Inspired to make these based on Sue’s video, clear instructions, tips and recommendations, the cookies came out delicious and looked just like the photos.
glad to see everyone else in the comments agree the sue li is a great on-screen personality to do this. she’s informative, seems very patient and helpful, and turned a daunting recipe-on-paper, something many home bakers would avoid, into something that seems attainable. I would watch any video with her.
I love how she was cheering on even when something went wrong, it can be scary when the thing you are making doesn't match the description. However, she sweetly says its okay to make mistakes and they will turn out fine, absolutely love her!!
Sue Li is great. Wonderful presentation with the right mix of education and entertainment. I really felt smarter and will make these cookies. More Sue Li please!
She is so delightful to watch! I'm selfishly thankful that one of the dough slabs broke in the video, because Sue was so calm about it and I absolutely would have panicked while making these if I didn't see her power through. lol
At first they seem like a lot of work but it actually turned out to not be that bad. Could just make the dough on a worknight then assemble and bake another day. I'll be giving these a try!
Thank you so much for this! I just recently started baking--thanks in no small part to an early Black Friday deal fulfilling my years-long desire to own a right-proper stand mixer--and one of the first things I made was some really fantastic sugar cookies... I started thinking about ways to zhuzh it up, and making something like this was what immediately came to mind. Definitely agree with so many of the comments; Sue is _delightful,_ and NYT should find any excuse to have her do more videos! 😃👍
I just discovered this video after making the checkerboards many times last year. My baking cred went way up thanks to Sue Li! How can you not feel special receiving a little patchwork quilt to put in your mouth. And the tang of that strawberry powder...
My grandmother made a very similar cookie for the holidays and I have been looking for a way to recreate such a nostalgic moment. Thank you!! Sue is just the absolute best!!
Loved watching Sue Li create this absolutely beautiful cookie! Can't wait to make it and feel confident after watching her show us how to do this...with patience and humor! Well done!
Love Sue-Li, made these twice, I recommend going too moist vs. too dry. 1st batch too dry. Mine needed a couple tsps of water in vanilla and strawberry dough and a few tsps in the chocolate dough.
this could translate as a bit finicky if you're not used to involving a ruler in your baking, but the entire process seems really meditative to me above all else, it begs you to take your time with it. and the fact that you get over SIXTY cookies' worth of dough as a result is fabulous!!!! three logs of dough oh my god!!!!
I am going to make these. You make it seem not so daunting. I really like that you left in the broken pieces so we see that even professionals have accidents. Thank you! :)
Delightful, Sue. Keep coming with childhood inspiration, visually & gastronomically appealing treats, and how-to, encouraging videos for all of us fans watching on our phones!
I want to watch this video 10 times. She is lovely! I usually shy away from a recipe that seems this involved, but she has convinced me to give it a try.
ever since i glimpsed that neopolitan cookie in the recent cookie week box that Eric Kim opened, i have been anxiously looking for and awaiting the recipe/video for it. it is just so cute!! sue li is a treasure. ❤
i'm in love with these cookies!!!! Also Sue, omg I was cracking up at all your commentary especially: "it's fine nobody's watching you make this....except right now" 🤣
WE NEED MORE SUE LI, SHE’S THE BEST!!!!
Give Sue her own series. She's so relatable and accessible for home bakers. And hilarious.
Absolutely love Sue's self deprecating personality! She makes me laugh with her chaoticness and humour!

Sue Li videos always make me smile! These look so beautiful!
Resting cookie dough(s) during holiday baking season is the best! You make the dough in advance and just get to baking when it's time.
OMG THANK YOU FOR THESE 👏🏽
Delightful, Sue. Keep coming with childhood inspiration, visually & gastronomically appealing treats, and how-to, encouraging videos for all of us fans watching on our phones!

Reminds me a bit of my favourite Battenburg cake. That's pink and white wrapped in almond paste. Delicious! I'll definitely be giving these a try.

Something about this seemed like the math class I would hate having but by the end of the semester I loved math & my professor.
Stunning! Can’t wait to make them for the holidays (and eat almost all of them myself)
