  • The Chongqing Metro Line 3 has a mix of 6 and 8 car trains operating on it. All stations are long enough to accomodate 8 car trains however the platform screen doors would need to be changed to operate the longer trains on the entire route in the future.

    I like that they've let/encouraged vines etc to grow on the concrete pillars

Thank you for your effort and for sharing it! What I also love is that it seems that the neighbors living close to the tracks in the highness Apartment buildings aren't negatively affected by any noise.

      Yes, I loved finding this pagoda on top of the hill for a birds eye view of the city and river! Chongqing is really an amazing city, one of my favorites in China! It's true about the lack of noise. You don't see them building huge sound walls by the monorail to keep noise in like they do for highways and elevated steel on steel metro trains.

    This is just fabulous. There is no reason why other cities in the west including here in America not consider using monorail technology instead of relegating it to an amusement park attraction. The Tokyo Monorail for instant is known for being one of the few transit systems to turn a profit having served billions of people. Can the New York City Subway say they turned a profit?

    Chongqing metro line 2 is the only maglev monorail in the world.CRRC has built two other medium speed maglev lines,one in Changsha,the red line in Beijing and is building 9 others in other cities.In 2014,Jiaotong ,China s oldest railroad school with government funding built and tested a small maglev train in a vacuum enclosure ay 1,000 km/hr.CRRC will build a larger maglev train between cities at a designed speed of 2,500 km/hr.

    Unless they make these monorail trains to run at at least 90-100km/h capability (normal consistent speed of operation) it will never really become "rapid" transportation option.
    Rember 90km/h is 50% faster than 60km/h. That could literally mean 30-60 minutes of time saved for commuters in a big city every single day!

    • @Luke_Starkenburg
      @Luke_Starkenburg  4 года назад +1

      Speed isn't that important when the stations are close together, but I definitely agree with you that the should have been faster. I'm really excited about the urban maglev systems being built. In China, they are testing faster urban maglev trains, capable of 160km/h which would be incredible! The guideway of maglev trains are slightly larger than monorail, but still much smaller than other elevated trains. (The Linimo maglev in Nagoya Japan currently runs at 100km/h.)

    • @jasonjumat5070
      @jasonjumat5070 4 года назад

      @@Luke_Starkenburg First time I'm hearing about a smaller maglev trains.
      Should definitely look into that.
      Yes, Luke. Speed does make things more versatile. Slower speed is fine for tourists. The important thing about public transportation and the determinant of its success is always about whether it's reliable especially the timetables (punctual) in which it operates.
      Speed gives a system legroom for especially those who don't have the time like tourists to get from point a to point b either faster or cheaper. If it could be both that'd always come down to an even greater success.
      Will look a bit more into maglev urban trains for the fun of it.
      👍
