Loved how many Skoda 14Trs were in the video. Such a shame that you didn't see the AMBER 203T VILNIS 12AC. They are very rare, with only 2 in operation. I have been on one with Trolleybus 20 and they are such a nice ride. Sadly, about 2 years from now, all Skoda 14Tr trolleybuses in Vilnius are to be retired and replaced by SOR TNS 12 and Solaris Trollino 18 IV. I will make the most of my time with them before it's time to say goodbye.

Those switches are great help especially when there is no need to go power off/on. But as it is said in the video most of them are installed quite poorly. The one near spaudos rūmai going to pašilaičiai was one of the first to be installed (at least in that part of the city) and was great compared to old one. But on the opposite sido of the road it was hated from the day it was installed. There were so many complains from drivers. Max speed i would go on it is 25 km/h when going left(at least with škoda). Down hill to žverynas it's kinda the same. Again going left it might seem kinda straight but it's not. No more than 25 km/h for me. Going from antakalnis in the city center direction switches near turn to 1-st trolleybus depo, then before šilo bridge and again before žirmūnai bridge. These three are decently installed. But still, no more than 30 km/h.
Also one think to add as well. Some drivers still drive through them like old ones (even where probably installed).
I just mentioned some of them where i drive.

Do I understand correctly that the main factor of speed is not the actual trolleybus but the infrastructure (wires, switches, etc)? Meaning, even Vilnius have new trolleybuses by 2025 summer, the will be slow - if no major infrastructure investments happen?

    • @lukaslt4806

@@auguststar77 well at least at this point of time- yes. These switches are installed to reduce power usage and not really for speed. But honestly they don't make to much difference while working because of timetables. They are f up. Quite often i have to drag along slowly (under 30 km/h) because there is way to much time given between stops. Sure, when i'm late (lets say about 10 mins) those switches are great help since there is no need to go power off/on.
Other problem are old connector switches (not sure how to call them in English) and turns. These are most noticable in roundabouts and in some bends.

    Hello Gintaras,
    I have some questions :
How are the switches controlled ?
By foot pedals, with a button on the dashboard or automatically by a box and an antenna ?
Another question: there are still a lot of 14Tr in service. Are there any plans to change them soon ?
And also, are there signs to indicate the speed to pass on the switches ?
Thank you again about yours videos, they are very good.

    • @MrGintaras

New switches control with button , they have numbers from 1 to 4 .
They planning already 5 years to change Škoda 14Tr . Now planning buy new 159 trolleybus , first part must came around 2024.
Switches speed is maximum 45km/h but most are poor quality as can see in video , driver going around 20-30km/h , faster drivers move faster that 30km/h

@@MrGintaras What was the speed of the trolleybuses with the old systems ?
The purchase of new trolleybuses is good news !
Do we already know who won the order ?
Although I think the 14Tr are very sturdy, but having low floors and new hardware is a good thing.

Greetings from Latvia. Is that a problem of particularly Vilnius that there is still in 2023 old "perestrojka" trolleybuses,i ' ve been to Kaunas recently and it seems like that their public transport park is very fresh and completely renewed ,is that problem due to the different operation companies which are in charge of public transport in Vilnius and neither local government nor people can't affect on them? Because overall Vilnius becoming new capital of baltics but it slurs a little bit an impression of the city, as even we in Riga which just not long time ago started to change in better way to not look like a shit hole have better trolleybuses, ofc lingering on behind in many other aspects as a city)))

And why's that a problem? We should be very thankful that we have trolleybuses, because they're a thousand times more efficient and environmentally friendly than regular buses.

Trolleybuses are just a fairy tale, but the terrible thing is that on the electronic boards of the route there is an inscription about love for the Nazis!!!
