“The devil is the accuser, not the condemner.” Man, that’s some good stuff. And you hit the nail on the head about mothers feeling their children’s pain more than the children themselves. Thank you!
On the contrary, the Gospel (and Law) frequently poured all over the mess of mothering is incredibly practical! A faithful pastor is a mom's best friend!! (And a dad's, and a marriage's, and the kids'...)
wow i’m a new believer and have had so many worries about everything. i’m at 24:20 and that really just changed my whole view on a lot of things. Thank you so much to the both of you for all of the work that you do.
Thank you for this on funerals. There are ways to save without resorting to cremation, as your guest says: don't get upsold. Simpler caskets, refrigeration over embalming ( "pickling,") lower cost plots like natural burial cemeteries).
I am not Lutheran but I am friends with the Lutheran pastor in the town where i live! He gave me the book “Has American Christianity Failed”. I read the book and loved it! I have been watching you even since Pastor Bryan. I am now reading Extra Nos by Flame. I am a nerd and love to read. If you could tell me what other books to read I would greatly appreciate it! God bless!
Paster Wolfmueller has a number of books. I am in the process of reading the book you mention. Pastor Joshua Sullivan is another great Lutheran author. In addition how about checking out Luther's Small Catechism?
For the freedoms we have in caring for the dead, the only “cremation” in the Bible I can remember is King Saul - unfaithfully rebelling against God - after a failed suicide attempt, then burned by the Philistines. Then King David gathered the remains and buried them. So do I want to imitate Saul or David (and the many other faithful believers)?
The discussion on cremation was helpful - thank you! My husband's family are/were all insistent on cremation. According to him, to not "take up space in the ground". This didn't bother me because I think back to Ezekiel and the Lord raising armies for Israel from the dust. Discussion with my Pastor was that people being cremated and having their ashes scattered were trying to hide from God. I don't think that was my husband's thought, but who knows? That said, I didn't think I wanted to go there myself. This gives me comfort that a burial is definitely what I want. I'm also aware of the laws regarding embalming, and knowing that doesn't have to be done because it's really expensive. So, good all-around discussion on the topic.
I am LCMS and cremation is perfectly acceptable. Buying a casket is a complete of money. None of us are laid out with spices the way Jesus was. Anyway, nobody can hide from God. Nobody. There is no burial you can choose that can used to hide from God 6:51 . Who knows? I’m half kidding but maybe some pastors accept kickbacks from funeral directors to counsel bereaved families that should casket burial (this will certainly pad a funeral director’s pocket).
Great first question discussion (habitual sin). Related question - Would you agree that a believer who remains in unrepentant habitual sin (ie adultery), is not granted eternal life with God? Appreciate any thoughts you might have.
So I was thinking about cremation and burial. and my brother and i had my father cremated as he wanted to but we had no other choice money wise. He was also a Lutheran. So my grandmother was also a devout Lutheran and she gave her body to science. So kind of the same thing? God created everything so obviously this shouldnt be a big deal. but idk. just thinking on it now. Thanks Brothers!
I struggle with cremation, I lean to no because we are choosing specifically to do it much like any other sin yet are we really repentant of it? We justify our beliefs through the scripture. I’m not sure that is justifiable through scripture.
Pastor, you talk about the devil working in our hearts and sins, however we also, as lutherans, hold that the devil is bound and destroyed by the death of christ. Do you believe that the devil is still working in the lives of humans or is this metaphorical? Would love some clarity on this topic.
The devil is usually used as a catch all for our spiritual enemies. So demons are the ones directly responsible for this but they do it on the devils behalf.

Oh, how I love clear biblical teaching over personal opinion!
I had a group of moms in which our kids were within a. Year of each other. We supported each other! It was awesome to have such connections

Please keep doing these, they are always very helpful.
"Is it a sin to be cremated?"
A better question.... "How do I best confess the resurrection?"
Thank you, Pastors!
