I really like new chicken mechanics. In 1st game there's no reason for chicken breeding, gardening was so much effective. Now we have more options.
I mean besides the gordos who need meat there still is no reason for them. I only made a coop after 20 hours of play to feed some meat to the meat eater gordos. I've always just combined meat eater slimes with a fruit or veggie slime. And the flutter slime I combined with honey so I wouldn't have to constantly hunt for nectar
@@MythsAMV if you don't want largoes and wanted every type of slime there was a reason behind it, but even then I had to keep traveling to painted hen spots just for my tangled slimes and would keep getting stony hens too. It was a pain and I would have like four coops just for one slime type. I just really thought all the slimes were cute and wanted one of each original slime species. Also the nectar thing is ticking me off. I can't get enough of that nectar to keep them fed. I have four of every type of slime right now except for flutters. I'm debating using my warp tech to warp to the tree and collect it every morning. I mean I need warp tech to go there anyways because it's just easier to get there with it. Also strange diamonds do respawn it just takes forever and they'll only respawn in the five original locations. I only got one to respawn. I hope they bring back the pumps and such.
I had two coops i go to sleep out to gather materials for my jetpack and i come back to like 300 chickens putside the coop wandering around
@@HH-lo7jw truth. I'm gonna probably set up an area where I dont have larges. I didnt do larges in the OG game cuz I thought they were annoying
@@MythsAMV yeah they are 100% annoying they escape more and create too many plorts. I only had one set up for pink and mosiac largoes since mosaic plorts are very profitable and almost every lab recipe required pink plorts. The rest of my slimes were the originals, they were all fed their favorite foods. When I couldn't do that they got hen hens.
It was really funny to enter into the area where I kept the coops and to see chickens explode out of the coops from all the chicadoos suddenly becoming adult. I also threw in some chickens and spare roostros into into a coral with some flutter-booms and I think they are multiplying within the coral too fast for the slimes to eat them all.
Maybe in an update they can add a coop upgrade that vacs up spare chickens. So, if the coop exceeds X number of chickens, the extras get sucked up until the collector is full.
Such a corral upgrade would make a lot of difference, because right now... it's chaotic.
well they have an upgrade to suck up the elder's but yeah a general collector would be nice.
Yeah, I noticed pretty quickly that the chickens breed & grown up INSANELY fast now. In the first game I had separate coops for the different species, but this time I'm just keeping them all in the same coop and just culling them generously
honestly you don't even need the upgrades that speed it up its already too fast without the XD

I cleared out my rooster population first and foremost. And then I sicc'd the ringtails on them. GOTTA get the breeders out of the equation first
yeah, they breed in pens now too so I have six hunter slimes to deal with the ones in their pen. I might add more or just get rid of the hens completely. Let my little ringtails go to town.
@@morgfarm1 You just need to remove all of the roostros and chickadoos. You don't really need the hens.
I'm too stubborn to restart the save, but I do admit I let a few individuals out of the coops, and now the main area and the one next to the beach area are rather overrun... Kind of hoping they add actual drones to the game that could set to wrangling the feathery nuisances.
I had a very bad chicken problem inside the gully there were hundreds of thunder chickens everywhere so i released 50 boom slimes there and it was cleared in a few days
I like this new chicken mechanic, it makes meat decently viable.
I have noticed the sea hens breed like crazy too, that's good unless you really care about favourite meat types.
The thing is why would you use meat on a slime if it doesn't give 2/4 plorts you might as well combine the meat based ones with fruits to get 2/4 plorts
I remember I did an experiment in a slime rancher 2 file where the only thing I did is open all the extensions and get 1 rooster and 1 sea hen. Then drop them in the ranch and slept for like 100 days, and when I came out it was all plagued.
Whenever I have a chicken outbreak, I just say "fuck it, RELEASE THE RINGTAILS"
The game gives a fair warning about chickens, the description of the coop is "keeping chickens in their place prevents the uprising" sounds like someone didn't head that warning and suffered an uprising.
Lol it's because the chicks turning into adults literally pop the surrounding adults out of the coops.
Like when ripe veggies roles aways from a garden plot when second batches ripen underneath.
I think they patched that as I've found they only pop when I hang around thecoops now.
Well, you can either have the original game's utter lack of chickens, making fruits and veggies by far the superior food items, and now we have the second game, where the chickens are broken to the point where they overflow out of the coop walls. Now I can atleast keep pure meat eating slimes, so all the more reason to believe in angler slime supremacy.
I don't even have a coop, yet several dozen hens and roostros swarm my Conservatory.
Heck, the portal to the right of the Conservatory (the one that you teleport to when using a Home Portal to the Conservatory) ended up being an unintentional breeding ground for hens and roostros.
The auto feeders are basically usless now that we don't have drones yet, they shoot much too fast on the lowest setting and they shoot out 6 each time so if you have more or less slimes then oh well, not to mention a bug I encountered that made them just shoot all the food in them out all at once lol.
DUDE I SAID THE SAME THING! I now have too much-wasted food and too many plorts to collect.
@@HH-lo7jw i had to cull my slimes for a while cause my auto plort collectors were maxed out and i couldnt get them emptied fast enough XD

I recommend putting them next to the refinery instead so you don’t have to waste space with a coop but only do this if your system can handle lots on things in a area the tunnel in the den is another area as well
Makes the game more enjoyable to know you don't have to rush back home to feed your slimes before they go feral
The chickens flying out is the uprising they mentioned in the description of the coop obviously lmao
I figured out about my 2nd day playing that something was up. But I thought "okay, so last time it's only a few will allow it to work, so free range them"
.... Big mistake.
I had well over 1200 chickens running around the total property of the conservatory. Took me almost an hour and a half to clean them up. First game day, I just let my 2 ringtails roam free in the night. Them, plus me vacing them up and yeeting them into the silos did a little bit.
After the sun came up I just started sucking up every damn chicken I could save for breeding chickens, and just loaded them into the ringtail's corral. Took AWHILE but I finally got my chicken population under control. I HAVE gone back to properly farming them though. now that i've unlocked everything, I'm now farming for actual plort profits to ranch properly. The only gripe I have so far is -- we can't get the moondew nectar anywhere at the conservatory, so we can't keep flutter slimes in their standard form and allow them to roam free. Nuh uh, I had to mix them with Honey slimes so they had something to eat. poor things.
Yeah, still not sure how I feel about flutter slimes atm. I love their design but their food preferences and game mechanic (reduce iritation among slimes) feels underwhelming.
@@Epokk just a bit. They're PRETTY though. I could let that all go if the moondew was actually common enough or at least possible to add to nodes on the property. Much like we can do for gadgets. But using the mechanic for the resource outcrops. Plop a half dozen moondew nodes in
Each plot area and call it good. Let them be the free range slimes they claim to be and have a lively decoration that is not a threat to other food items. Otherwise I'd let my large flutters run about. And I may still consider it once I've made more progress and have more than 5 total slime corrals
I didn't know they improved the hen raising stats until I watched DangerouslyFunny's breaking slime rancher 2 in 100 days where he nearly crashed the game with a full conservatory of hens. I'm happy that I can mix hunters with other meat eaters so roostros and whatever hen will both be slime favorites... happy slimes = max profit!

Thats what I did so I could actually ranch the flutters
I have a chicken coop but sometimes a random hen spawns and somehow still spawns a chick with the roostro in the coop and then it keeps spawning more and more so even having one randomly can be annoying at times
I make use of the chicken plague for my farms. Coops seem pointless in SR2 because of this escape issue and Corrals seem to work just as well for containing them. At the conservatory I have 7 corrals each with 8 Angler largos and about 20 sea hens and 4-5 roostros in them and 4 more in the den (the 8th conservatory corral has Ringtails).
The sea hens breed faster than they get eaten and I periodically run around gathering up most escapees which I feed to Ringtails, keeping about 200 Sea Hens and 100 Roostros in a silo in the den just in case the anglers happen to eat all of one sex (happened 1 time so far).
In the archway I have 3 incinerators, a silo and a garden (carrots) and the other 2 have 4 gardens (4 fruits, 4 veggie) and a silo each.
in SR1 I had free range tabbies and a bit of a chicken problem on the range but since I still had to feed the rest of my slimes sometimes (bots never seemed to keep up) I had all my largos eating fruits and veggies. In SR2 I just have to pick up chickens and feed the Ringtails and Fire slimes and make sure none of the pens are out of chickens.
I expect a change is going to come to chickens before release and this strategy will stop working but until then I am fine with not needing to ferry food around.
Literally spent an hour cleaning my base from the infested Hen hen … omfg. Ppl keep those chicken under control!!

it happens not only because hens overall are faster, but because laying eggs now only takes in consideration the amount of chicadoos and not other adults

I had a roostro that escaped the chicken corral tingy, and because i did'nt have space in the vacpack i just let him out

There might be a bug in the game. Or it's just a feature right now. That they might remove, but there is no more limit on how many hen's can be in a single cop
I had a couple chickens and a roostro just stuck over at the return home portal. Not even in a coop. And after I first got a portal set up to use the return home portal pad i was spawned in on top of like 50 chickens. I even had a massive chicken out brake in the wild. It lagged the game coming into the area and they weren’t enough pink slimes to stop them all.
When I encounter such a breakout, I often just do a community service and throw them into the slime sea with one swing.
I literally put like 3 hen hens and a roostero in my basement at the start of the game for safe keeping and within only a couple in game days my basement has been overrun with chickens.
man i remember when i first got on the game i insteadntly realised that the chickens were broken i was able to get about 5 corrals ( things that hold slimes) fully and basicly chickens glitching in each other one time i put 3000 chickens in a corral i made over 1 billion coins or 1 million its been a couple of years so i dont know the exact details but it was a lot alot
Well in the first game I mixed meat and plant eating slimes because it was easier to care for them with gardens, now I mix meat and plant eating slimes so I can keep a self-renewing food source in the corrals and never have to manually feed slimes. Seriously wish they had added the ability to grow food in corrals.
Wait the hen hens and the rostros can populate in corrals!
I “accidentally” had my chickens break out of their coop many days. I have chicken overpopulation now

The issue I had was they were breeding while inside the slime coral and they breeded so fast that it took 8 days (game wise) Just for them to go down by half

best mechanic is that they can reproduce in an normal plot my honey hunters almost made an balanced system.
I have both favourite foods for the Largos I have, so I grow every food type on my ranch. But I first used the home teleported way later than I should have. I didn’t know where the teleporter exit in the ranch was, mainly because the roaming chickens had been using it as a breeding ground the whole time, plus a path that leaded to a ranch expansion (don’t know which one). When all was said and done I had one side of a silo full of hen hens with the rest in the tabby rock corral.
Btw the fact that the silos only hold 100 per slot is bs

@@julib0050 I feel that after 8 hours I was rolling in cash with my Cotton- Tabbies lol. I have those. Boom phosphors, honey hunters, batty anglers, crystal rock, rock ring tails, honey flutters and then the puddle and fire slimes of course. I'm kinda disappointed how quickily I got rich tbh but it's still hella fun as always. I've been on a grind getting honey and moon nectar now. Nectar for the flutter big boi of course

I still find it incredible dark that chickens age and you feed the elder chickens to slime. For a game that is all about being cute and adorable, that is just dark.
They live their lives making babies to the fullest.

No just use a different strategy. I put in about 40 hens and 5 roosters with 5 largos. They breed faster than the largos can eat so it becomes self sustaining. The population stays stable as well. The only issue is when they become elder chickens but even when I just leave them, the population still doesn't change. I'm testing to figure out the lowest number of chickens for the most reliable stable self sustained coral and the only issue is when they become elders. However, still the population stays stable.
I dont know how many poor chickadoos I had to murder with the incinerator after my ranch was overrun

Honestly they just need to not make the chickens explode when they grow up but the amount you get is perfect for having a consistent farm. Hoping we get a way to farm nectar soon!

I noticed you are able to store 50 sea hens in your vac. How do you unlock the last vac tank upgrade? I got both of the ones from pods, but I'm stuck at 40.

That's the way I do it. If your one Roostro becomes an elder, your entire food production comes to a stop.

Eh, I think they should add an area population limit past which chicks stop appearing, maybe set it at 100 per species.
You can also raise the chickens in the corrals now. I found that out on accident when I put roostros and hen hens in my hunter corral. I had extras so the auto feeder kept putting them in. Well I was wondering why I wasn't running out like I should. I looked and there were little chickadoos in all of the corrals that had roostros and hen hens.
I've noticed that too, now I just have to check there are roostros that haven't been eaten, and my boom corral is pretty much self sustaining.
You could in the first game too, I saw that in one if CaptainSauce’s videos where he looked in one of the carnivore corrals and saw chickadoos. It turns out all that was ever needed for breeding to occur was for a roostro to be within a certain proximity to a hen. The coops just add options to increase the breeding and growth rates.
has anyone had the problem with hens and roostros spawning outside the coop as every couple of days i have to clear up over about 300 hens and roostros i had tried using tabby slimes `to combat this but they kept jumping into the coops and eating a lot of the occupants.

if u have a stoney chicken farm and sleep for 18 hours youll find out that the farm is overloaded and chickens are running arround all over your farm😂

i had 1 chicken and 1 rooster on my farm went exploring and when i came back my entire farm was invested

I literally broke my game because i threw all my chicken in a certain place and they bred like cockroach, everytime i go to that certain place my fps drops to 5-10 Xd
Sadly I still don’t need chickens for anything, except for the money slime thing
Edit: actually the crazy chicken breeding is very useful for meat gordos. Give it a day and you can basically feed two meat gordos with one coop 😂

My farm is completely overrun. I cant even play on my 3080 i9 12900k. I have literally 3000 chickens. I cant do anything!
You have like 1/1000 the amount of chickens i do and ive killed thousands and released slime to try and help. NOTHING will get rid of them they reproduce faster than i can manage them.

this doesn't happen for me on xbox. Sea hen's stop procriating if there are too many chickens nearby.
I do have chicken coops, but I use them as spares since, I just breed a tone of chicken in the cages because they can breed faster than the slime could eat them and if they manage to eat all the roosters, I just go to the coop and launch some back into the cages to breed again
the only meat eater I don't do this is the Weird dog that turns to stone during the day because they just keep on eating, found that out when i put 40 chicken, seagulls and 20 rooster in the cage only to find it empty the next day, fucken weird dogs,
I prefer the other weird dog who can turn invisible compared to the weird dog that turns to stone at day since they are a pain to find during the day and a pain to keep as well

1) invisible 'weird dog' is hunter slime. 2) stone-transforming 'weird dog' is ringtail slime 3) slimepedia actually says that ringtails keep eating no matter how 'full' they should be, and if they are eating when a slime would usually be 'full', they keep eating but dont produce plort for all the excess food eaten. pains in the ***

@@thespacedingoking Ringtails are adorable. You just feed them the excess fruit you get from farms and they're fine. My ringtails right now are eating cuberries and pomegranites since I have them in the cave with my phosphors and bat slimes. Also, the design is based on Tanuki. Traditionally known as the raccoon dog in Japan according to legend they can shapeshift and like to turn into stone statues. I'm trying to look up why they turn into stone statues though. Even the binding of Isaac references this with the item gnawed leaf.
