Hey Joel it’s me again. I cannot thank you enough for posting this content. In my previous comments posted on your other videos I haven’t yet told you about my other dog Roofus. Great job!!! Love the stalking dogs in their yard!! While you're looking for dogs that might fire Hank up. You crack me up, while at the same time EDUCATING me.
You keep trying to show us the effect of dogs not being trained except you keep showing us the perfect effect of your training!!! Too funny. I see and believe!!! I walk my dachshund/schnauzer with holding the blind yorkie in the left arm. I got to walk the super barky, bouncing to the max of her leash 4 foot in the air and yelling, yelling schnauzer with my right hand. I afraid I'm gonna drop the yorkie. I think I got to walk them seperate. It's too funny cause I cannot do the my leg/ her butt check cause she is 15 inches high and I can't get my knee down there. The whole thing is hilarious.
Follow these techniques. You’ll have the greatest dogs ever. Your friends will be jealous. Every single one of my coworkers are jealous of my dogs obedience
My adopted 2 year old is psycho crazy leash reactive to dogs on leash but not to dogs behind fences. ? He rears up on his hind legs and pays no attention to any correction. It’s crazy. He no longer pulls with your leash correction technique. So thank you for that. 🙏
Thank you for the video 🙏🏻 You should come to Bali to practice with the leash reactive dog. The 99% of the dogs are free roaming here. This is the real challenge.
I have a highly reactive Whippet who I’ve spent c.£2k+ on trainers without a massive amount of improvement. I am now binge watching your channel and am confident I can replicate what you do. I wish I’d found you earlier but whatever, I’ve found you now and boy, am I grateful for that! Happy to make a cash donation if you have a link?
Our dog is pretty good walking next to us by now. Would have been a lot easier the first months knowing this though. Why don't the so called dog trainers teach this? Too bad I haven't discovered you earlier 😅 we still got a few things we can work on, almost happy I have a reason to watch and learn now, haha! Thanks a lot!
Great video! Problem I have is that I am walking two Frenchies and a Boxer/mastiff cross.....lol. When they decide they want to pull, it is all I can do to keep them in check. Am trying to train them one at a time in the hopes that when they are together they remember what they learned. BoxMas is an 8 month old, so he is a work in progress, though I think he minds better than the Frenchies who are older.
I’ve been scrolling your videos today and this is my dog exactly. Super reactive to dogs and vehicles. This is amazing to watch and I’m going to start tomorrow. Are you using a regular flat collar with him and with your other dogs?
He uses flat collars, but if you are going to do strong corrections like this instead of a quick pop, I'd recommend a wide (1.5 inch for 50lb & up dog) collar. I'd recommend a tactical collar because they are super strong (less likely to come off), have a quick realease mechanism, and distribute the pressure of the correction over a larger portion of their neck.
I olso struggled because i do not have the hole street like you do, my area is very crowded even turning or walking or stop she can manage to push me in the fence, but still works all of your suggestions and advice, today k walked really close with 2 dog in front and back she was the best she even sot down next to them, amazing I use gentle leader leash, it work miracle and with your suggestions,i do not care what people says, thank you so much!! I have German shepherd!
Putting her on a heel is NOT working. I thought it was but that is just with dogs she knows. Each new dog she explodes again. I put a gentle leader on her and she almost bit me. Like I was going to allow her to get killed. She got really wild. It was quite alarming. Puzzled about this.
I honestly love your videos but ngl I’m always kind of nervous when I correct my puppy in public as some people dont see this type of training like something good 😂
How do you let a dog do dog stuff (like sniffing, piss/poop) while on leash? I mean when you don't really need it to do heel but still want to avoid pooling on a long leash (5-7m)?
I love your videos! I can’t thank you enough! I will apply this right away. Now, when I walk my dog, I let him smell everything he wants, as long as he’s not pulling on leash, but that means he goes from side to side and does his thing. He loves to smell and I feel like it satisfies him and his curiosity as well as tire him out more. I would be sad to take that away. What do you suggest?
I’m so thrilled I have found you!! I have a four month old Doberman and have started implementing this which has allowed me to walk up and down our sidewalk. I have a question however, although he does seem to respond to the correction when he leaves me, he never looks at me. Like ever. I try treats, I try popping on the collar, I try turning his head towards me… Nothing works. So I’m not really sure when to praise him?
I have been working with my Dane with your methods. We are making good progress. My issue is with the loose leash he always wants to walk ahead of me, not necessarily pulling. I would prefer him to walk closer to my hip area. How would I get him to walk at my pace and let me lead?
I am assuming this technique can be used on a 6 month old puppy. I have been trying it and so far so good. Sometimes I'm alittle late but Dante is totally getting the idea. Thank you
I always refer to your your training it just makes sense. Please can you give advice about puppy's first walk.. I have a 12 week old mastiff mix she is learning very quickly I've done the basics in the house and garden but out of the gate is really trying
Really like your videos! They have been super helpful so far with my Rhodesian Ridgeback pup. (who is now 11 months old) Quick question: I get walking my dog on the same side. Is there anything to moving your dog to the other side when there is a dog on the same side as your dog. Like at 8:42 of this video. As in putting your body in between your dog and the fenced dog? Thanks very much.
When my dog sees another dog, she stops and stares. Then she immediately walks towards the dog. Usually, when there’s a big dog she acts reactively. Although, yesterday she acted the same way with two smaller dogs.
I’ve been working with my BC x Husky for 2 weeks now and this is fantastic, loose leash and listening to me. How do you deal with reactivity to birds/ rabbits? She’s fine with dogs and people and cars etc, but super sensitive to birds and rabbits and wildlife. I just can’t keep her attention and she looses all the training instantly.
Nice vídeo although with my rescue dog I'm trying to teach her to walk on a lose leash and She has crazy leash reactivity when She sees people dogs chickens She just pulls jumps forward falls in her back and continues no matter What
Just remember, the walk starts in your living room. You’ve got to get control there and the walk doesn’t proceed unless the dogs proven it can listen in the house the at the door, the. Right outside the house
@@BDTraining yeah thanks alot! I'm everyday practising shes stuborn 😅 Like, She knows how to sit but She just to excited and ignores me ..gonna keep working with her and do My best and continue to see your videos and learn
Hey again just to let you a message saying thanks because shes improving already ! I'm using a gentle leader she doesnt like it but shes getting used to it and the walks already more smooth!
Ive a 4 months old gsd, he lunges at dogs, although it seems pretty bad i assume he just wants to play or he is scared. Been trying this but without many results, any suggestions? This is his only flaw and the dogs that he has actually met he has been great so far.
I'm guessing you're having this problem while walking your dog? If not, the following advice is irrelevant (not that you should listen anyway. I'm not a professional). I'm not an expert or anything, but I imagine you need to work on keeping the dog with you and "checking in" on a regular basis *before* you expose them to the triggering stimulus. And as soon as the dog *sees* the stimulus you need to be testing him, not waiting for him to lunge. So like if the other dog is 50 feet away and your dog notices them, you should be testing to make sure he's paying attention to you and following you rather than doing his own thing. Don't wait until the other dog gets close. Your dog should be with you at 50 feet. At 40 feet. At 30 feet. At 20 feet. And finally at 10 feet. If you don't test him, you might've lost him at 50 feet and never noticed, and then when he finally lunges at 10 feet you'll wonder why he misbehaved all of the sudden. Well he probably started misbehaving long before the lunge, but you didn't test him. I can only really offer general advice and, again, I am not a professional trainer, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
@@discipleoferis549 thank you very much, have been trying with harder “pops” on the leash with a little improvement, but will definitely try this. Tvm for taking the time to answer 👍
@@discipleoferis549 I agree completely, you worded it perfect to! I'm not a trainer either but a very educated individual about to pursue a career as a dog trainer so I am knowledgeable enough. You were very right! Another good source is Victoria Stilwell the certified dog trainer, she is associated with the channel "It's me or the dog" and "E how pets" etc. And her methods are very effective. Hope I helped!
I would recommend the similar method, I would save this for a slightly older dog but puppy do the same but instead of pulling turn around and just walk the other way same premise but less abrasive to the young pupper, also if you were curious who I got it from Victoria Stilwell the pro trainer she is awesome and successful with this method she is associated with the channel " it's me or the dog" and "E how pets". Hope I helped!
I like this technique. Do you have a video on how exactly you do this correction?. I’m worried about the placement of the collar and in which direction to pull. I’d hate to cause injury
Hi Joel, greetings from Kuala Lumpur in covid lockdown! I have been following you for some weeks. My young Doberman cross (he’s a rescue from the SPCA) is reactive to other dogs - mostly to other dogs either on leads or from behind their gates. I’ve hired a trainer to help me but his methods are harsh - using a choke collar - which I really detest. I’m trying to use your methods with a flat collar - I’ve seem much improvement with Gucci but he’s still reactive to other dogs. Do I keep persevering? I take him out when there is minimal chance of seeing other dogs and now he walks past houses where there are confronting dogs - unless they are up and barking. Any advise?
PS - would it be possible to arrange a zoom / Skype meeting? Happy to discuss your charges and see if we can work together. Please let me know. Best, David
I feel they need as much desensitization as anything else use the tricks in the video but while another dog is in shot if unless the other dog is barking then find another, preferably a calm older dog without barking or growling issues and start far away then slowly as they are doing good bring them closer. Hope I helped! Try to find a friend with a dog or find friends specifically because they have behaved dogs etc.
My dog is now 7... He's a rescue that I got 2 christmas's ago... He never listens on a leash apart from waiting at a road to cross... He was attacked 2x now since I've gotten him and no dog can come near him... I'm having problems with walking him now due to head and neck problems... He pulls so much ...I need some guidence cause his recall isn't the best either... help
Yes I agree with the other person but also these type of corrections can not only hurt a sensitive dog but scare the living F out of em front clip/no pull harness but use Victoria Stilwell's method of turning around and walking the other way if they pull etc. It works wonders and I've seen it first hand she's associated with the channel " it's me or the dog" and she goes to people homes to help. Hope I helped!
Very interesting I've been trying to work with my Alaskan Malamute with reactivity to dogs he was attacked by two when he was younger he's four years old now he has overcome a lot of different things where I live now there are dogs literally everywhere on my street and all of them are freaking psychos and the owners think it's hilarious and they're all on flexi leashes but if they're not on those they're running free there is a leash law here but it's very relaxed apparently and I have to watch my dogs out in the backyard it is fenced chain link fence because people will even bring their dog right up to my fence to antagonize my dog which is frustrating cuz I do like being able to go out on different walks with him but it's nerve-wracking to do so love to go camping with him and he's great at camping but when dogs come near I can usually tell when he wants to play but then I can tell when he's like back off buddy
A dog I'm trying to help just ignores corrections, what can I do please? It's a german shepherd who was bit as a pup and now it aggressive to other dogs. I'm trying but nothings working for me. I've tried the walking up and down and trying to get her to follow me but she's always in her own mind even if I give her a small tap, if she's focused she just will not follow or pay attention to me. It's not my dog, it's my sisters but she's scared of taking her out now incase something happens. I've got the dog to stop pulling, or at least lowered how often she tries to pull but she just will not tolerate people or dogs.
Hi, what length was the leash you used in this video ? Awesome video btw really enjoy that is very spontaneous- that’s really how it is in the real world for dogs. Thanks!
@@tonystark9576 sounds good! I have a 4ft leash and is so hard to train in it cause is just too short. Got a retractable but I definitely need a simple longer leash in case it malfunctions. Thank you!
Just a quick question. I was reading online about yanking the lead when the dog is looking at something that it is fearfull off. And how that can make the dog more worried about that object as they are being pulled away from it. What do i do? is this wrong, I have an anxious border collie and im not sure what i should do. Do i do the corrections like he shows or not. Thanks so much.
No, don't do the corrections like he does - this trainer is a joke. Not once was the dog leash reactive - watch more of his videos, you'll notice this trend of "this dog is aggressive or resource guarding" and then he has some excuse as to why it wasn't shown in the video. Also, the 'trainer' never once told the dog to heel so how is the dog supposed to know to stay by his side? Does the dog even know heel? Also the so called trainer did was use adverse means to scare the dog. Watch the behavior of the dog - did you ever once see the dog being reactive? He didn't even make a sound. For better training please watch Leerburg or Karen Pryor.
@@Cloudyyyy88 if your confused as to what trainer all this BS. Victoria Stilwell she's associated with the channel "it's me or the dog" check it out and see the results in someone's home with their dog 100% impossible to fake that. She uses the method of turning around and walking the other way but she goes way more into depth and I've seen it work magic first hand! So don't take my word for it just check her out and see if you like. Hope I helped!
New subscriber! I’ve a question on this though, is a correction suitable for an anxious dog that sometimes has fear based on leash aggression or are you just adding to the stimulus? To me my dog either looks fearful of bigger dogs and barks or seems to see smaller dogs as pray (ears perk up and starts fixating). I’ve tried to use positive re-enforcement and threshold for fear based triggers and corrections when she looks like she is stalking, would you say that’s the correct method?
Hi I was just wondering where you are located, I have an extremely reactive Husky/heeler mix if you're looking for the worst dog lol. She'd bark at you as well
(sorry for posting this comment everywhere , but I really am curious) But Joel , these are big dogs . I have a 3 month old puppy , who has just started taking walks with me (vaccines n stuff) . I suppose I can't give him this correction right now , right ? Makes me fearful he might end up hating the experience of walks .
Same way you would desensitize your dog to resource guarding against you, Doberman Planet has great videos on it usually involves desensitization of your hand and petting. I can go further in depth if you can't find the source or one that helps. Also a great source is Victoria Stilwell, Hope I helped!
I think your issue with getting dogs that misbehave is you train them from the start so they naturally behave better for you. You correct the wrong behavior from the start.
Do you typically walk on the wrong side of the road for a reason or is it just not that busy in your area? There's someone in my neighborhood that walks on the wrong side with their dogs.
Silly question, but can you do this with a 7 month old? My pup loses her shit with some dogs and others she wants to say hi and play. She’s a boarder collie Terri mix and has laser focus and gets in her crazy brain from way far out if we see someone walking with a dog that she doesn’t care for. Sounds like I have to get ahead of it much sooner with the leaving me. You said you couldn’t control him on the first walk, but this walked was great!
I also like Victoria Stilwell's method which is very similar but it make the dog use their brain to work out how they get what they want. Dog pulls you call or use a command then turn around and bring them the other way and keep doing it until they get calm enough to approach/get close enough to other dog friendly like. The better the dog acts the closer he gets to the other and if they misbehave turn and keep going until they get close enough for a short sniff then back off a foot or so. Not a dog trainer but I will be soon and I am educated in the topic, Hope I helped!

Great content. Straight to the point.
Have to admit, i doubted the advise, but it really works so fine on my rottweiler and bulldog
Great job!!! Love the stalking dogs in their yard!! While you're looking for dogs that
might fire Hank up.
Thank you for the video 🙏🏻
You should come to Bali to practice with the leash reactive dog.
Thank you so much for sharing!! Works very very well!
“Well I’ll tell you why the dog is good…”
This is the best channel ever.
Great video! Problem I have is that I am walking two Frenchies and a Boxer/mastiff cross.....lol. When they decide they want to pull, it is all I can do to keep them in check. Am trying to train them one at a time in the hopes that when they are together they remember what they learned. BoxMas is an 8 month old, so he is a work in progress, though I think he minds better than the Frenchies who are older.
subbed btw
love the way you work
Thanks so much
Thank you so so much! this one is perfect...it will help me when he lunges cause thats when max pulls me off my feet
I have a question what would be your reaction to your dog if another dog comes lunging at your dog
you need to be famous like Milan 👍🏻
I love your videos
Thank you so much.
Great video.
Have my dog she is crazy even with your trainning which by the way there are the best!!thank you
I olso struggled because i do not have the hole street like you do, my area is very crowded even turning or walking or stop she can manage to push me in the fence, but still works all of your suggestions and advice, today k walked really close with 2 dog in front and back she was the best she even sot down next to them, amazing I use gentle leader leash, it work miracle and with your suggestions,i do not care what people says, thank you so much!! I have German shepherd!
"come here liz"
liz almost falls going backwards
excellent concept and practice
i would love to see a video of a dog 1 to 2 years old who hasnt had any on leash training what so ever.
LOL no dogs there, all out cruising in Motor things 😂
Amazing
Awesome mate! Thank You.
Putting her on a heel is NOT working. I thought it was but that is just with dogs she knows. Each new dog she explodes again. I put a gentle leader on her and she almost bit me. Like I was going to allow her to get killed. She got really wild. It was quite alarming. Puzzled about this.
That wasn't a mower thing it was a 4x4 side by side often used by farmers and such to get around easier than their trucks.
I honestly love your videos but ngl I’m always kind of nervous when I correct my puppy in public as some people dont see this type of training like something good 😂
Me too
How do you let a dog do dog stuff (like sniffing, piss/poop) while on leash? I mean when you don't really need it to do heel but still want to avoid pooling on a long leash (5-7m)?
If you want a crazy leash reactive dog you can borrow mine! He's like the Tasmanian devil!
I'm everyday practising shes stuborn 😅
Like, She knows how to sit but She just to excited and ignores me ..gonna keep working with her and do My best and continue to see your videos and learn
Can you do that kind of correction with a 6-month-old puppy? 35-lb puppy.
Would it hurt his neck ?
9:00 you can tell how much the dog wants to run after the other dog.
My dog is now 7... He's a rescue that I got 2 christmas's ago... He never listens on a leash apart from waiting at a road to cross... He was attacked 2x now since I've gotten him and no dog can come near him... I'm having problems with walking him now due to head and neck problems... He pulls so much ...I need some guidence cause his recall isn't the best either... help
To keep pressure off the neck you could likely use a front clip harness instead
@@zelina6595 ok cool thank you... I'll try that
Yes I agree with the other person but also these type of corrections can not only hurt a sensitive dog but scare the living F out of em front clip/no pull harness but use Victoria Stilwell's method of turning around and walking the other way if they pull etc.
Love your videos!
Super helpful video. Did you have just a flat collar on this dog?
Yes I think so
Good boy.
Terrific!!
Great video again man
Hi, what length was the leash you used in this video ? Awesome video btw really enjoy that is very spontaneous- that’s really how it is in the real world for dogs. Thanks!
Probably 6-10 ft leash you'll definitely want it over 5 but under 10, hope I helped!
@@tonystark9576 sounds good! I have a 4ft leash and is so hard to train in it cause is just too short. Got a retractable but I definitely need a simple longer leash in case it malfunctions. Thank you!
@@AngHyzz97 no problem, love helping people!
Do as he says, don’t punish looking - punish when the dog decides to leave you
@@frostytf2 ok thankss
@@dogbehavior okayyy
@@Cloudyyyy88 if your confused as to what trainer all this BS. Victoria Stilwell she's associated with the channel "it's me or the dog" check it out and see the results in someone's home with their dog 100% impossible to fake that. She uses the method of turning around and walking the other way but she goes way more into depth and I've seen it work magic first hand! So don't take my word for it just check her out and see if you like. Hope I helped!
Do you use a slip lead for this, or just a regular lead and collar?
New subscriber! I’ve a question on this though, is a correction suitable for an anxious dog that sometimes has fear based on leash aggression or are you just adding to the stimulus? To me my dog either looks fearful of bigger dogs and barks or seems to see smaller dogs as pray (ears perk up and starts fixating). I’ve tried to use positive re-enforcement and threshold for fear based triggers and corrections when she looks like she is stalking, would you say that’s the correct method?
My mind is blown!
My dog pulls the second we get out of the door and never stops
Hi I was just wondering where you are located, I have an extremely reactive Husky/heeler mix if you're looking for the worst dog lol. She'd bark at you as well
Great video Joel! How do you feel about harnesses?
I like front clip harnesses. The other harnesses are essentially pulling devices. Makes it too comfortable to pull.
@@BDTraining thanks.
(sorry for posting this comment everywhere , but I really am curious)
But Joel , these are big dogs . I have a 3 month old puppy , who has just started taking walks with me (vaccines n stuff) . I suppose I can't give him this correction right now , right ? Makes me fearful he might end up hating the experience of walks .
I’m going to try this on my Rottweiler
I’ve been using a halti
He’s been good but man he goes crazy when sees other dogs
Can you please make a video about dog to dog resource guarding?
Same way you would desensitize your dog to resource guarding against you, Doberman Planet has great videos on it usually involves desensitization of your hand and petting. I can go further in depth if you can't find the source or one that helps. Also a great source is Victoria Stilwell, Hope I helped!
@@tonystark9576 thank you!
