In this instructional video, Redcon1 Head Trainer Joe Bennett addresses the topic of should you be doing barbell curls? This is a great question, because it's a basic exercise we are all told at one point that we need to include into our programs, however, as Bennett describes, not everyone is physically suited to do the exercise. One must be able to rotate (supinate) the wrist to at least 100 degrees (with the barbell being at a fixed 180 degrees) and secondly, your hands must stay in the same position throughout the entire rep. People not suited for barbell curls, but continue to do them may be at risk for injury in the elbow and shoulder, as well as tendonitis. The key aspect is for the elbow joint to be positioned directed up and down. Any flare outs to the elbows is an unnatural position to perform a curl and can lead to injury. Only if you have wrist flexibility and range of motion should you being doing barbell curls.

What about should I barbell bench press??? I ask because barbell bench press does not work for my body, just not sure why. Thanks!
That's one of biomechanic explanation with absolutely correct information right there. The demonstration and explanation is simply fantastic.
For me, I choose dumbbell curls. Because it gives you full range of motion, it gives less stress on your shoulders and your elbows and it helps you gain muscle hypertrophy on your biceps.

Wow, I didn’t know that so there are some people that can supinate their wrists 100° today. I did barbell curls and I never felt such a good pump on them like before like I did them with like plates and this time and it felt really really good now for Dumbo Cruz I don’t really feel like I don’t know dumbbells I feel like sometimes it just carries more on my shoulder but I guess now this video makes me understand that some people have better connections on dumbbells, and some people have a better connection on the barbell

for another alternative, you can use EZ bar for curling, cuz it more comfortable for the wrist joint it selft

I'm not able to use a barbell due to sharp pain in the underside of my forearm. Using an EZ bar isn't as bad but if I can just replace them both with dumbbells then I'm all for it.

But what about an easy curl (or EZ) bar?
If I use a barbell, I do use Ez Curls with a lighter weight and supinate my wrist as much as possible. I do not have a biological or physiological explanation, other than, for me, it feels a lot easier on my wrist and joints.
