- On Tuesday 10th October a large fire broke out in the number 2 Multi-Storey at London-Luton Airport, Investigations are still ongoing as to the cause.
In all seriousness, this was probably caused by an EV spontaneously combusting. Need to consider isolating those abominations.
It was a Range Rover diesel car, per validated news reports
As a neutral I did an investigation to prove it was a Range Rover MHEV based on the footage on the Daily Mail and where the fire appeared to be emanating from and what the range looked like from the back. I had everything to prove it and stuck to my case, until an EV owner said there was footage from the front of the Range (which was on Twitter and I don't use it) which showed the plate E10 ELS. With one short clip everything I thought was wiped clean and proven it was in fact a red 2014 Range Rover 6v Supercharged diesel by the details on the DVLA.
No EV at fault here this time.
However there is something very suspicious.
The Range was not parked, it was sat abandoned in the middle of the lane. In the original footage the lights were all on, and from the front the bonnet was open and smoke etc was bellowing from it. The fire was coming from the engine, the front n/s as well as the side. No sign of the owners. Two fire extinguishers sat next to it.
So suddenly I had questions. 1 Where were the owners because as far as the footage goes no-one was about but bystanders witnessing it and trying to put the fire out. 2. Was this an attempted theft?
There's been nothing from the police about accosting the owners of the car for the amount of damage caused because let's face it, one quick call to 999 and the airport would've had their giant fire trucks there in seconds, seeing as the car park is right next to the apron and quick access. So I immediately thought well, based on what I've seen thieves do when they hotwire and disable the tracking and safety features of these Ranges to get them started, did they short something and as they backed out, saw the fire start and then legged it?
@@dwilliams6346 Maybe that's the Range Rover's idea of an anti-theft system? Self destruct mode!
@@sv4996 Well enough of them are self-destructing so maybe you're right. But seriously though I've watched a few of those programs where they show how thieves bypass the Range Rover onboard safety systems and since this was 2014 it doesn't have all the latest gear. They rip out cables under the dash, under the seats, in the boot and in the engine bay. They have to make the ECU believe everything has been disabled and also, disable the tracking devices. So if they were in a rush, they may have ripped out cables or damaged others which caused them to arc, causing parts to exceed their safe voltages and start cooking the wires, and then 💥.
One thing I was thinking was, if you were the owner driving this car and you saw smoke, would you just get out on the 3rd floor and abandon it, or would you at least try and get to the bottom level or even to the open top level where there are far less cars parked? Did the wrong type of fire extinguishers used actually propel the fire if it was an electric fire?
🤷♂
I also had a multi story #2 fire in the toilet after too much mexican food late the night before.
Charging stations at the worst damage part of the car park?
Please let it be an EV 😂

Nice video ✈️
Nice video , gave a good view of the whole car park , I hope a lot of cars are ok and they can be recovered soon I did hear of a temporary entrance being created with that in mind , must be a worry for the car owners a the moment not knowing if there car is ok or when they are going to get it back yet alone any compensation over this.
Sadiq Khan saw a euro 5 diesel Civic in there and immediately started pouring petrol in the car park before lighting it on fire, that's what I heard from a reliable source.
Bet there still being charged for parking
Imagine getting ripped off to park your car. To come back and find you now don't have a car either 😮
Hopefully that's a pay on exit car park🤞
Rip my car
Joys of electric cars

can't believe there were people videoing the fire on their phones standing there and not informing the fire service airport security etc..! may they be whipped in hell for all eternity.
So it was an Electric Vehicle after all?
No it was a diesel land rover or range rover is what the reports are saying
@@ianstewartaviation2634 - because attributing it to an EV would not fit the “go green” narrative.
Diesel fuel, IIRC, is not as volatile as gasoline / petrol - unless someone lit a match or tossed a lit cigarette …
@@stevebabiak6997 E10 ELS was its plate
@@dwilliams6346 - it was a hybrid, which IMO implies the EV part was the cause of the fire. Diesel is not volatile enough to catch fire by itself, the only other reasonable causes for ignition would be a match or lit cigarette, things like that.
@@stevebabiak6997 I went through every single thing you're going through now. I studied JLR diagrams, the Daily Mail footage, the way diesel burns etc and it was all for nothing. Initially thought it was a PHEV, then saw the MHEV has a large lithium battery on the front n/s.
But then I saw the video from the front and it was conclusive.
It was 100% a Red 2014 Range Rover Supercharged V6 Diesel. The plate E10 ELS.
I was wrong, I apologised to the EV people I was 'arguing with' and submitted to defeat. It was a diesel. Not an EV or a hybrid.
The question is, how did it start. I'm still egging towards someone tried to steal it, hacked its wiring, caused an open short as they hotwired it which set it alight. The sat with lights on in the middle of the lane with no-one about is too suspicious for me.
Good video 👌
Does this fire affect departures and arrivals at Luton?
The airport is back to normal now it was closed for a time
It was caused by a Range Rover Hybrid. The lithium battery spontaneously ignited and burned through the concrete. Lithium batteries burn at a temp of over 2000 degrees C which will burn through concrete
I thought so too and argued it for 2 days until i had egg on my face. It was a straight diesel. Plate was E10 ELS. Suspicious circumstances surrounding it all though.
Wow so sorry for the mishap. I hope nobody die.
Thanks luckily no one died a few people had to go to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Thanks for watching 👍
The car park itself is a poor design, plenty of places for oxygen to get into, and no fire suppression system.
It wasn't built with EVs in mind. People are only now beginning to realize that all EVs are a potential threat the older they become. Which begs the question, "What are they going to do with all those EVs when people will no longer stand to have them near?" What happens when one of those EV storage places catches fire? Will it burn through the planet like a nuclear meltdown?
