  • Shree Bajreshwari Mata Mandir also known as Kangra Devi Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Bajreshwari, avatar of Durga. The Kangra Fort is situated nearby. Its location is on a mountain near Chamunda Devi temple, and is 16 km from Nagarkot. The main gate entrance is built similar to the fort entrance. The temple is also surrounded by a stone wall like a fort. Inside the main area Goddess Bajreshvari is present in the form of Pindi. The temple also have a small temple of Bhairav. In front of the main temple an idol of Dhayanu Bhagat is also present. Dhayanu Bhagat offered his head to the Goddess at the time of Akbar. The present structure has three tombs in it, which is unique in itself.
The puranas state that Maa Sati immolated herself after her father Daksha insulted her husband Lord Shiva. This enraged Lord Shiva who opened his terrifying third eye and danced a fierce tandava across the earth with the body of his beloved Sati in his arms. The Gods were afraid that the Lord Shiva's anger would destroy the universe and they sought the assistance of Lord Vishnu who dispatched his all-powerful discus - Sudarshan Chakra - to cut Sati’s body into pieces. Every spot on Earth that received a portion of Maa Sati’s body became a place of worship for devotees of the Goddess. Each of these spots is honoured as a Shakti Peetha by devotees of the Goddess who are also referred to as Shaktas. A part of Sati fell at this spot, thus making it a Shakti Peetha.
