I like to use a messy oil brush zoomed way out to block in an entire image and then detail only the important areas.
The messy brush creates its own shapes and the illusion of detail.
mindrapeart yeah that's the way to go
Aren’t you the guy that did Rings of Saturn album art?
This is real free education. Thanks
This vid helped. Doing too many little brush strokes and zooming in too much is a major problem that I need to correct.
VeyZ Art greatchapoy to hear it, best thing to do is not zoom in
I do same as you @veyz art , since I paint at very high res and if I don't zoom in, my potato will explode.Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade it soon.
that shift here 7:05, is when you press 'make it beautiful' button
yeah seriously what did he do ? add a canvas / paper texture on top of the whole image or use some filter but it just changes wtf x.x
He definitely painted over it, with better shapes and blended the colors with a textured brush
MrBreakingBones I might be wrong but to me it looks like he painted over everything with a brush with a little color jitter mode in ps brush settings
yeah I was wondering about that too. Why do keep out such an essential step in the video about exactly this topic?
Claritas Candor answer what ?
Wow really amazing illustration! I love how you composed this shot and then finished rendering it! Keep it up!
thanks very much
No problem! It was really cool to see how you go about painting your pieces, it'll be nice for reference when working on my own! Love your videos keep up the awesome work!
An extremely informative video, thank you so much. Top bloke!
Off-topic: I just discovered that you have a playlist with 80s synth wave music.. i thought i am the only one liking this kind of music because i literally dont know anybody else, beside me and now you, who is into this amazing sounds!

Excellent video, thank you!
Fantastic!
You helped me a lot!
Thank you
Thanks.
My own personal problem is that I'm way too caught up in all the brushes I could use and how I would utilize them, as well as trying to make my own which is another can of worms when I don't even know what exactly I should be trying to go for
thank you!
Valery Se thanks for viewing
May you make a playlist for this series
Hatem Ramadan it should be in one
Great
What i find a struggle is not exactly knowing how real world looks and functions. I know the studies can help, but not knowing how to execute them is hard
There is beauty in your soul none of us really do, that’s what reference is for
What’s the name of the first artist?
Mead Schaeffer
What is the discord channel name
What do you use to produce 3D renders for paintover ? I wanted to try out this technique and i was thinking of either rendering in 3ds max with mental ray or keyshot
i use sketchup and cinema 4d
Thank you for the response ^^
Thank the "need" to make money for art being full of these time saving tricks.
Never mind, I didn't wait until the end. My bad.
LAGRE?
You're good and have great breakdowns and judgment, but you didn't talk about the glowing Atlantis heads at the beginning of the video. Lame. Talk about Tyler. The glow? The markings? The size? Anything. Don't pass that up!
was just decorative element to add interest to the plain head. i thought i mentioned that.
You did. My bad that I didn't wait until at least half way through the video lol.
Thanks for this. Very helpful
