Soldier Boy is actually both an anti hero and an anti villain.
He's an anti HERO when he's working with The Boys (He's against Homelander, the villain of the story, but he's ruthless and an A-Hole. Traits of a villain.)
And he's an anti VILLAIN when he becomes an enemy of The Boys (he's against the heroes of the story, but he has a sense of honor and duty. Traits of a hero.)
I'd say Silver Lining Agent. Found loopholes between antagonist and protagonist values.

@@Kiloridge Its my understanding that an anti hero is a hero with villainous traits (a hero who is ruthless, violent, selfish, murderous, etc. For example Punisher, Red Hood, Ghost Rider, Rorschach, Vegeta, Alucard, Guts etc).
While an anti villain is a villain with heroic traits (a villain who has honorable traits, noble tendencies, well meaning intentions, etc. For example Magneto, Mr Freeze, Hero Killer Stain, Beerus, Light Yagami, Vergil, MCU Thanos, etc)

He’s so charismatic and tragic as a figure that it’s hard not to actually root for him
Soldier boy is by no means, a good person. But he is better than Homelander and number of so called "heroes". Even Butcher pissed me off with the sudden change of heart.

This character is one of the several reasons the show blows the source material outta the water
I love the idea of an Anti-Villain. A heroic villain that sees the evil in the heroes. Only the villain because he is against the protagonists but, ironically has more honor and a trusted word. He may be an A-hole but, that is cause he is expressing himself truly, in the moment. In terms of English "Anti-villain", being against or opposing villains, sounds more "Anti-hero" than "Anti-hero". The only character that holds loyalty and trustworthiness over just general politeness or phony social culture. SB even shows disdain for pretending to be the movie star they force him to be, clearly he prefers to take initiative and Vought wanted a more tame celebrity rather than an actual combat supe. He definitely has a "I hate everyone unless they prove something to me personally" type of attitude. Not the best, not the nicest but "it gets the job done"

I really like the way they went with soldier boy in the show vs the comics. He is just a racist supervillain in the comics but in the show, it is so much deeper. He is not a villain nor is he a hero. He is just a flawed soldier seeking revenge.

As far as I am concerned him and stormfront could have been the main threat after homelander due to their wide history to explore and I even hold out that hope it could happen, for all we know stormfronts death was forged by vought and she will come back with regenerated bodyparts or a cyborg, I'm fine with either option.

Soldier boy is the only true hero in this series. Hes a man of his word, gets the job done and is not evil. The main character has no moral or they just trying to be in the grayzone. SB doesnt give a shit about sudden feelings or other crap reasons to not honor a promise. Not gonna watch this series until he reapear.

Soldier Boy is a villain through and through. All he ever did is lie and kill people. And even worse is that unlike Homelander, Soldier Boy grew up normal and became a Supe later in life, meaning that he genuinely believes that he is the embodiment of "good" and anything he does is right.

Don't know why anybody's admiring or sympathizing with him. He was a bully and murderous psycho. His old team didn't hate him for no reason. He terrorized the people in his life, and has little regard for human life. His "I fought for this country" bit is supposed to undermine his credibility with the audience, when they show you what a trainwreck the super's involvement with the military actually was, and how he didn't give the slightest shit if their reckless behavior got fellow soldiers killed or jeopardized missions. Yeah, he's complex and has some mildly sympathetic elements. The Boys does a good job humanizing every character, and showing how nobody is who they are for no reason. He believes in his word, can be reasoned with, and isn't sadistic or genocidal or derangedly narcissistic. As compared to Homelander, who is deeply deranged and unstable, believes his innate superiority puts morality beneath him, and is a severe danger to the whole world. Soldier Boy's just a plain asshole on a personal level. But by god... what an asshole. And while Homelander had a super fucked up "literally raised as a science experiment" childhood, Soldier Boy just had a mostly old-fashioned normal type of fucked up childhood. The type millions who didn't grow up to be murderous assholes could relate to on some level.
These kind of people have zero media literacy, that's all.

They are not suck a piece of piece like the steven ever was. When soldier boy was beating up Black noir they were trying to stop him although they were afraid of him and didnt attack. When Soldier boy did the same to gunpowder crimson countess took care of him(in the same scene)
