My friend in high school had the 454. It was sooo nice and felt quick (for a Junior in high school in 2013 at least) But, I’ve never been in a lightning before. Only ever seen them driving around. What felt quicker to you?
I have a '14 5.3, CC 2wd Silverado that I use as a daily driver and occasional tow vehicle, at least for a short while longer (I'm buying a GM '24 2500 as soon as I find the right deal). For towing purposes, I added an intercooled ProCharger. With a towing tune, it puts just over 450 hp and just under 500 ft lbs. to the tires. As far as performance, it blows away any of these trucks (except for the Syclone). That said, I have always been interested in those 80s/90s sport trucks. There's just something about them I like.
Its so crazy to see what these special edition high performance truck of yesterday produce for horsepower and now you can pick up a ram or a ford with a v8 and youve got about 400 horsepower from a base model
2 things. A Sonoma gt was only .2 seconds behind the 454ss in a quarter mile drag race. And the heads on first gen lighting were not from the gt40. But the gt40 casting, from the h.o. and Cobra mustang engines. Overall a very small mistake, in an otherwise well scripted video. Good job

I appreciate that man! Thank you
Id love a Sonoma GT just needs a 6.0 LS and a 5 speed but that body style Sonoma and S10 are the best looking its crazy how hard it is to find a nice short bed now
1992 Ford Nite (F-150 or Bronco) No performance upgrades but it was the first factory available color-keyed truck on the market. And, true to Henry Ford's origins, you can have it in any color you like so long as it's black.
The ford splash 4.0 and cyclone/typhoon I’ll never forget ❤
Less than a year ago, there was an exotic dealership in ChicagoLand selling online the Syclone's meaner older brother, The GMC Typhoon. Basically a 2 door S-10 Blazer/S-15 Jimmy from Hell!! Showroom condition, obviously. WELL under 80,000 miles. $24,999.00 American. 😮😮❤
I worked with a guy who had a Typhoon, his pride and joy, kept in cherry shape. He had a second kid so he traded it in… for an Equinox. I don’t care about trucks but jesus man that still smarts. The Vibe he had would have been fine.
@@RobCamp-rmc_0WHAT the F+×÷ WAS HE THINKING?!?!?😮😮😢And what? He had a Pontiac Vibe, too? His wife made him lose the Typhoon, didn't she?!? Women are Good for That!!!!!
Wonder how many syclones came up too Canada 🇨🇦
Sick video bro
Thank you bro😎
'Performance' and 'Truck' in the same sentence is pretty funny.
Interesting. I eat Prius’ in my lowered extended cab 5.3 chevy Silverado.
There’s a Ranger GT across from my parents storage unit. Other than the paint it looks awesome.
The s10 extreme was a nice little toy 205hp 245 lbs of tq if i recall.

99 Lightning still looks fantastic even today imo.
😂😂😂 “I’m not a robot”
I have owned both the 454 and the lighting and I perferd the 454 more then the lighting for around town type stuff but the ford was alot better on the hwy
My friend in high school had the 454. It was sooo nice and felt quick (for a Junior in high school in 2013 at least)
But, I’ve never been in a lightning before.
The awesome thing about the older cars, you throw 3 to 4 k at them in upgrades, you can add 100 more hp.
I built the AMT 1/25 scale 94 F150 Lightning model kit a couple of years ago... A decent kit to build...
i havent watched all your videos but where was the flareside f 150
Its so crazy to see what these special edition high performance truck of yesterday produce for horsepower and now you can pick up a ram or a ford with a v8 and youve got about 400 horsepower from a base model
2 things. A Sonoma gt was only .2 seconds behind the 454ss in a quarter mile drag race.
And the heads on first gen lighting were not from the gt40. But the gt40 casting, from the h.o. and Cobra mustang engines. Overall a very small mistake, in an otherwise well scripted video. Good job
Thank you for pointing that out and appreciate the positive feedback!
SS for sure great video
Thank you man!
What's your thoughts on the early 2000s hyundai genesis like 2011 2012
I think they look nice, and look fun to drive.I would prefer the 3.8 over the 2.0
@GreenHawkDrive that's funny I got a 3.8 I love it
@@Upt.Spider Right on man! Have you done anything to it?
@GreenHawkDrive not yet I'm planning to get a Flowmaster exhaust system soon tho
Do it!
Spider fuel injection was the worst GM my friends who won't touch them with 50 pole difficult to work on and headaches
That sky ranger looks siiiiiiiiiiiiick
That _snrrrkh_ as the end is AI as hell you can’t fool us
I don’t care for pick’m-ups at all but man that Syclone is lean and mean, a far cry from the crowd-control brodozers piled up in modern suburban mall parking lots
😂
I had never heard of the Sky Ranger. I've never seen one!
Tbh I thought the 80s and early 90's were all piss and potatoes while I Iived through them..😤 But I never realised how seriously good we had it, and how fkn good they actually were..😂 I'd do anything to go back to them times. They were great..😊 Everything was better then. Modern life is rubbish. Lol. It's too modern..😂
5:25 they were awd too 😂
Thanks for pointing that out😂
The Ford would be easier to work on but i am in love with displacement so I'd have to opt for the ss454. Probably regret it when it needs an alignment.
No replacement for displacement
Both were very fun trucks but the lightning was much lighter and just whipped around better.
If I won the Lotto I'd have a Black 454SS and a matching Black Ford Lightning of the same model year.
4:28 #Syclone owner of number 0828 all stock. #SonomaGT was more rare for sure. 1993 lightning had 2 tanks, came in useful when I went to vegas.
Right on man, those are such great trucks!
We remember things with rose colored glasses for sure. I had a Sonoma and holy cow it was a piece of shit. Tons of motor issues.
I feel ya. People talk about how bulletproof the 2.5 iron "duck" engine was. Well I went through 3 and none of them made it to 100,000 miles.
When you gonna show the Tacoma Xrunner some love ? I had a 2012 , only truck I’ve ever liked .
I know exactly what you're talking about. Unfortunately, I don't cover anything past 2009.
@@GreenHawkDrive Toyota manufactured the xrunner from 2005 to 2015 . Just admit it’s because it’s not from the big three .
That’s not at all why. I haven’t dipped into any of the foreign markets. That’s something I’m trying to incorporate in
Give me the Lighting over the SS
"Performance" is a generous term for all but the Syclone / Typhoon.
I agree to an extent. Was I to title the video "More forgotten somewhat performance-ish trucks of the '90s"?
