MMA boils down to your skillset, which is determined by who wins more of the exchanges. If you see Volk v Ilia, Volk won most of the exchanges. Unfortunately Ilia is a beast and only needs to win one exchange decisively to put Volk's lights out. Max however can take the punch. Topuria talked a lil bad about him. He would have reasons to. He seems calm about it, probably understanding it was a fight.
Huge max fan but I don’t get how people are saying he is going to smash ilia. He has lost to Dustin twice , got pushed to a tough decision vs Yair, and even took good amount of damage vs Korean zombie ( who is essentially washed at this point). Ilia has looked nothing but crisp and on fire for all of recent history, and also made Josh Emmitt look like an amateur and no one does that. This fight is going to be closer in favor of ilia.

Jeez, people immediately jump to a wrong conclusion when elite fighters say "puncher's chance'. It doesn't mean swinging for the fences like a drunk ape and landing a single lucky punch. No, it means Illia will land but the question is how cleanly and whether it will be powerful enough to crack Max's legendary chin.
I agree with Volk here. Stylistically, Max is the hardest matchup for Illia. Yes Topuira hits hard and is pretty slick with his boxing, but Max has solid boxing as well and top of that has a chin like nobody else in the game. With a resume of fighting prime Conor McGregor, Jeremy Stephens, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje and being knocked down practically just once is insane. On top of that Max has great takedown defense and kicks that might present a lot of problems for Illia.
For me this fight is a coin toss. Could go anyway.
To me it just seems like basic boxing except he uses the cage to his advantage. I will say his boxing is beautiful to watch and he looks powerful as can be.

The formula doesn't apply. It rarely does, the "this person beat that person so he should win" kinda stuff isn't accurate. You can train and get better, things change, injuries happen etc.

I was a Ilia hater been spanish myself because of the casuals were born around me, but the hate towards him and the understimating has made me become a fan in the last few days. I think Ilia has more than a puncher’s chance. He’s a complete fighter. Still, I favor Max. He has a great chin, tremendous boxing, take down defense, conditioning and experience. I think it’ll be a 5 round war where Max gets his hand raised.

The only time Max was stopped was in his very 1 st fight in the UFC and has fought some of the best. Ilia has that dangerous combination of speed and power. I would lean more toward Max but if Ilia became the first guy to KO Max i wouldnt be surprised.

Not claiming illia isn’t a threat but don’t be naive thinking Max can’t handle Ilia’s pressure. He’s already been pressured by bigger and better boxers. If Max fights smart this is close to a coinflip . Can see Max picking away at him with the kicks and jabs and even hurting him at some point but Ilia is not going to be too far behind on volume and all it takes is a couple of big shots a round that get a clear reaction (Doesn’t need to drop him) for judges to potentially swing the round to Ilia . Max has the big weight cut too which only gets harder year after year. Ilia alittle wrestling upside and I’d say more finishing upside but finishing is close and I expect goes the distance . Basically slight lean to Ilia like he wins 53 to 55 out of 100 times
