goff0103 chongqing does have underground metro. Monorails are line 2&3 of the CRT(chongqing railway transit) and other lines such as line 1&6 are actually underground subway.
The building that the monorail goes through is great. The train is so quiet that I'm sure the residents don't even hear or feel the train. Interestingly, the bottom portion of the building did seem rather vacant, but above the staton, all the apartments seemed occupied.
i have heard that Chongqing was the greatest city in the world ...(by the number of residents) ! ! less known than Beijing or Shanghai... but i would like to visit this town (by monorail of course) ! greets from France !
Actually not, they say it's biggest coz they include the population of some other towns around the main city, which are also classified into administritive area of Chongqing.
Very interesting footage. Great filming! THANK you! An "item" to share ... and bring to my playlist of "trains, planes, ships & church bells" for sure.
The first design of these trains was conceptualised in Japan by Hitachi (who also supplied their IGBT-VVVF inverter, model number: VFI-HR3615C), then assembled locally at CNR Changchun, who designated these trains as QKZ2.
+Figureight The shot looks good, but I do things low tech. I was actually standing on an escalator going from street level up to the station entrance! It was kind of funny because I got on the escalator too soon and was walking down the up-escalator past people who were looking at me very strange!
+perry mac The nice thing about the monorail is that it is a much slimmer track. You can fit this track places that are too small for the Vancouver Skytrain to fit.
Awww .. you still champion at filming .. bravo (although I still can`t figure out how come filmers of your calibre, with your eye, aren't numerous .. oh well)!
Great video. And if I may I wanna acknowledge here in the comments the late Kim Peterson. He was the founder of the Monorail Society and probably the most vocal advocate for monorail technology. Maybe America and Europe thinks only of Monorail for the theme parks but clearly in China Japan and other parts of Asia the technology has shown to be capable of carrying as many if not more passengers than a standard metro system. Kim would have been proud of this video.
Wasn't it invented by a German? They seem to copy and use western technology better than western I wonder why it has not been implemented in western countries
Well this particular type of monorail is known as the straddle beam in that the train straddles the track as oppose to being suspended beneath the track like in Wuppertal Germany. The German company known as Alweg popularized it. Today several companies including Hitachi and Bombardier have continued manufacturing monorails based on the Alweg style.

+Hobo G The scene at 1:48 was shot on my last day in Chongqing. I thought there was something terribly wrong as I was approaching this area as I heard I lot of yelling. There was a man who was doing breathing and yelling exercises to warm up after swimming in the river! He made me feel his damp hair for proof! I saw about 5 people swimming in the river over the week I was in Chongqing.
I was last in Chongqing 10 years ago, very different to now! Back then it was a common sight to see people floating in the river attached to colourful dry packs carrying goods. The current was used to transport people and goods downstream. No boat required, quite amazing. www.dropbox.com/s/c3tjux1eelada7q/P1030621.JPG?dl=0
They are really quiet. The trams in Oslo are atleast 5 times as loud as this, shaking and screeching like hell. I always said we need monorails instead. And then just build a park/bike thingy under.
As far I know Germany does not have a maglev monorail.CRRC a government railroad company has built two medium speed maglev train lines, one in Changsha, the red line in Beijing and is building 9 more in different cities.CRRC is building a larger maglev train between cities at a designed speed of 2,500 km/hr in a vacuum enclosure..Siemen sold China the maglev train and the CH5 train which China improved to the CH360 that runs at 350 km/hr.
@@Luke_Starkenburg , that's so interesting, have you ever make a video about the HSR network in China? Chinese progress are making some engineering marvels such as the Beijing-Shangai high speed railway, which was built in only three years
You've done it again, Luke - another fantastic video! It really shows off just how silent these trains are - a single car on a nearby road makes more noise passing by. I really have to say though, for such a new system, the trains are really, really ugly! Very spartan/bare bones. Really looks like they're from the bad part of the 70's. :)
Yes, I agree the trains are not very beautiful, but they are utilitarian. They have the face of a regular subway train. The monorail technology is great though, allowing the monorail route to snake quietly through the city with minimal disruption.
I wish we could have a Monorail from downtown San Diego , California to the ( SAN ) airport , talks was going good on the subject then Covid-19 showed up and ended the discussion .
