    I feel like when the tempo is high in a song best to quantize more to get it straight when a lot is going on in the higher frequencies?

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  2 года назад +1

      higher tempos definitely have less forgiveness for rushing and dragging. A pocket on a 180 BPM song is much more rigid than a 96 bpm song that has some space and swing.

    Dang. Your crappy drums sound better than anything I can come up with, let alone the better ones. 😆 That's why I use drums as little as possible. 😆😆😆

  • @leaveitorsinkit242

    Velocity makes a huge difference… slight time discrepancies on the other hand… not so much. Our brains just aren’t quick enough to pick out small millisecond discrepancies on the fly. Though… I do admit… on certain aspects of the groove… it can make a huge difference (like flams or in particular… swing %).

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  2 года назад +1

      Idk, I definitely feel like ears and brains are smarter than most think. A handful of people will feel that 5-10% difference that slight timing issues provide. I know I definitely would.

    • @leaveitorsinkit242
      @leaveitorsinkit242 2 года назад

      @@MakePopMusic Why don’t you hear those time discrepancies when you EQ a track or better yet… layer different kick and snare samples? Because after a certain point… you enter the realm of phase (where small time or PHASE differences result in big differences on the general output of the signal… but NOT with regard to timing). Very tough for me to break down in one comment… but look up _Haas Effect_ and it should start to make sense.

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  2 года назад +1

      @@leaveitorsinkit242 I'm very familar with phase shifting and HAAS effect. I'm saying that by moving samples off a grid, you add to a perceived pocket.

    • @leaveitorsinkit242
      @leaveitorsinkit242 2 года назад

      @@MakePopMusic Perceived pocket? I’m not sure I know what you mean. If you’re not moving things too far back or forward… the groove should still sound exactly the same. As far as the _Haas effect_ goes: _when one sound is followed by another with a delay time of approximately 40 ms or less… the two are perceived as a single sound._ In other words… shifting the kick relative to the hi-hat by 1/256th note (give or take) wouldn’t change our perception of the kick and hi-hat as one distinct unit (and this is not to mention that in the context of a full mix… there are a million other things happening at the same time).

    • @jesse9999999
      @jesse9999999 2 года назад

      @@leaveitorsinkit242 you are talking about transient heavy material, of course micro shifts in timing make a big difference. it is reflected outside of the production world with live drummers like chris dave as well, listen to some of his music and tell me that tiny shifts in timing don't make a difference. you can hear it pretty clearly in this video too. weird take tbh. the groove of a song is hugely determined by this.
