After a few months using Pine Shavings in the coop.
It is hard to clean the poop and there seems to be a lot of dust.
I was going to use sand, but it was wet and not available at some places.
So I decided to try the Wood Pellets.

So, if you fill a 5 galleon bucket up with those pellets about 1/4 of the way, add cold water till it completely covers the pellets, then quickly dump out the excess water and stir with your bare hands. Within 15 min your whole bucket will be filled. Stir it and put in your coop. It’s should be dry. It will still absorb and the BEST part… you can use your litter scooper to clean it. The pellets won’t fit through, but the dust like pine will… just like sand and capture all the poo! Super easy! I’ve been using mine for over a year.

I actually put the pellets out on a tarp. Sprayed it with the hose. Used a rake to spread it out, then let it dry for a day. But your way with the buckets actually sounds WAY EASIER. Thank you for watching and the comment. I'll try your way on the next batch. It really does work better with the scooper.

I’ve been using those same pellets for two years. To me… it’s perfect. I do sprinkle some PDZ in there too.

      When we had 10 chickens
There was a lot of poop.
Had trouble with the pellets going through the scooper.
So I saw a video where people were the pellets. Let it dry then put in coop. They worked great. For about 6 months. Every time I scooped the poop. I shook the scooper. The poop stayed in scooper and the broken down pellets fell through great. But after a while it turned to dust. Dust everywhere. Lol

The reason they are sleeping in the corner is because that's how they slept in the brooder, you have to put them on the roost at night to train, your hen house doesn't have proper ventilation, sand doesn't work, those pellets have carcinogens and what you said is nasty is actually the healthiest for your chickens.

I just switched to pellets today for my ducks it smells so much better. They make it wet everywhere so I’m hoping this is a better method.

Thanks for posting your video. What was the result after you used the pellets?
Btw, regarding your chickens not going on the roost until the day time, it’s possibly due to your cameras. I put a camera in my coop as well and the nightvision (by use of infrared lighting) was on by default. I noticed the chickens would be constantly looking at the camera. When i moved it so the camera was only pointing at half of the coop, most of the chickens began sleeping on the side where the camera was not pointing. I did some research and saw that chickens can see the infrared light. Supposedly it doesn’t bother them much but based on my experiment, it did. Now i turn off the night vision and the chickens seem to sleep evenly throughout the coop now. If you want to see if this might be the reason why your chickens dont roost at night, maybe try turning off the night vision or turning off the camera completely and see if that changes their behavior. It was really hard for me to find this info online so i had to conduct the experiment myself. Good luck!

Mine wouldn’t eat banana until I froze it. Now they love it… especially on a hot day

After the chickens started attacking each other. There free range now. They eat less pellets that I was buying. They eat everything out in the yard.
Gave them fresh cucumber today they loved it.
Yesterday made them big plate of scrambled eggs

has anyone that has used pine pellet bedding had issues with their chickens eating them? Does it hurt them? Or are they really even eating them....I cant tell.

I was using the pine pellets. They were digging in them and I think pecking at them as they look just like the food pellets I give them. But I don't think they were eating them.

Hopefully they should be laying within the next month. Just in time for winter, then they slow down production. Lol.
