Actually, when you think about it, much of what's being brought up has already been established in the story - this is just clarifying some points. I'll cover my thoughts/theories below... First of all, recall how our soul was in tatters after all that Light we were forced to absorb on the First? And how, afterwards, Ryne comments that it seems fully repaired after we rejoined with Ardbert? That's basically what Eutrope wants to use our soul for. Since our soul would not be a good fit for her soul, she'd likely have to "operate" on it to adapt it, which is probably why it takes an exceedingly dense soul as well - in order to be able to "sculpt" it to match her own. Secondly, there's also some lore dropped during Endwalker patches that cover how absorbing the aether of another warps your own. Whilst the pure souls produced through Origenics have not been indicated as having this effect, one could theorize (based on the 99 trial) that extended/excessive exposure even to such souls will lead to similar degradations. Thirdly, the facility in Origenics isn't (that we are aware) capable of "fixing" cracked souls. All it does is take the combined aether of a soul, infused with memories, and separate the memories from the soul, to allow a more "pure" soul absorption - one less likely to cause the corruption we see in the Void.
The souls processed in origenics aren't "absorbed" in the same manner as a voidsent eating. They aren't stacking souls, they're swapping out when they die. The only one that absorbed additional souls was Zoraal Ja. It's not likely that doing so would warp the one doing so as the voidsent process took the whole thing and this caused personalities to meld. The "cleaned" souls have had the memories stripped out of them. He just overfilled in the end.
@@25xxfrostxx Actually only partly true. Anyone who oversouls absorbs souls, and the hunters do so all the time. I'm not talking about the revival process. Lest you forget, the feral souls are also produced in Origenics (the final leg of the dungeon and the final boss is a prime example). I'm curious to find out if old hunters, having oversouled many times over their lifetime, also experienced the same effect - and were swept under the rug using the memory removal system. However, it is interesting to me why Zoraal Ja left the feral souls in the Arcadion and slaughtered his own people to produce "regular" souls instead. Was he aware that absorbing all those feral souls would warp his soul? Food for thought.
@@truthless4720 That's definitely possible. If he knew about the detrimental effects he may not have wanted to do something that he knew would kill him even if he won. I have a feeling we will come across more than one instance of people or groups dying after being disconnected just to keep their damaged souls out of the recycling process.
I was under the impression what we destroyed in the MSQ was just that hidden floor in the tower that held/recreated the endless and nothing else so all other functions of their systems are intact

Psychonekrosis sounds almost like turning into a sin eater or voidsent, except they're corrupting their own souls with those of beasts that causes it. In which if it worked on Zero, we have a crystal shaped mcguffin that might do the trick if the worst comes to pass.
I was pretty sure that worked on Zero specifically because it was a case of Light neutralizing Darkness. Therefore, given the aetherial variances of the beasts utilized by the fighters here, it would be a lot more difficult to achieve the same result, especially if that beast's aether skewed more towards the same part of the spectrum as Light.
I think it's good for Zepla to question the specifics of how things in FF14 work; but my nitpick is that she only does it with Dawntrail. This is a problem that FF14 has had for years; where they use the nebulous concept of 'aether' to explain just about anything, and come up with new solutions to previous problems; but they don't really stay consistent with existing knowledge. They'll always just have characters conveniently forget or not bring up solutions we already know about. It's always made FF14 lore really tough for me to get super into other than just 'going along for the ride'; so I'm a little disappointed Zepla's ONLY bringing it up with regards to Dawntrail. When she makes her video on Dawntrail's story, I hope she references that some of these are problems with FF14 storytelling as a whole.
How are they muddying the waters? Can't a soul be "strong" ("dense" like ours for example) without needing memories? The simulacra make complete sense to me. Yeah I tried to pay attention but Wuk really did ruin it for me. When she continued to tag along with us rather than stay behind after just becoming a dawnservent I immediately didn't care about anything that happened afterwards lol.
If im not mistaken the regulators are a sped up version or the re-incarnation process. The conundrum with those apparently is that the person being revived is not exactly the same person since the memories are altered.
I dont get why there's confusion. They are the souls of dead champions. Origenics cleanses souls to create empty souls anyone can use. So the empty champion souls are in storage at the Arcadion. They pull on your memories to give the empty souls appearances and abilities to fight alongside you. And because they are a former champion's soul they are nice and strong, unlike some regular person's soul.
The raids redeemed the MSQ for me, I'm so glad I thought they were so fun, and the post game dungeons too. The gameplay saved the sinking ship. I just need Wuk Lamat to stay absent for the rest of the patch content, just have her say she's gotta go do her job and let Koana come with us if we need anymore dawn servant stuff and we can at least end on a high note.
Also, raid series in terms of gameplay has been an improvement every expac in my opinion. I actually feel the same of the stories. I can't speak of this one in full yet but, I doubt I will enjoy this story more than the previous ones. Not to say it will be bad but, it had some heavy hitters from a story angle. Coils, Alexander, Omega, Eden and Pandemonium were pretty important.
I like that this story isn't a big world ending threat, we don't need that for every single raid story. It's just amazing to me how people keep complaining about the devs not doing things different and then when they do people are all like '' it's worse cuz different ''. I think they're playing into the wrestling theme and I think that's great, I think the story is going to be kayfabe ( '' fake '' ala wrestling style ) and everyone except the WoL is in on it and at the end the lala guy will have a huge wrestling style betrayal and turn out to be the president all along and it'll be all overly dramatic and hammed up like it is in wrestling. All I need really is for the raid story to be fun and I think so far it has been really fun.
There's a solution to this, though not an easy one. Rejoin those of degrading souls. Literally rejoin them to a reflection of theirs from another Reflection. Maybe even try 13th? I'd like to also remark here again, this soul mutilation business is horrific. Not only you cut off someone from returning to Lifestream by cutting out their aether from their memories, using this feral soul business is effectively what WoL was doing in Shadowbringers by overloading on Light. The only way to fix that was by rejoining with Ardbert. This business needs to be killed with this raid series and the patch content. It's a horrifying blight that cannot be handwaved away. They're essentially doing what Voidsent do to each other in 13th. It is the product of a broken, faulty AI that thought memories equaled to a person, THEY DO NOT, and Ja Ruul who just wanted power. It is a system that needs to be wiped out. Solution Nine can deal with all this just fine without soul mutilation. They have far advanced tech, and they can just open an Adventurer;s Guild branch to deal with monsters. This soul business needs to end, and end fast. This shit gets out of Solution Nine, it will cause a world war. Do you want people like Lord Lolorito in the SOUL and IMMORTALITY business? Do you? I would like to remind everyone. Splitting someone's memories from their body and soul.... is what Arasaka SoulKiller was doing. You know, the super bad thing from the dystopian sci fi story?
I see where you’re thinking way is, but remember that only a handful of the people in solution Nine are actually from the Source (Those who got caught in the dimensional fusion who were originally from Xak Tural). Alexandria and the Everkeep are pulled straight from a different reflection aspected of Lightning and we haven’t seen any proof yet that anyone who isn’t from the Source can be rejoined. It would only be a solution for a select few if this is the case. WoL’s only real solution as you said is to shut the whole thing down, which of course is their goal. Winning the tournament and being allowed to see free any souls that fight alongside them is the first step.
I've said this it feels like a hundred times, but Wicked Thunder's theme reminds me of old-school side-scrolling beat-em-up games like Double Dragon. Like, couldn't you see that theme playing in the background while you're running across rooftops in a thunderstorm chasing after the boss of the level? Wait...it's an entertainment fighting organization fueled by souls...THIS IS LUCHA UNDERGROUND!! I KNEW I SHOULD'VE SUSPECTED DARIO CUETO WAS BEHIND THIS!! THE DUES TO THE TEMPLE MUST BE PAID!!
It quite literally just started and you're already complaining about the raid story? They're clearly playing into the wrestling thing and I love it at least I don't need every raid story to be a world ending threat or something it just needs to be fun. I also think the story is actually kayfabe ( wrestling fake ), and that everyone except the WoL is in on it and the lala guy will turn out to be the president and be a big wrestling style betrayal at the end.
3rd fight is fun with a group that doesn't know what to do (so long as they all learn over time.) I wiped 4-5 times and people left, but by the end of it I was able to do most mechanics. It's a very learn-heavy fight that's fairly intuitive, so it's one of my favorites in ff14.
All that talk in chat about Lalafell being evil. Look at their name. Lalafell. Lala fell. What is lala? A sing-songy tune for idleness. What is idleness? Idleness is the devil's playground. Fell. What is fallen? Hmmm, maybe THE ANGELS THAT REBELED AGAIST GOD ?!!?!1?
I think it's interesting to see how Zepla still has ranged brain and runs away when she gets a spread marker, instead of sitting on the boss and risking death over losing uptime like melee usually does. Also Zepla X Honey B is kinda spiderman pointing at spiderman
To me in their society and how it has evolved I view their use of souls as kinda like organ donations after death. You die but part of you was still healthy and can save another's life and you opted into the organ donor list? Then that liver of yours is going to someone who needs it. I know it's not exactly the same but I again I see how they came to this point.
alright lets go down the basics of necromancy and apply it to ff14. Resuurecting only the Soul, results in a Spirit, basicly what they use as powercell. Only the memories and you end up with a Ghost, wich are the Endless in this contest. If you only reanimate the body you get a zombie, zombies exist in this game more or less standert. If you want to properly rezzurect someone you need all 3 in top condition.
I can't believe people still have this msiconception. *ENDLESS DON'T HAVE SOULS* they are just the memories of the dead given form, the soul is extracted to be made into a soul cell. So the Arcadeon support system aren't endless be definition
To be honest this is kinda why I stopped watching Zepla. Ever since her rant about hating Endwalker it seems like she's in that mindset where she finds any reason to not like something which is truly annoying. "Why are they muddying the waters with souls?" "I thought the arcadion was out of souls" all of these questions are answered if you actually pay attention to the story. The whole point of the Arcadion is the controversy around the use of souls for fighting and the souls you're using in the fight are manifested memory which is almost identical to the Endless. Also the arcadion wasn't "Out" of souls Zoraal Ja shut them down cause he wanted to use all the beast souls for himself and Metem literally explains this. I understand it's popular to think FFXIV is bad now and you're the one who started that train so gotta stick to your brand. There are plenty of good reasons to dislike Dawntrail's story but this is just nitpicking at this point and not paying attention to the story.
felt this way with MSQ too, sure the pacing is weird and the characters are written pretty bad... but at least nothing happens for no reason that isn't EXPLICITLY stated in the cutscenes, voice-acted or no
Okay, 2min in and Zepla got the story wrong instantly. How droll. Everkeep separate the souls from memories, Living Memory kept the memories of those souls and turned them into an simulacrum of those memories. The soul, the raw aether from it, is preserved in LOTS OF CRATES still within the systems of Everkeep, to which people can use the Regulators as they used. As said in the very credits, their lifestyle was not meant to change, but it is now a finite resource. Living Memory was AN COMPLETELY separate entity. Origenics still is a thing. And that's literally drawn over for comprehension. Jesus. You can see how people complain about the story, claim it to be simple writing, and still doesn't understand 10% of it, but want to complain.
Im gonna be honest it really pissed me off how zepla made the lore about souls so difficult to understand. If you take it at face value it makes sense. Champions probably gave up their souls to the arena and just like azems reincarnation is always powerful- the same thing goes for the champions souls which is why your 7 party members are other players that are just as powerful as you. The reason it is a simulacra is because just like in living memory they are able to create these false people using a soul mixed with memories of the person. Using yours allows for the 7 other people to join and make sense. Then they disperse and recontain the souls for use later in other fights. I genuinely did not understand why it was that hard to get and why she was picking apart things they were on the screen being explained to her. Also her take on the endless are so cold. While yes theyre not the same people- the memories that they are experiencing while alive as endless are still being recorded hence why wuk lamat and sphenes talk at the end was important. Her memories were restored and you were talking to the sphene you met in the beginning and not the reprogrammed one. The sphene that she has a heart to heart with is the sphene made of the memories of the actual queen. Only her partial memories were restored which is why mis fight even after they were restored she was still resolved to fight you until after the system controlling her and everyones memories were destroyed and she was free to speak with you meaningfully before she faded away after you killed her.
The fact that Square managed a raid tier this good with as horribly as they utterly botched the MSQ, that might just save this expac. It is like those two part of the game were made by two totally different companies who never met
Ugh, wish RUclips would stop throwing up Kamala ads in front of my face. It makes me want to use a blocker but I don't on channels I like. RUclips, TT, etc, it's just Kamala, Kamala, Kamala...
Sooo...are we intentionally not paying attention to story details yet still constantly nitpick now? like I get the Wuk Lamat annoyance but this? its already established after the MSQ that we didn't destroy the soul repositories as Wuk didnt want to change theit way of living/culture per say?. 5:00 And didn't Sphene (or Cahciua was it?) explained how the regulators in detail in a nifty little cutscene? The shift in behavior in your playthroughs of previous expansions is so jarring...first half of DT was aight , Second half of her DT playthrough was funny with the whole Wuk beign everywhere thing this is just annoyingly nitpicky compared to her previous playthroughs...are we gonna get bring that "T.O.P broke me" attitude here still in Dawntrail?
It's easy to care about the lore of a well written book such as Lord of the Rings and other classics. It's harder to care, concentrate on and remember the lore of Sesame Street. FF14 has lost some people's trust in their storytelling after EW patch and DT, and with that comes not really paying attention, cos what's the point.
and another thing. in Everkeep, during the phase change, you can see that his regulator is gone after the transformation, and doesn't reappear after death. i figure that he absorbed enough souls that his regulator somehow got destroyed, or perhaps absorbed the regulator itself

I still don't get why we can't have eyes like Black Cat :c
Please look forward to it (tm)
Was told its due to the side effects of using the primal soul.
@@Choji2011 Yea but like, I hope it might be a feature we might use, it looks good.
@@Dor_Z oh yeah it would be nice like more hair colors and highlight options. I was just thinking you were asking lore wise.
Id like more vibrant colors in for hair and eyes later on
Its not like this raid story is more interesting than 7.0, yet it still is because no Wuk in every single cutscene.
You’re really mad about her voice actress aren’t you?
@@jaybee4288 nice misrepresenting deflection.

1:46:19 "BAH GAWD IT'S THE THUNDERTAKER" this comment KILLED me hahaha
I've been waiting for this video every since the raid came out. I want to see her react to them sooooo much
Brawndo, it's what champions crave!
They have to be champions because they have the aetheric density to handle the memories of WoL reflections you infuse them with.
this is sad. no one told Zepla that the soul simulacrum part is actually the way Yoshi-P explain how you can join a raid with other players...
Zepla's inventory gives my anxiety.
idk how one can exist like that lmfao
Different servers for living with regulators vs dead. Also a soul is just blank paper to write on. It has nothing to do with what a person is
3rd fight is fun with a group that doesn't know what to do (so long as they all learn over time.) I wiped 4-5 times and people left, but by the end of it I was able to do most mechanics. It's a very learn-heavy fight that's fairly intuitive, so it's one of my favorites in ff14.
Pretty sure Black Cat's VA is the same as Venat.
Thank you for sharing the gameplay, Zepla!
I am eagerly awaiting for the next vids! ❤
Honey B. Lovely = vtuber
Crowd/Audience = twitch chat donaters
😂
I want to like Honey Bee but I can't stand how her voice makes me think of Firecracker from The Boys
I can't believe people still have this msiconception. *ENDLESS DON'T HAVE SOULS* they are just the memories of the dead given form, the soul is extracted to be made into a soul cell. So the Arcadeon support system aren't endless be definition
lets face it this xpack has a reflections worth of plot holes
The President has got be Alexandria's equivalent to Zenos, right?
nah, he absolutely their version of lolorito
Considering that my toon IS an Idol herself, seeing Honey B Lovely as such a cool boss with an amazing song is super cool. Well done, Square
so... to trust or not to trust the milala
Need to move during the beam shot in M4 if not you will get damage
I was literally thinking the same thing lol
felt this way with MSQ too, sure the pacing is weird and the characters are written pretty bad... but at least nothing happens for no reason that isn't EXPLICITLY stated in the cutscenes, voice-acted or no
She learned with Asmongold. Seriously.
Pretend to be dumb makes your chat enrage and keep everyone entertained..
Can't be more droll than your comment. 🤷♂️
Zepla has top tier voice acting
Edit- after finishing the video i know now that the champions didnt willingly give up their souls. Either way it doesnt complicate it much.
Preach 🤣🤣🤣👯
Ah yes, the raid tier where half of the mechanics are "Dodge Left Side AoE into Dodge Right Side AoE" :D
Well, except for the Bee.
The fact that Square managed a raid tier this good with as horribly as they utterly botched the MSQ, that might just save this expac. It is like those two part of the game were made by two totally different companies who never met
Since i play with my lappy muted i didnt care about the non voice acted scenes
LOL i just laughed at Honey B cuz trying to ask friends who i played WoW and convince them its not really a weeb game then this fight comes out >_

The shift in behavior in your playthroughs of previous expansions is so jarring...first half of DT was aight , Second half of her DT playthrough was funny with the whole Wuk beign everywhere thing
this is just annoyingly nitpicky compared to her previous playthroughs...are we gonna get bring that "T.O.P broke me" attitude here still in Dawntrail?
It's easy to care about the lore of a well written book such as Lord of the Rings and other classics. It's harder to care, concentrate on and remember the lore of Sesame Street. FF14 has lost some people's trust in their storytelling after EW patch and DT, and with that comes not really paying attention, cos what's the point.
@@bobken8024 "i didn't pay attention to the lore because it's bad" lolwut
and another thing. in Everkeep, during the phase change, you can see that his regulator is gone after the transformation, and doesn't reappear after death. i figure that he absorbed enough souls that his regulator somehow got destroyed, or perhaps absorbed the regulator itself
