The people in the House chamber could hear noises outside, so they were distracted. Pelosi and Scalise? (The lead Republican in the House) were evacuated to a more secure location. The rest of the Reps were evacuated, both Republicans and Democrats, to the same rooms (there are too many of them to fit in another room all at once, but they weren’t separated by party). Basically, everyone who was on the main floor of the House chamber was evacuated first because it the mob was closer to them and the majority of them were very important. The second floor of the House chamber is the gallery, which is a bunch of seats where people can watch the speeches and stuff on the main floor. These were the reporters and some other Representatives and staff were. The Representatives were sitting up here due to social distancing since they weren’t due to make any speeches. The gallery had to be evacuated after the main floor and everyone there was given gas masks because they had to be evacuated through an area that teargas had been used in. As far as the votes, yes they had already started. The two houses (Senate and House of Representatives) had already voted to accept the electoral votes from several states when objections were made for Arizona. The Senate left for their chamber and the House stayed in theirs so they could each separately debate the objections. It was during the debate for Arizona that the attackers got close enough for everyone to be evacuated. It sounds like the plan was to disrupt the entire vote-counting process so Congress would never get to a point where Biden could be certified as the winner. If that was the case, it didn’t matter when they interrupted the vote-count, as long as it was interrupted before Pence read out the final vote tally, which is the point that, Constitutionally, the next President is certified. What Trump wanted Pence to do is just declare Trump/Pence the winner. When Pence said he wouldn’t/couldn’t do that, since all he was doing is announcing the vote tally, then Trump told everyone at the rally that Pence ruined the country or whatever and everyone should March on the Capitol and fight hard.

I watched this all unfold on tv, my mom came home saying the trumpers are gonna lose it cause trump riled them up. Edit: The Senate and House were separated when the Capitol was breached. The Senate was evacuated first since the attackers had reached that area first. Both Republican and Democrat Senators were in the same room and evacuated to the same room, except for Pence and Grassly who are in the Presidential Line of Succession and were taken to a more secure location since they are 2nd and 4th in line to be President if anything happened to Trump.
The people in the House chamber could hear noises outside, so they were distracted. Pelosi and Scalise? (The lead Republican in the House) were evacuated to a more secure location. Pelosi is 3rd in line to be President after Pence. The rest of the Reps were evacuated, both Republicans and Democrats, to the same rooms (there are too many of them to fit in another room all at once, but they weren’t separated by party). Basically, everyone who was on the main floor of the House chamber was evacuated first because it the mob was closer to them and the majority of them were very important.
The second floor of the House chamber is the gallery, which is a bunch of seats where people can watch the speeches and stuff on the main floor. These were the reporters and some other Representatives and staff were. The Representatives were sitting up here due to social distancing since they weren’t due to make any speeches. The gallery had to be evacuated after the main floor and everyone there was given gas masks because they had to be evacuated through an area that teargas had been used in.
As far as the votes, yes they had already started. The two houses (Senate and House of Representatives) had already voted to accept the electoral votes from several states when objections were made for Arizona. The Senate left for their chamber and the House stayed in theirs so they could each separately debate the objections. It was during the debate for Arizona that the attackers got close enough for everyone to be evacuated.
It sounds like the plan was to disrupt the entire vote-counting process so Congress would never get to a point where Biden could be certified as the winner. If that was the case, it didn’t matter when they interrupted the vote-count, as long as it was interrupted before Pence read out the final vote tally, which is the point that, Constitutionally, the next President is certified.
What Trump wanted Pence to do is just declare Trump/Pence the winner. When Pence said he wouldn’t/couldn’t do that, since all he was doing is announcing the vote tally, then Trump told everyone at the rally that Pence ruined the country or whatever and everyone should March on the Capitol and fight hard.

Summary of the objections to the Arizona electoral votes
Republicans: the votes weren’t processed in a constitutional fashion, thus, the votes should not be counted
Democrats: we should follow the constitution, therefore we should count the electoral votes today
To me the requirements of what kinds of electoral votes to be counted is a prerequisite to counting them. Pence should have gotten clarification from the states. At least 3 of them from the state legislatures sent letters to Pence asking them to bring it back to them for clarification

I watched this all unfold on tv, my mom came home saying the trumpers are gonna lose it cause trump riled them up. We both started watching the tv thinking they weren’t gonna do anything crazy and then it just starting get worse. I started crying when they said the trumpers were going to the senate chambers with guns, both of us fearing they were gonna shoot them and actually start a coup and declaring trump the president . We started debating if we should start getting our stuff together and head out to Canada if they started shooting the senators. I’m trans so a trump regime was definitely not gonna be a great place for me but thankfully they weren’t able to get in. Sometimes I ponder though if they were able to get in and I get anxious and upset every time I do. This definitely was not a great day for America
