  • This setup shows how to perform a complete migration from Exchange to Microsoft 365 when there are no linkages in place like Hybrid or Azure AD.
In this migration we take a completely standalone On Premises Exchange environment and migrate the mailboxes to Microsoft 365.
    * Setup the service account on the On Premises Exchange server
    * Configure EWS and the access from external tools to access data
    * Access rights required on the source environment
    * Setup Modern Auth for access into the target M365 environment
    * Configure the Application Registration in Microsoft 365
    * Autodiscover the mailboxes from the source and bring into the project
    * Perform the pre-stage and full migrations
A complete end to end walkthrough of a migration.

Great video. Requesting you to please increase the audio output on this video as I can barely hear you even at full volume.
    Thank you!!

Hi. I have had some comments about the sound, however when I play it online it does seem good. I will however, in future videos, increase the volume and make it all much louder. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time.

After all the mailboxes have been migrated. What is involved in decommissioning the Exchange Server? Exchange won't uninstall if it still has mailboxes that reside it's database. Please advise on next steps.

Hi David. True, the mailboxes need to go before you can cleanly remove it. I do have a link here for my article on decommissioning the last Exchange server, however that is geared towards a Hybrid environment although most of it will still ring true. As for a mailbox migration using the BT tool, this will leave the source mailboxes in place (Hybrid migrations destroy the source), so a cleanup is required. To not give the wrong advice, drop me a note to mark@thecloudgeezer.com and lets chat, as there are a number of ways to do it depending on your situation.

Thank you for the response, after performing the migration in the video shown, that also means that although you need to clear up old mailboxes on the local exchange, it also means that those mailboxes are not relevant anymore right? As 365 will now be the primary source for the hosting of the mailboxes etc.

Hi there. is there a way to reach out to you? i have a further query
      scenario:
      on prem AD
      on prem Exch 2013
      newly created 365 tennant.
Azure AD connector setup and synced to 365.
a user license assigned, yet its not creating the mailbox in 365 as it knows on prem exists.
how do i get past this? we are going to use Bit Titan for big bang approach. 115 mailboxes
      thanks!

Does the full migration in bit titan copy all the items from the source to destination or does it move all the items during the migration?

    • @thecloudgeezer
      @thecloudgeezer  10 месяцев назад

Hi. The Full Migration will copy everything from the source to destination. It also keeps track of what it did so if you run another full migration then it will copy any additional items and not recopy/duplicate what it already did. The normal way is to perform a 'prestage', copying all data up to around 30 days prior, then do a 'full migration' to get the delta moved over. That way the cutover process on your migration night is a lot quicker. Reach out to me at mark@thecloudgeezer.com if you want to dive deeper into those, happy to help out. Mark.
