It is scary how well this actually fits Soldier Boy as a character. He spent his whole life pining for his fathers love and attention. That never happened, so he filled that void with the affection he received from the public as the worlds greatest superhero. But then as soon as the world was done with him, he got tossed aside like a piece of trash. He tried coming back, and everyone just told him to fuck off. Now he's stuck with nobody left on his side. Forgotten.

Every season has had Homelander love someone, and then that person dying. First he loved Stillwell, but then she betrayed him so he killed her. Then he loved Stormfront, but she got crippled and then suicided. Now he's got a father to love, so the father has to go. The show really has a formula that's been building towards Homelander getting hardened to the fact that he will never be loved, and accepts that he should settle for being feared. Once he gets to that point, he will be pure horror.
