a superb display of course management for anyone wanting to improve their own game. So much of the pro golf game is focused on the power game and driving distance, Tigers game planning here was just perfect. So many of us amateurs can learn a lot from this.
Yep that's the most impressive thing about this major win...he had more talent than everyone of course BUT this win showed that he also understood course management at a level beyond the rest of the field by miles...to go an entire weekend and be in ZERO bunkers on a course like this is unfathomable, but he did it...irons and avoiding danger made this look so easy for him
Unfortunately most course designs in pro golf don't call for this kind of strategical game any more. Notable exceptions: Augusta National, Royal Melbourne and Links golf in the right conditions.
This is one if not my favorite tournament for Tiger. He knows his lead, he knows and understand his competitors, he knows what the course will yield, and he knows his limitations. He hit the ball like Ben Hogan and putted like Ben Crenshaw.
I sure felt it for him at the end when he broke down over his Dad. I'd like to think that if his Dad could talk to him at the time, he would tell Tiger not to be sad. But it is very sad anyhow.

Hi, Ben! I used to work in broadcasting, and I *think* -- I don't know for sure, but I *think* -- I can shed some light on why there's no graphics. This upload is by the Open Championship, itself, the organization, which says to me that this footage is the so-called "dry feed" that gets provided to those networks who've paid for the rights. The networks would then add the graphics themselves, so as to add value for their viewers and feature their own text styles and (of course) their own logos. So the idea of putting the graphics "back," as you say, would be a bit of a misnomer, since the organization that added them in the first place isn't the same one as that which is providing this footage. The Open Championship can't add the graphics back because there is no "the" graphics -- and anyway the graphics aren't theirs to add.
@@CinemaDemocratica I figured that too. This is the raw feed from the R&A that gets fed to your local station and then they use their own graphics. There's one a few places where I think the graphics are basically given from the source...Augusta being one of them.
@@danielgermano3505 Personally I think Sergio is great player with the exception of his spotty putting skills. He'd have more wins under his belt if that putter worked a little more often.
Agreed 100% The Tiger Slam was amazing, but he was still an overpowering game. Liverpool was definatley Tiger in his prime. He took the bunkers and rough out pf play with iron off the tee, and attacked with his second shot and played away from the flag when necessary. Sergio played really well, but you could see when driver put the rough in play and made his second shot more difficult.
The funny thing about the phones bothering Tiger, (and other players) is that the phones don't really have a shutter that makes noise! Its a feature of the phone that makes the sound of a camera......the average Joe didn't realize that could take silent pics by just changing the app settings.
Has an Open ever been so burnt out? I saw an interview with Tiger who said he was surprised by just how brown the entire course was. "The balls would land and a big puff of dust would explode from the ground it was so dry"
yeah it was weird hearing the President of the course/club/association commend the team on the great condition of the course and then Tiger echoed the sentiment in his speech. I don't think they have an irrigation system since they are so close to the water. If that's case, that's all well in good when you get the rainfall needed, but when you don't you end up with a really rundown looking course.
@@stephaniezimbalist3757 That's part of what gives The Open its character. The courses depend more on the weather than the other Majors. This presents different challenges for the players each time they play the course and gives them an opportunity to demonstrate just how good they truly are.
