This great album came out when I was in college in mid 1970s. I remember critics thought it was weird and had incomprehensible lyrics. I thought they were expecting Pat Boone or some equally innocuous. This is and remains a brilliant album. Tull's entire 1970s work is some of the best music of the 20th century and I am including Copland, Stravinsky, Bartok, Grofe, and the standard prog rock bands. The section that starts with "I have no time for Time magazine" is beyond superlative.
"Baker Street Muse" is towards the top of the greatest musical catalogue available. Jethro Tull's music stands alone on top of the mountain. This cut is in their first tier.
I'd say its highly flawed. Possibly unfinished and released in a rush. And yet. It does have some very strong moments and excellent lyrics. I feel the track and album are weaker than most of the bands material but certain segments of this track are some my favorite bits their catalogue
@@unknownkingdomoh please! Do you even know what this song is about? Tull was at the top of their game during this period. My only complaint is I thought this was going to be an actual live performance. It’s an amazing song and an amazing album. And now that I’ve watched this, it’s cleverly put together.
@absolutelypositively not really. They floundered after thick as a brick and didn't really recover until songs from the wood. Those albums in between (passion play, warchild, too old to rock and roll and minstrel were all sub par. It took Ian a while to reinvent his style. JT released on a strict schedule, released an album every year no matter what plus touring. It kept them on the map but the creativity was lacking for a while. But let me conclude by saying again there are *parts* of this song (baker street muse) that are cool and interesting. It is just stuffed with a lot of filler and feels unfinished to me.
Not only one of the most (underrated) beautiful band ever, also best (BY FAR) costumes. So cool, rock, punk, celtic, countryman, pirate.. just wanna be there to get dressed like that and be buried in smoke and whisky
Потрясающий альбом и эта сюита, конечно, тоже. Да, с этим альбомом были некоторые сложности, но, видимо, благодаря им он и стал столь крутым. Тексты заслуживают особой похвалы. Это тексты Поэта с большой буквы.
Ian, and all the versions of JT, All musicians etc... were so damn good, Its taken for granted. You just expect genius to pop out, Folks that hate Tull? tend to resent the time they seem to be living in or emulating. costumes, style etc..They come off as court jesters, than they destroy the place with genius
Me either. They toured (fall 1975) but it certainly wasn’t a tour promoting ‘minstrel.’ After brick and passion play was when I started seeing Tull every tour that was close to where I happened to be living. First show was the War Child tour, though I’d been listening since aqualung. Caught em all through Crest of a knave. Seems the format was pretty standard, with the middle bit of TAAB in just about every show. I’ll say one thing, the band rocked out, and every date I took to see them loved it (and Ian). It’s been decades since I’ve seen JT(Halloween night 1997), and it was the only Tull gig I didn’t enjoy. I started off seeing them in arenas, and as a teenager knowing my band was that popular made it (for me) very cool. Saw em fall 96 at a 10,000 seat outdoor theatre with ELP opening. ELP sounded cold and not nearly as good as when I listened to them in high school and college. Tull rocked it as usual. Good time. Back to 10/31/97 . They changed the concert from a beautiful ‘Fox theater’ type of venue to a 2,000 seat place for bands who are working their way up. But what spoiled the show for me was my seat was next to the soundboard, and right there tapes to the board was every song they were going to play that night. I was hoping because it was Halloween that Tull would pull out something like Witche’s Promise for us but no, they did a standard set and guess what they closed the show with? Locomotive Breath! But I still Love Tull, and I always will.
Baker st is a VERY complex piece of music. Lot of time/signature changes. Plus kind of hard (even for Ian!) to play acoustic, flute, and sing all at the same time. Would've been very difficult to play live. My big fantasy is that Ian will be cleaning out his wine cellar one day and come across pro shot videos of complete TAAB & APP shows along with a LIVE recording of Baker Street. Hey, stranger things have happened...
@@ymmit7459 I'm pretty sure they never played it live. You're right that it is a difficult piece but they've performed similarly complex things. it takes things like playing flute parts on glockspiel or synth but they've done it. Just not for this one.
From this album they just played live "Minstrel" and "One white Duck".I think "Baker St. Muse" is too personal (lyrics) sometimes too bitter, and just don't fit in mostly "jolly" vibe of Tull standard live performance.

Великий Иэн Андерссон никогда не перестаёт удивлять! Более 50 лет являюсь поклонником его таланта, но этот изумительный шедевр слышу впервые!!!❤❤❤
Jethro Tull, One of the Best Bands of the history so far.
The best ian’s guitar perfomance of his life. A masterpiece in an álbum that is a masterpiece itself.
A great piece from one of my favourite Tull albums. Simply wonderful

A musical magical band
Who didn't grow up on Tull....eventually

Absolute classic tull.
.....very sure!!
Todo un POEMA de canción, una auténtica JOYA!!
Great song from a great album.
always my feeling with JT: "I can't get out!"

No one captures the gritty misery of early to mid seventies Britain quite like Ian...lol
nach Thick As A Brick für mich persönlich das beste Stück ever von Tull-leider nie live gespielt
Can you turn back the clock to 1975? 😢
Does anybody know why they never did any of this live ?
Don't know why!
