the warm tones often look oversaturated which is an awesome effect for some pieces but the cool tones are much more pleasing to the eye for me and they look well ...cool!
The finished result is amazing! In cinematography you’re supposed to light people with dark complexions with green and purple light so that you can capture all of their features, and I think that the shading in cool tones really captures darker skin in a beautiful way.
I think both could work depending on the person you're drawing. Since some people have a warmer skin tone warm colors are great for them but other people have cooler skin tones. Both is good, but art is art. It's whatever you like to do.
I actually color that way on a digital canvas as well because I want to learn and it's fun. Just out of curiosity - what is your main approach when coloring digital art? :)
Okay so I just wanted to say that I got into an art university recently and my first homework assignment in one of my classes was to choose one of my favorite artist and talk about them. Lo and behold, I chose you. Got a pretty sweet grade too.
@@ssavaart can you please draw the girl with pearl earring on the next music Monday but the pearl earring should be missing cuz of the hole in the disc
Honestly it looks even more like skin when you do use cool tones! However I completely understand why you prefer to use warm tones, the desired colour/tone presents itself almost immediately, where as with cool tones it seemed to take you a lot longer to build the colours up to a realistic point. Both look incredible!!
I love your cool colors! Though your warm color art is far more vibrant, the cool colors feel more "real" in a way! It definitely feels like the page has more "human" in it!
Wow I really like this one with cool colors! I'd love to see you incorporate more cool colors as a challenge for your traditional art! I appreciate the introspective nature of your voice overs.
I’m an autistic artist. I didn’t really grow up drawing, so I often feel pretty insignificant compared to my friends, who are absolutely incredible artists. You changed that. I still often feel kinda bad about my art, but now, I’m still willing to try again despite everything. Thank you so much for being who you are and making me feel like I belong in an artist’s community.
@@justadudewholikestotalk i get your point, but i don't view this entirely as "random". for one, scott is autistic, it could just be someone that likes his work showing some relation to him. for another, they may list it in relation to some of what they describe later on in their message. the feeling of being discouraged by their advancement with art could (to them) have some relation to their autism or how it affects their perception of their art compared to their friends, which may be why they listed it.
I know this is late but thank you for the message in this video. I had a breakdown last night over an art project for school. I want to go to art school after i finish highschool and i thought i wasnt good enough for it, but now that ive calmed down, ive realized that its okay, and im still learning.
You could try drawing someone using a combination of both, using the cooler colors for darker/occlusion shadows and the warmer ones for lighter shadows and blushy areas
I like using the cool colors a lot better actually! People have very unique undertones and it's common (especially in the beauty industry) to make darker skin tones very orange so I think using cooler colors feel a lot more realistic
When I watched the Lizzo video, that was honestly one of my first thoughts! As someone with cooler/olive undertones, I think you did an excellent job of sticking to your style and getting a similar end projuct with a different way of getting there. Love you and your work! ♡
A lot of people tend to make darker skinned people warm toned when we can also be cool and neutral toned. Would love to see you throw in some new art portraying people with blemishes, vitiligo, hyperpigmentation, moles, freckles, female facial hair, and scars.
I think it has to do with brown being a dark shade of orange which is warmer. With that said, when you incorporate cooler contrasts of a bluer variety I do think it often looks stunning!
Bro, that turned out realistic. Never thought someone could draw a realistic portrait with markers. It turned out better than the warm ones imo even if the warmer ones are more artsy haha
Definitely prefer cool colors, it gives a more realistic feeling, and it looks more natural. Something about the warm colors just looks off to me. I am aware warm and cold skin tones exist , but the translation into art can have different outcomes with the media used . I design characters for Roleplay and other projects, so I tend to experiment at color theory. Skin tone deteinines a lot of factors for me.
Heya! You have really inspired me when I was at my lowest and close to giving up on art. This was until I heard you say art is supposed to be fun, and that experimenting is supposed to make you uncomfortable, lately I've been experimenting with my own art! And it's really helped me grow since I was stuck at drawing the same thing over and over.
The cool colours give it a more realistic vibe but the warm colours give it a bright pop of colour and it just comes up to what you prefer and/or what you're trying to achieve.
I really like the cool colors. I think it is much better than the warms as all the layers are more subtle which makes it feel thag much more intricate to me. I know you like the warm tones as they pop more but idk I always like cold better. Whether it is the weather or colors. Cold is my favorite always, guess it is that undying subconscious loyalty or something 🤷🏼♀️ 😂

Yeah I was thinking something very similar.
The warm colours can look a bit jaundiced, imho.

yeah, it does look more realistic. the warm colors have more life in them, though.
