In December of 2020 I went to my Audi dealer to buy a '21 Q5 Prestige. The car was tight, too tight. I was turned off by the infotainment screen jutting up from the dash. The Q5 was like being in a smartphone. I want a driver's machine and after 35 year in Audi's, I ordered a Stelvio Ti Sport fully optioned. Delivery in early May.
What is special is that it is not a distracting car to drive. It’s comfy and focuses on the driving. BMW and Mercedes are too busy with their interiors. A few pluses... you can get better deals on Stelvio than you can with other luxury brands. I suggest that real world prices also make it a must buy for what you get. I’ve just decided to lease a q4 Stelvio because I’ll be paying the same amount as if I was leasing a 2wd VW golf.
Transaction prices in the real world have the Stelvio leasing and selling for far less than a similar X3 and driving worlds better. And while the Alfa "is not creative", BMW flat out refuses to sell people Android Auto, because who cares about that half of your potential market. This vehicle delivers RWD-based AWD capability, sublime suspension and weight balance and some of the most supportive seats you can get for less than six figures. All the people moaning about buying Mercs and Audis instead should do exactly that, and leave the interesting vehicles to more interesting people.

@@stevehammes Got it! Your's is a parody on auto reviews. The whole point is to insult your viewers intelligence in order to see who, if anyone, notices. Cool ... not!
Why do people insist the Stelvio “resides on the smaller side of small SUVs”? Don’t you people check car dimensions? If not, the Stelvio is marginally bigger than most competitors. Cargo space is 4% less with rear seats up than X3, Q5 and GLC, and 4% more than what you get in a XC60 or a Macan. It even offers the same or more cargo space with rear seats down. I really don’t understand why so many RUclipsrs make these biased reviews showing clear prejudice on either the brand or its origin.
Steve Hammes New Car Reviews The thing is, the Honda CR-V is 8cm shorter than the Stelvio and maybe even more relevant: 5cm narrower. And that’s natural since it’s not even the same car segment. Stelvio most direct competitors are Audi Q5, BMW X3, Merc GLC, Volvo XC60, Jag F-Pace, Macan, etc. From all of these, the F-Pace is the only one bigger than the Stelvio.
Steve Hammes New Car Reviews EPA is clearly wrong mixing up the smaller CR-V with the Stelvio. ...and O clearly don’t see how a smaller and narrower car can offer both more cargo and passengers space at the same time. Something funny there!
If you want more tech, drive an Apple...I mean Tesla pile of crap! Tech is not driving, driving is an enjoyed art by true car fans. Alfa is a superb driving machine. No car should compete with your computer.
The Stelvio resides on the lower size of the smaller SUVs by what standards? You should take a look at www.automobiledimension.com/car-comparison.php Unfortunately it's very common to see partial reviews as this one. You enter a German car and you start looking for the luxury finishing. You enter an Alfa-Romeo and you start looking for negative things to say about it. Maybe the Stelvio isn't fully up there with the Germans in terms of interior quality, but it's still very good even with some fine details you don't find on the others. I always recommend people to try to do the opposite. Try looking for the luxury aspects of a Stelvio interior and you will find them. Try looking for faults or inferior aspects on German cars and you will find them as well. The Stelvio is also lighter due to the use of clever materials, more powerfull and better balanced in terms of weight distribution than similar priced SUVs which makes it clearly much more dynamic, interesting and enjoyale to drive. If you just want a practical SUV, you might want to look for other more boxy options with more cargo space. But despite the Stelvio being clearly more oriented to appeal to those who want an SUV but like to drive and actually enjoy the difference of driving a 'drivers car', I also know people with a less "drivers car" mindset owning, enjoying and actually happy with their Stelvio SUVs.
Partial reviews? You basically said everything I said except we completely disagree on Alfa's crap interior...nowhere near where it should be for the $$$.
@@stevehammes Plain and simple is not crap! Yes the infotainment still lags, but it supports the usual smartphones as any other, and another big difference in this 2020 revision is that the quality of the poor materials and center console found on previous versions are now up with the best if not better and if you don't like aluminum finishing you might go for real oak or walnut. You can also have an affordable noise reduction pack if you don't mind to add a bit extra weight. Also, contrary to what you said, since the Stelvio is actually up there in size amongst its closest rivals (X3, Q5, GLC, XC60, etc), the available interior space is not that different than its rivals. In fact, it has just 4% less cargo space than the BMW, Audi and Mercedes and even 8% more than the Volvo, the only one that really offers better interior space for the occupants. The Stelvio is not that different in terms of practicality on the "U" part of the "SUV" while still clearly better in the "S" part of it. I agree with you on this: If dynamic driving is not your thing, there are other options to consider. But then again, if you just prefer to have something different and special than the usual stuff because the way the Stelvio looks and drives, it wouldn't disappoint, on the contrary judging by the opinion of those who got one who claim it is the best for the money.
Sorry Steve having purchased and lived with this car I can attest you are wrong. That is the difference between a day or two of driving a car and living with it. It drives amazing and wants to be pushed and the electronics are more than adequate.
How much do I care about driving? Hmm... let’s see, stuck at home because of Corona with no social life, no parties, concerts or games to attend... no gym no workplace no eating out. All lil ol poor me can hope for is some fun while I drive in circles around town. I’d say I care a whole damn lot about driving!! Get a Stelvio folks.. it will keep you smiling through the bends and in these crappy times..
@@stevehammes I suppose for Alfa Romeo, that's an accomplishment to be proud of. I can hear the PR wheel spinning from Turan, Italy...'we finished within the top 10 in quality in our class'. Let's celebrate with sausage and pizza!

Alfa and SUV should never be in the same sentence..... They will go under. Concentrating on the US market and abandoning the European market was a massive mistake...... as was concentrating on SUVs.
The 2020 Stelvio is the best driving SUV ever made. You don't buy an Alfa for the latest electronics.
Yeah, I mean if you want to see 144Hz on your car display you are definitely not in the Alfa market.

Nice review. I love Alfa Romeo’s and bought a Giulia in 2018. Great driving car and so far all good on reliability.

Are we just going to ignore that bush grill?
We are.
Hate to correct you. The platform is a new one. And the next gen Dodge Journey will share it.
Did I even mention the platform? This is the same as the one I tested in 2018.

Like an Italian Supermodel, great for a memorable weekend but not necessarily someone you want to take home to meet your mother.
Pretty much!
Great review, Steve
Glad you liked it!
Top alfa Stelvio
Two alfa dealers nearest to me both closed because of poor sales. I can't see the company lasting much longer in the US.
Same here. Albany's just closed.
Get them before they are gone. There will never be another SUV as awesome as this.

For you, Billy. Just for you ;-)
At this price point I would rather go for the BMW X3 M40i or Porsche Macan S.
PRICE POINT? What does it means? Maybe you should say, “at this price”
This is not at the same price point. It can be had for £15k less than a similarly specced Macan S.
let an Italian review the car in Italian
So many better choices for le$$………….
...but its a lease, so you pay less and you give it back in 2-3 years...
I never lease, a losing proposition unless you own a business and can write it off.
Improving the tech is meaningless if the car isn't reliable.
