germany.
I'm male.
I traveled alone
I'm 19
And I'm arab.
They didn't even give me the interview and immediately slapped on a 6.
I just found it funny that I checked every single requirement to be higher risk.
Although, I do still find it slightly odd. I think the main reason for this high security was because of my Arab family name. I have light brown hair and European like light skin. I also speak Hebrew fluently without even a hint of a different accent.
Fun fact, on the way back to Israel I spoke to the interviewer about gaming and mainly overwatch. It was a nice conversation but I still got high security risk... I felt betrayed.
And lastly, there is a security clearance system in Israel to work certain jobs. So I think giving the airport that kind of info to affect direct family should cut down time for many people. Just a speculation idk if its actually a good idea.
You aren't surprised, just confirming the facts in this video, right?
Don't feel bad, I'm kinda a nerdy asian dude and I still get patted town... probably cause I usually travel alone as well.

I’m an ordinary Caucasian man and got the third degree by some TSA dingbat upon arrival in Newark while three men who could have been Osama bin Laden’s quadruplet brothers breezed through passport control.
Another time when arriving back in Europe, I was pulled out for secondary customs inspection and passport control in my own country while two Arab looking women on one way tickets, no money and unable to speak any western language were allowed to go while my bags were turned inside out.
Listen man, I live in Israel too and I'm deeply against racism, but you can't say it's a bad system since pretty much all of terrorist attacks are done by Male traveling alone Arab people. I hate the fact you were judged by your race but the security of the citizens is much more important than some people feeling uncomfortable. The system was proved effective and if the cost of saving life is a little racism than its unfortunately a good system

My biggest fear airport security being stopped because I look suspicious. Thanks to life events , my feet sweat so much that leaves a footprint of sweat, my reaction times , and I do things like pick my fingernails and so on. Even though I would never do anything remotely bad, I always have to try not to look suspicious going in the airport. I never been pat down but I hope that never changes.
Yeah, some people's fears become a self fulfilling prophecy. My mother will spend the entire security line fretting, out loud no less, about if security has to search her bags because she has needles in them (for medicine). And then to her complete shock (but no one else's) she gets picked for a "random" secondary inspection every time. Like you just spent an hour talking about how you're concerned that security might search your bags, *of course* they're gonna search your bags.
I'll trade you for the no patdowns though, TSA seems to think my chest is dangerous.
I suspect the most impactful decisions we made were also the cheapest. Things like "keep the cockpit door closed" and "don't just let them land you in cuba 'cause that's not the only thing they might want" are virtually free, started working before we'd managed to ground all the planes in the air, and shift the risk-reward drastically.

I like the pressure chamber idea, seems much safer and I assume wouldn't be too difficult to implement
Suddenly a bomb explodes in the middle of security with houndreds standing in que. would need to be heavily fortified and in a different room
It only would prevent pressure triggers and anything else that the change in pressure would cause to create a problem like a leaky can of hairspray. They need so many different checks because if an airline relied on just one people would just design bombs that didn't rely on pressure.
@@fredrickht8922 what no, they'd need a gap at most, and since it'd be in batches of people there'd be no reason not to have a gap as it wouldn't affect wait times.

Lot's of people get super anxious before walking through Airport Security, myself included, and they are probably doing nothing wrong, but they'll get deemed high risk because they are nervous. You can't factor anxiety into the interview, because a terrorist may very well say they have Anxiety and act anxious in order to pass through.
Gotta say, the pressure chamber is an ingenious idea. The "warning signal to put the plane into a dive"? Damn. That's sharp.
Honestly, they could probably use a different fuse (perhaps a time fuse for a few hours for a 4-hour flight) or something of that sort. And also, it might be meal time during that dive, so it might be beneficial to the security or the attacker.
They could set the fuse to trigger the second time the pressure drops, accounting for the one in the checkpoint.

Years ago I stumbled across a video clip from an unknown source, titled “passport control,” which seemed to be from an Israeli comedy show something like SNL in the US. Apparently, Israelis don’t take ALL of their security procedures seriously, and I got a chuckle from it.
In the skit, a young woman in uniform was screening passengers, and a clean cut young man presented his passport. The agent looked at him and the passport, shook her head, and said “Lo” (the only Hebrew words I know which were used in the skit are “lo” and “ken”). The man motioned for her to wait, pulled out a kafiyeh (Arab headdress) and put it on; she still said “lo.” He pulled a false beard out of his bag and put it on; still “lo.” Then he held up an AK-47 and posed with it, making a “victory” sign with his free hand. Finally, with the man looking exactly like a Palestinian fighter, she smiled, nodded, said “Ken,” then stamped and returned his passport!
If any Israeli citizens recognize the skit and know the names of the actors, the name of the show, or the year it aired on Israeli TV, please reply here.
Oh, and congratulations to your newest Hollywood Star, Gal Gadot!

Racial profiling could be justified for Israel because if it's location and history and the current climate in that region, but in the west it would be an absolute disgrace and a way for the majority to over reach and fuck over a minority because they look 'suspicious'. I never hear white people or Christians come out and say racially profile white male students because they're a higher risk to commit a school shooting. Most hate groups in America consist of white male extremely conservative and extremely religious (Christianity) people. The most notorious hate group, the KKK, feature a cross on their clothing. Maybe the Middle East and all of Africa should start profiling those people in their airports. You over look the terrorism and dangerous groups in your country and only focus on the muslim minority. Shameful....
In munich airport, there‘s a seperate hall for flights to israel with police everywhere etc
I couple days ago when I was going through security at LAX airport, there was literally a blackout and all the machines stopped working for a good 10 minutes and we had to just wait there. I’ve probably flown through LAX about 20 times now and I can tell the infrastructure there is slowly deteriorating, and very dramatically after covid
RUclips is awesome. I got recommended this random video about airport security and I even watched it full.
Is that a Saudi flag in your avatar?
Premislao89 yes. If you want to visit saudi arabia. Join our country, with this beautiful viking flag!
I actually am going to Swe soon :)
Daniel Alt I can’t, I would love to travel and see the beautiful landscapes and buildings in Dubai, but I’m Israeli so I’m not allowed to :(
Daniel Alt your country is awesome except that most of your people are embarrassed of their viking roots and culture, and became spineless folk that doesn't defend their home from Muslim invasion
My father once went through these checkpoints in Israel and he said that the officers were very strange. They would ask the same questions several times, with a little variation each time and see if he would answer them differently. Super smart!
You don’t have to remember what you said if you don’t lie
Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome exactly the point
All you have to do is know the questions and repeat your answers. They don't even know if your lying you just remain calm and they don't know shit. Even trained professionals can't actually catch you in a lie... Statistics don't lie.
Terrorists are usually not very smart or professional people. They're single-use after all, and usually desperate people with no skill and nothing to lose. And what you're talking about (staying calm and act absolutely as if you KNEW what you were saying was true) is just an exceptional level of lying.
Israeli security constantly change their questions. I live in Israel. I am still not used to the checks I go through in Ben Gurion Airport...
I remember when a tsa worker accidentally got amicar on his gloves, read the bottle and immediately assumed it was melting his gloves and panicked. Amicar is a mouth medication that is drank.
One time I got stopped by tsa when they found ammo in my bag. Funny thing is I've had that ammo in there for so long, I forgot about it. Worst part is I had traveled through 7 airports, two of them being Atlanta and Houston. And yet the little airport in Kansas City caught it.
You sure you brought that bag and not a similar looking shooting bag?
Watching this video in the Ben gurion airport
Captain Fordo They’ll probably hand you another barcode with a 6 after watching 😂
Which number did you get?
Same :D
@@user-xb9yv2ci4c Probably a 9
Traxon Your profile picture is perfect.
I accidently brought firecrackers in my bag on a International flight there and back without it being noticed.
That's evidence of a success not a failure of the security protocols .
They danger is from the actor in possession of the methodology, not just the methodology. Israel focuses on the person. You were not a threat.... you got thru. Success.
Weathership Tango Delta Very true. I brought through a large bag of liquids, and they could not have cared less
@@delta6335 nope firecrakers are banned no matter what
@@generalgrievous2202 yes but he's saying that if someone intentionally were to bring firecrackers the system would have likely caught them but because this was a genuine mistake and he was unaware they let him through because he's not a security risk

I was given extra questioning luckily not in a sepret room, as I was travelling with cousins and had a different last name. I agree that it was stressful and nerve racking but they do it for our safety and I honestly feel safest in Israeli airports in comparison to British or American ones
Was at the Frankfort airport a couple weeks ago and I remember seeing an el al plane that was parked at the gate but had been fully fenced in, guards on all four sides, two armored trucks and a larger armored car with a mounted gun. Now it makes sense

@@henanigans205 let's say although I am not an Israeli citizen I have been there a few times and they probably view me as safe. the family relationships the interviewers dig into are more complicated and weird than anyone could have come up with.
@@hanasikova8634 Výborně, naše operace může pokračovat podle plánu. They have no idea :))
Easy. No carry-ons, no checked bags, everyone arrives at the airport and then tapes their boarding pass to their forehead, strips naked, gets handcuffed, belly chained, blindfolded, and finally herded onto their plane by armed guards. If I take this plan to market, would all of you be happy to pay a premium for a ticket on my maximum security airline?
what does belly chained mean?
It's a chain around the waist used along with handcuffs to restrict movement. You might have seen it on prisoners in court rooms.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belly_chain_(restraint)
Thank you, I learned something new today.
My naked, belly-chained body is ready
Only if we can go direct to Guantanamo. No layovers for me.
I was in Israel And i flew to And from ovda airport, its impressive how well they checked everyone, but it took such a small amount of time. (IT took US 30min from arriving to the airport to get to our plane!!!!)
Wow, 3 hours at airport security is honestly insane to me. Here in NZ we don't even have security for most flights, which is awesome because you can rock up 30 minutes before your flight leaves and be perfectly on time.
Holy cow, never thought of TSA as a second hand death casualty culprit =0
me neither! not only that, but the added drivers add traffic which brings the chances of death higher as well. never thought reducing airport security could make the roads safer!
Yea dude. Flying is a safe way to travel, but TSA scares people off, they will get on a car and have a higher risk of dying.
1.5x playback everything - thank me later I'm old enough to remember tracking decades before 9/11. The same idiots I saw before 9/11 sleeping on a stool while 'guarding' a locked door are the people folded into the TSA. They have unions and are nearly impossible to fire, especially if they are a minority. The governemt usually sucks at what they do. Go back to private security and have real accountability. Employ security professionals. Hell, send them to Israel to be trained and weeded out if that is what it takes. Most of all, realize that political correctness is not worth a single death.
I certainly know increased airport security got very annoying. So time consuming.
I used to bring small pocket knives onto aircraft. Those are barely a threat, but nowadays you wouldn't be allowed to.
Yet in the mid 90's nobody batted an eyelid even going through security with them.
Anyway, all things have consequences many of which aren't immediately obvious.
It's counter-intuitive, but essentially correct; Increased airport security may indeed be increasing the death rate overall.
Makes aircraft (marginally) safer, but it makes travel in general less safe.
Go figure.
Airport security might not be able to detect dangerous items, but it may discourage people from bringing them. The fear of getting caught and sent to jail might make people think twice about what they pack. It might also force terrorists to think of different ways to sneak past security, slowing down their attacks.
3:02 is the screening point in Juneau International Airport in Juneau Alaska. I just went through there.
That looks like every small airport security station in the United States, how could you possibly know that?
I wonder where those pilots in 8:09 are flying. There's 2 suns in that montage lmao

I flew out of Ben Gurion several times (since I used to live there). That interview he refers to is true. Even overseas, the degree of the interview I received was crazy. And I'm a Hebrew speaker! (But I completely understand why the security is this tight and agree - it's necessary) I checked the barcodes on my passport, I got some 1s and some 2s. It makes sense that I didn't always get 1. I always get nervous in airports.
That thing about arriving 3 hours early? Absolutely true. Even now that I no longer live in Israel, I can't help but arrive at airports 3 hours early. And I keep on getting shocked by how quickly I get to check in (because I'm used to Israeli security standards, not Australian security).
You lived in the airport? That sounds inconvenient
How would an autistic young male do? Symptoms of autism are similar to those of suspicious behavior.
U forgot to mention that Israelis love the duty free shops so that’s another reason for Israelis arriving early
Well Aussie airports are easy. They don't check ID when boarding domestic flights. And small town domestic airports have REMOVED security screening.
@@the11382 yes but not really, if they know about the autism (and they should know) they will automaticlly suspect much less

After 9/11, small knives were no longer allowed on planes and cockpit doors were secured. Also, the procedure during a hijacking was to wait and see what the hijackers wanted because it was assumed they intended to eventually land the plane safely.
The TSA was not needed to fix any of these weaknesses.
4:49 R.I.P. anyone who has anxiety or is just awkward in general
Controversial stance, to get rid of airport security to save lives. But I like how you went about arguing for it. You didn’t get me fully convinced on it yet, I’m still very skeptical, but you got me thinking. I like it.
Tristan Möller That’s a really open minded and smart outlook you have to be receptive to his opinion, even if you disagree with it. I respect that.
I work security it is a waste of money ask away I'd be glad to explain why.
how many thing have you mis confiscated and end up returning it again?
Explain please. I would like to read first-hand experience
humans operating without someone looking over them is always a bad idea. Most people will be fine but there will be a few that will abuse the system and thats why security is there, to weed them out.

When me and my family wanted to fly home from Fuerteventura, Spain, we had to wait a long time at check in. Everybody just placed their bags in line instead of standing there themselves (it was early in the morning). When check in began, most people got back to their bags to stand in line and eventually check in. There was one piece of luggage left alone but we saw a family with a baby running of to the bathroom because their little one had a blow out. The luggage belonged to them, obviously. Some of the other passengers did not notice that and told the worker at the check in desk. Within seconds (like maybe 10-15) fully armed guards arrived and tried to evacuate the area. Luckily the family came back very shortly after and was asked to join security. They were on the same plane afterwards so everything was fine but it was kinda surprising to me how fast airport security was!
I was pleasantly surprised by my english exam when I had to write an essay on airport security. You prepared me better by uploading this video than any 'traditional' form of preparation. I got a 9.2 out of 10 btw

A friend of mine once traveled to the US and accidentally forgot to take a bag of weed out of his pocket. At the airport, he just kept it in his *closed* hand, and even when being pat down they didn't check it or find it. The worst thing is, he still had it when flying back from the US, and did the exact same thing, and didn't get caught. It's all a joke and a show instead of anything effective

The statistic of the lack of successful terrorist acts from the USA after September 2001 is interesting but has anyone looked at the rate of similar acts PRIOR to that date? When comparing equal spans of time it might be revealing how little things have actually changed. The last terrorist act I can recall before that date in the USA was back in the early 1980s.
On a side note, I find it a bit funny that the TSA touts the fact that no such acts have occurred yet is unable to prove that they are the cause of this lack of events.
Good thoughtful video as always.
I am a Hong Kong citizen traveled to Tel Aviv on Cathay Pacific flight last year
No extra security on Hong Kong side
On arrival, only my indonesian relative got extra questions asked on immigration
While departing Tel Aviv on Easyjet to London, there will be different staffs asking question nearly every minute if you continue walking
They are basically at every corner until you reach the gate
But there is no intense question asked may be because we are family travelers and Asian
I was once there and I got interviewed. When they started asking personal questions, they asked like ''Do you have siblings?'' etc. and then they asked me ''What is your favorite book?'' and I answered ''Run, boy, run by Uri Orlev''.

Bender, Oh I don't know, launch a chemical attack at the behest of oil companies? Oh wait, that's the Western militaries. Same difference, right?
Zeldagigafan how did the west launch a chemical attack
Simply put, they have all the reason to do so, and then pin it on Assad. The US wants Assad gone so they can put in their oil line, ISIS wants Assad gone because he's a secular leader.
Planning an attack on a place with any security at all is, you know, actual work. Stealing a car or truck and hitting people is way easier. It can happen pretty much anywhere (near roads). It's (sadly) not only something nearly anyone can do, it's also at lesser risk of discovery (before it happens) and in the long run just as - if not more - effective.
