It is even better when using pliers made for these type of clamps. The tool pushes the ear down while compressing it. Folding the ear down flat, making it less likely to loosen over time. Kudos for a short well made video.

Thanky ou PTW saved my cv boot job on my work vehicle and other cars. Also PTW is located in Melbourne Boronia ppl. Im ordering these ooetiker CRIMP clamps as we speak. Previously bought the basic double loop band clamps not crimp style from repco.. after i tried to do my cv boots i finally understand why at checkout the repco guy said ' i really wish u luck with these ' with a grin.. only these crimp style can handle the hard torque of wheel rotation day in day out. The basic bands kept leaking and if i tried to do it too tight the tabs will break. These type Crimp is the way to go. Im sure the repco ones do work but not suitable for my vehicle.

You could spray the boots and even all rubber / plastic parts underneath the vehicle with 303 Protectant to resist drying out and cracking .

Wow is it really that easy?
If it's the outer one you can do It with the axle removed from the vehicle. For the inner one it might sometimes be a pain in the ass to get good grip and access while the band keeps unclipping itself... my outer one was this easy, my inner one was a ridiculous battle

Any way you can do this without the tool? I want to reboot my axle, and I don't want to buy a tool and use it twice and have it just laying there for the rest of time.

This clamp unfortunately is a cheap Chinese knockoff of the original Oetiker clamp, and was designed to make it "universal". So the teeth are located on the top part and go down - straight into the rubber. The clamp is a horrible design, with the tension applied teeth start bending closer to 90 degree angle and create holes. Oetiker has teeth facing up, not down, and unfortunately is not universal because of the design. However it is about 10 times stronger compared to the one shown here

You should use the proper tool not pincer..
THAT IS THE WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB!
That tool is designed specifically for the job. It even has a side clamping provision in the tool for clamping from a 90 degree angle if required. Maybe you are thinking the cheap tools made of plate steel are the correct or better tool?

An informed rebuttal with even a single counterpoint to the comment's claims. For example, is the center crimp important? etc. etc. Nor did you or anyone here frankly list your qualifications and experience in years or hours of training, etc. You may be correct, but because at least VV listed one detail he sure seemed to think was important.. and yours was only addressing hurt feelings and tone, your comment applies more to you than VV. The only thing that helps your case is that you were second. If lives are at stake with a vehicle part.. being passionate when needed doesn't bother me one bit. Ego can be dented and die. Don't defend it. It's just a story we tell ourselves, about ourselves.. it's not who we are really. Dissenting opinions only hurt if you have tied an opinion to your personal identity or ego. @@tastingtoastgaming1590 Accepted you are correct on a number of points. I don't believe anyone in this discussion (as is often the case with social media) has stated any qualifications. No engineering qualifications or psychology for that matter. I guess my reply was reactive as I felt the initial comment was unqualified, emotional and attacking with no grounds for making the claim other than having a personal preference for doing it a certain way. Unfortunately, these kinds of comments are often posted by competitors. I actually find it strange myself when people post unsolicited comments and statements with little or no understanding or explanation. I apologise for my harsh personal comments, they were uncalled for. For the record, I have been a qualified automotive engineer for over 30 years and have worked specifically in automotive driveline industry for over 15 of those years as well as being a qualified automotive teacher. The tool and clamps demonstrated in the video are correct and fit for purpose. Lives are always at stake with vehicle repairs and maintenance, which makes it more unfortunate when a correct repair method is being demonstrated and it receives comments saying that it is not right.
