    Great video. I've used 3 washing machine glass bowls from the doors to make port holes in my shed. They look awsome, everyone asks where I bought them from, and no one can guess what they were originally.

    Would be good slightly changed and used as waterwheel based generator instead maybe?

      A coneshaped impeller based on the logarithmic curve would make it a perfect water generator. You can find blueprint for this online if you have a 3d-printer

    oh, and brilliant as usual. I wonder if that design would work as a waterwheel? I mean being a washing machine, all the bits are water Proof (bar the motor.) That might work in a small stream for more consistent generation than wind, if one were near a decent source with a fair flow. just a thought with the motor being a bit stiff to turn.

  • @peterwilson5528
    @peterwilson5528 Год назад +1

    That is the same washing machine that I took to pieces. It only had one program working from time to time. Also, the door lock developed some problem. I plan to try this with the bits. Maybe cover each blade with some PVC riveted on to make it capture a bit more wind

    Looks like it's going to take a tornado to turn it ,but maybe if you stack a couple of drums together it may work better.

    Great idea but that bearing looks (and sounds) to be bad. Probably why it was thrown out in the first place. I'm a washer repair tech. Sometimes you can pop the cover out of the bearing to expose the little ball bearings and grease them, then pop the cover back in. Just a suggestion.

    Hi, how about trying to put your washing machine turbine in a 90 degree configuration with the round hole facing the wind and adding a box type funnel in front and facing the wind, where the funnel will create some type of compressed air and make your washing machine fan being used 360 degrees to produce centrifugal forces???... love all your ideas. Will the direct drive version of this, generate electricity, without needing to be re-winded? Also, can I attach larger plastic pieces to each fin to allow it to catch more wind, therefore, turning easier with less wind?

    those fridges- I'm wondering if one could turn a fridge into a stirling engine? like, the refrigeration cycle is so efficient at moving heat around, just by virtue of how they work, it seems like you could either integrate, or greatly improve the efficiency of a stirling engine and get useful work out of it beyond just refrigeration. Pondering it hard. I've got a janky AC unit, and an old mini fridge, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Seems like a couple ways to do it- one being to segregate the hot and cold sides of the coil on the hot and cold pistons of the engine, well insulated (so basically just extracting mechanical work from the efficiency of a heat pump- which is greater than that of burned fuel or resistive heating by a Lot as I currently understand it)
    OR use the refrigerant concept as the working fluid of the engine, and exploiting heat pump high and low pressure geometry to more efficiently move the heat in the system. I dunno. That's been burning up my brain for a week, so if the idea struck you as worth exploring a vid on such a thing would be interesting. seems like it might make a "more bang for your buck generator".
    In any case, I'd be interested to see what you could do with an old fridge, if you were of a mind to do so. (I love your "found and broken" model. I use the same for making jewelry, out of found and broken bits so it's a notion that's dear to me)

    Please would you tell me Robert how you managed to get the drum free of the plastic surround. And how did you get the flywheel off too?
    I have three of those drums and haven't worked out an easy way to remove the flywheel and plastic. I'm hoping to then turn them into fire pits for gardens. Thanx for any suggestions. I'm at a standstill. Oh, I have no angle grinder at the moment either. 🤔🤣

    Why not just connect the motor directly into the tub leaving out the fan belt and flywheel it would freely spin creating more power and add another motor to the system double the output.

    This is amazing Robert, very good that you did this with no added parts but do you think you could do the same put with minimal tool usage? I don't have an angle grinder or a hack saw but was thinking maybe this could be done with a regular saw and a chizzle made from a nail that I hit with a rock for shaping fans?
