    This weekend I went to a local RTT and brought out the newly enhanced Dark Angels to see how their new rules had affected them. I made a list that felt VERY Dark Angel-y (instead of just Azrael and an Airforce) and that actually had me feeling optimistic. But how would things go once the dice started rolling? Well sit back and relax while I run you through my experience and my thoughts on the new Dark Angels and why I'm excited going forward!

    I absolutely love the Lion. I ran him in Gladius at the Rocky Top Open and did good for being my first tournie of 10th. 3 and 3, he was good then, he's amazing now.
    I've had some insane cinematic fights with him now that he can Kool-aid man through walls. Last battle he was in he smashed a Knight Despoiler in 1 turn, then charged and ripped apart a predator, followed that up by carving through a blight hauler and a plagueburst crawler. All while being safe from being shot because of the Jump Intercessors coming every turn to provide him Lone Op.
    Yeah, he's a lot of points, but he always earns them back + if you play him right.

      My last game, the Lion was charged by Murderfang and just one shot him on the fights first when he did so. It was beautiful.

    Personal experience lion is not someone you bring up the table. He's the best at babysitting your core damage dealer, i.e. a blob hell+azrael combo to either absorb the charge from wardog karnivore or angron rush because fight first is so important - the same way you play queen piece in chess to entirely control the one quarter of the table.
    Thus i think he's actually best at unforgiven task force list

      Also against actual Melee unit capable of killing dwk i think cap termi is a way better choice to drop fight on death and doctrine change's cost but otherwise i think dwk is best solo obj assault

    A lot going on with the “10.5” update, I’m glad Dark Angels got an update with the mortal wounds/devastating wounds. I think with the current density of terrain, multiple squads of deathwing knights feels right. Happy to hear the cool things of dark angels get to do cool things again. Chaplain with a shield is definitely on my list of things to build, for sure.

    Im glad you're having fun with Dark Angels again. I recently took them to an RTT and went 2-1 with Inner Circle. Lost to CSM (Renegade Raiders) round 1 but beat Chaos Knights and Space Wolves.

    I love the videos you make about the Dark Angels. I'd love to see a video where you think up some example Inner Circle lists you'd want to try. Or maybe talk about some lists using Inner Circle that you have already tried that you think are good and let us know why,

    Liberian can give Inner Circle the 4+ invo save, I also run my inner circle inside a Impulsor, at which point is then used to score secondaries after it’s dropped if the unit.. a quick tank with a 5+ invo to score points

    Glad to hear we can play Dark Angels like Dark Angels again, and not just as green Iron Hands. I did have fun with my "March of the Ancients" Ironstorm list (3 Redemptors, 1 Brutalis, 1 Ballistus, plus a Stormraven), but it just didn't feel like Dark Angels other than having Azrael and a Darkshroud. I myself have 3 units of Deathwing Knights; 2 squads have maces, and 1 has swords, and I'm overjoyed that they are actually good again. I also think Inner Circle Companions have decent play, but they need a transport to get where they need to go. I saw one list that did well in a tournament, and it had a block of 6 of them with Asmodai in an Impulsor. Asmodai helps them greatly with full hit rerolls, meaning they can fish for 6's if they need to.

    I went up against an Ork army and SMASHED them with more than double my opponents points using the Inner circle detachment with 36 Terminators...its a beautiful sight to behold! I haven't played in a few months so I gotta say I liked the knew knight rules and I was surprised by how powerful a 10 man squad of bolters can be with +1 to wound. I was also surprised by how well Azrael with the Companions did. That sweep or strike attack is great. All n all it felt really good running my Deathwing army again, it's my favorite.

    What’s interesting is that the book only had a few data sheets updated but the rest of the supplement received buffs and directly from the core update mostly the lion benefited from the changes the most.
    He can now block devastating wounds and third Primark ability, any dark angel infantry that are within 6 inches of him receive 4+ feel no pain versus mortal wounds.
    I also like his first Primark ability.
    If you picked that one until your next command phase, anytime your opponent targets one of his units with a Stratagem within 12 inches of the lion they must a leadership test, and if they fail, the strategy is not resolved, but it is considered to be used, which means your opponent has wasted some CP and he does not gain the benefits from the stratagem and the lion ability says that you gain one CP each time a unit tries to use a stratagem.
    I saw a lot of players complaining about his three Primark abilities, just because he does not really benefit from any of them personally such as the second one which provides a plus one to hit while dark angel infantry are within six” of his aura.
    I was looking at the unforgiven task force now that they’ve added a second detachment ability, which allows you to choose any unit in your command phase, and that unit gains a plus one to their OC characteristic as well as sticking at one CP become battles shocked.
    This made me wonder not only does the unit stay at TCP if their battles shocked , it might be worth placing a few ancients across some random units so that you can target them with the new detachment ability, which will make them a minimum OC three, plus there is an enhancement in that detachment which requires an ancient in order to be the bearer and that unit gains a 6+ feel no pain which becomes a 4+ feel no pain if they ever become battle shocked.
    There is another enhancement which I’m not sure if people are letting it fly under the radar called weapons of the first Legion, which increases some of the weapon characteristics of one character, but it only applies to his melee weapons.
    The bearer games plus one strength plus one attack and plus one damage and if he’s battles shocked the enhancement doubles those modifiers so you gain +2 strength +2 attacks and an additional +2 damage, which is pretty good if you place that eye character with devastating wounds, such as a hammer.
    One of my favorite characters to give this enhancement to is the gravis captain with the extra weapons.
    His power fist has five attacks and would become seven attacks if he’s battles shocked , his strength would shoot up to 10 and his damage would become a total of 4 each time, his power fist successfully wounds his opponent.
    He does have a second close combat weapon, and it does have the extra attacks ability however, in the core rules update, they made it a point to say that enhancements or stats that provide characteristic bonuses do not apply to any weapons that have extra attacks unless his data sheets specifically says that he may .
    This also works well on an intercessor captain with a jump pack in a unit of 10 intercessors with jump packs . the unit would gain three plasma pistols because you pick one for every five models in the unit and then the sergeant is able to pick from a list on his data sheet.
    The captain has access to similar rules and weapons , But I feel like taking a relic power fist one attack is not worth it if it has extra attacks.
    Also, I noticed you said earlier that dark angels are lacking an aspect of their army that is fast and is able to advance and shoot .
    We can always take a full outrider squad with an ATV equipped with a mela gun, the unit gets real spicy if you are led by a primary chaplain on a bike.
    This allows them to gain a plus one to the wound roll if they ever get caught in a chargeand during your next turn, if you have some kind of ability that allows you to fall back and shoot outside of the company of hunters, I would take that and place it on this because the chaplain provides devastating wounds on his bodyguard unit, and every model in the unit has a twin linked bolter rifle, which allows you to fish for sixes whenever rolling your wound dice. The only restriction is that your unit must target a unit within 12 inches which means everybody is gonna have that twin linked and the Melta gun is a Melta2, the gun has two shots and if you’re targeting a unit within 9 inches you get to roll a damage roll of D6 +2 and if you get lucky and you critically wound your target,a D6+2 becomes the devastating wounds.
    I really think there is some potential with the unforgiven task force if you enjoy a play style based around battleline units that pump up their OC characteristic for taking over objectives without having to slaughter any enemy units by simply just standing on it and having more OC points when compared to your enemy unit.

    I tried the Inner Circle Company also with ICC and Az attached . Man , those guys went trough a unit of DeathKorps like a scythe through weath .It allows for very aggressive play . Took my friend all his tanks with guided shots and such to take them out . And Knights withh maces are killers too . Of infantry and tanks/monsters . Also a combo worth playing in Gladius , RW command squad with FD and attached to a unit of Knights ...... If within half range , 27 plasma shots with sustained ....

    I think I’m going to try Unforgiven Task Force with the new ability that lets you target 1 friendly DA unit in the command Phase for +1 OC.
    If that unit becomes Battle Shocked it will be OC 2.
    Then I might toss in a few Ancients, especially for my Deathwing Knights. Terminator Ancients can choose Assault weapons, so a Hammer and shield is an option and you are allowed a 2nd character

    I unfortunately dropped the hellblaster blob. It is fun and effective, but it dies so quickly to any focused fire. Instead I did the impulsors + ICCs, scouts & 1 Jump Pack boys.
    Either way, it is great that the DA are back baby! No more tanks & flyers + Azrael!

    I really want to believe in the Eradicator blob, but it's 375 points with the Repulsor. How often do they fail to earn their points back, and how easy is it to actually get them where they need to go?

    Although my personal favourite unit to run in Space Wolves is Assault Centurions. Theyll trade for 500 points of my opponents army every game

    I dropped lion for a landraider. He’llblaster azreal apothecary combo is good. Sterguard vets with hvy bolters, apothecary and librarian is also swell

    It’s hard to play without the 10 hell blasters and apothecary. One of the nastiest combos on the table because they return and shoot back on the 3 up lol.

    My takes on what I would have changed. Take it with a grain of salt because I don't compete really. I would have taken Jump Pack Assault Ints in place of Scouts. Drop the Lion (BIG SAD I KNOW) and take an impulsor for your inner circle companions and Azzy, start the game with him on the battlefield for the CP before embarking. Throw in a Gladiator Lancer maybe for the ranged punch. The Jump Packs really help with the secondaries and the impulsor will help get the inner circles where they need to be. Finally, I'd take just one unit of Assault Ints just to have some battleline

    Hellblaster is also an absolute necessity in this meta where BA and sister reign supreme I think. Otherwise you simply cant beat jump pack melee with charge advantage

    Deathwing knights come with a watcher for a free 1 turn fnp vs mortals. Might want to experiment with a different character?

      It's only good for one phase in a game and I found myself wanting for the FNP from the Chaplain with my units that didn't have one

    As a space wolf player I feel bad for the unseasoned blood claw you fought. TWC can't deal with terminators, AoC means every save is on a 3+ and -1 dmg just seals the deal... The only chance he could have had was if he was Running Logan, but even then that's top 6 terminators in the best case, 3 on average. Just poor choices all around. This is why you run bjorn, redemptors or predators. I hope he learned for the future

      Deathwing Knights have Anti-Vehicle 4+ and then the Eradicators getting to reroll everything against vehicles is pretty good!
