I’m recently getting into crochet, but I paint and draw and a rule of thumb for pricing I was given was to base your price off of an hourly wage. For example, if I set my hourly wages to $15/hr and I can crochet one mini bee in an hour, the price of the bee would be a minimum of $15, then you can add in cost of materials. I used to set a timer for 2 hours for pet portraits and charged $50, with my hourly rate being $20 and $10 for the paint, brushes and mediums and it was a, easy way to figure out prices since I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out.
I have never been successful at selling my crochet. The number of hours involved are too many for me. I am TRYING to go the youtube route and make how to videos. Good that you are recognizing what works for you! ❤
I did the same thing with my iPad! I had the 11 pro and I liked it, but I felt it was too big. Sold it to my mom and bought the Mini. LOVE it. It’s so portable and usable.
Girl you are TRAVELING this year!! go girl! YES FOR THE TRAVEL VLOG! Also if you decide to do the pattern for the bees, I would totally buy it!! You plowed through this order! Thank you for passing on the pop it tip. Will you ever or do you have a video on how you take your pictures of your items?
Aww you’re too sweet!! Thank you soo much :) the mini bee pattern is live on my etsy hehe! And oooh thats a great idea for a future vid, I can deff do that :)
Stopping five minutes in to tell you I feel so bad for you! You're doing the same amount of work for less money 😔 I agree with you, handmade items aren't very wholesale friendly. I love your bee pattern, definitely buying this one❤

I'm in ohio so I think I need to go on a scavenger hunt to find these in person :D Glad you were able to see that wholesale wasn't worth it - your time is super valuable and you can't say yes to everything!
Can we just appreciate how Gemma replies to EVERY comment! I feel like even small RUclipsrs who get 1-2 comments, they still don’t reply, and the fact that she gets hundreds of comments and replies, let’s just appreciate that
Omg I am planing on going to a market this summer! I only have like 20 items so far 😢. I am also crocheting plushies and all your plushies are SO CUTE❤!
I don’t crochet but I do wholesale. I would suggest you raise your pricing even for wholesale if you plan on doing wholesale because trust they are probably charging way more double or triple what you charged them. I make candles and my smallest candles are $5 a candle for 4 oz candles which is less time than your bees. Please charge more.
omg i feel you, i have had people reach out to me for wholesale asking to take 30% of my profit which i just think is far too much, and I totally agree, crochet is not very wholesale friendly because it benefits small businesses that can easily mass produce things (such as stickers, alibaba goods, etc.) but handmade items (especially crochet) are very labour intensive and not great for wholesale. I do wholesale for 1 person (Strawberryboots) and I love the way she does wholesale, she lets me decide how much to sell my items to her for and the price she can sell them at, plus I get to advertise my items at her store as well which is really nice, but i haven't found/had anyone else give me a better offer than what she does. I mostly make larger items and custom items for her (not just small items).
Your joking,I don't know how you get the guts Franko,I sincerely am truly thankful for the content that you bring.Amazing creator and extremely brave or silly one of the two, .Nah I'm saying Franko the brave❤❤
Girl, I am a new subscriber and I love your videos! You mentioned that you loved how the stuffed turtle heads, and what if you use them and make them pearls in a clam!
I am just learning to crochet but I have previously sold cards that I made for Christmas and homemade birthday cards. I definitely found I could not sell the cards at a show as I could not make them cheaply enough to make it worth it. Some of my cards were 5 hours plus so asking 8 dollars seemed reasonable but did not sell well. I feel your pain in this one. Good that you are learning what works for you and what doesn’t. Great video
Maybe you can put your socials or Etsy shop on labels and attach them to the plushies, and it can be like a marketing investment. You could get some new subs and potential repeat customers out of it. The shop owner shouldn't have a problem with labels if she's not trying to pass it off as if she made them, and in the end she's still profiting from your generous discount. ❤
@@crochetbygenna yes!! I second this! definitely do this! I make my own tags at home, i print my logo onto a thicker paper and whole punch it and tie it on each plushie like a tag (i do this at markets as well and I have definitely noticed a difference in follower gain and recognition on my insta) because not everyone takes a card or notices who/where they bought an item from.
24:38 it is funny to me when you’re crocheting and the little arms are dancing/slapping you like I feel like the life is coming into them as I’m going 😂😂
Hi! I personally don’t do any whole sale however I know a little bit, maybe reduce the bigger ones by maybe 30% and the smaller ones by less or some not at all, that way you are still making decent gross profit and are still getting the orders.
Great video enjoyed watching and seeing work on all your animals. I can’t wait to see your office once it’s set up. Love the chubby Dino . Have a wonderful weekend and happy knitting 🧶 😊🧵🪡🤗🤩

Not sure if anyone mentioned or not but your chubby dinos may be different sizes due to other factors not just tension. For instance, the dye process changes the texture or strength even in the same brands of yarn. Which maybe what is happening.
Hi Genna. Big fan of your work. Everything you showed is on my favorites list. Had to tell you I like the little runt chubby dino. You called him stumpy. I guess because I can relate to him. 😅 Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Hey love! I have a question… I’ve been crocheting for a while now and I just got started doing amigurumis. The thing is I’m quite knew and most I have made are from pre made patterns. I know some crocheters are okey with selling stuff you’ve made from their pattern, but I kind of feel bad about it or that it is not fair. What is your take on that? I know most you created your amigurumis down to the pattern. But I wanted to have an opinion from a fellow crocheter ❤ ty
Hello!! Excited for you to start on your amigurumi journey ❤️ Don't feel bad at all for selling the finished products if the pattern creator specified it was okay to do so! As a pattern designer myself, I always make my patterns knowing people will buy them to sell the finished products so it's seriously all good as long as the pattern designer is okay with it! ❤️
Girl you deserve more than $4 a bee 🐝 especially for the effort you put into every one
I hope they’re at least shouting you out in some way to help you get more publicity 👁️
Thank you so much!! I hope they do too lololol
its less than minimum wage after deducting costs
10 to 15 dollars gor the beed. you need to charge more.
You're not a machine. You don't give that big a price break. Wholesale is more work more pressure. There are no machines to duplicate crochet.
