Out of all the Travlers across both games, honestly Agnea really is my favorite amongst all of them. Sure her story may be simple and low stakes, but thats to its benefit imo. Not every single story NEEDS to be filled with high stakes and drama, and as a huge RPG fan I've really come to appreciate more lighthearted tales nowadays with Agnea's story probably being one of the best examples. She's just a village girl with a dream, and she wants to bring smiles to the world one person at a time. Most of all she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty to make those smiles happen, her steadfast determination in wanting to make everyone happy is honestly really admirable and I love her story the most because of it. I don't even think I speak from protag bias when I say that, Agnea honestly really exemplifies to me that not every story has to be so high stakes to be good. It's okay to just have a chill story that doesn't take itself extremely seriously or anything. Sure there are plenty of better stories out there full of drama, but its the more down to earth stories that I've come to appreciate so much now. Edit: It pleased me immensely to see that you enjoyed Agnea. She's very hit or miss for people cause of her low stakes story, so it made me very happy to hear that ya liked her!
Stange, I generally hear that it's people's least favrorite. Partially because it feels malplaced and so disconnected from everything else. To me, Partitio did a better job of balancing a generally more lighthearted tone, positive energy, integration into the narrative and game, while also giving the sense that Partitio legit made the world a better place. While Agnea's was a bit too samey and one one throughout. I can see why some people like it, but to me it felt out of place.
She was definitely tied for my favorite character with Hikari. Agnie will always have a special place in my heart And Song of Hope is probably my favorite character theme in all games I've ever played
So glad that pretty much everyone loves OT2. I also love that it's multiplatform, meaning even more people will know how great this series is. It now being at a million copies sold is just icing on the cake!
I really love this game so much Beautiful world Wonderful characters Interesting stories The duo stories The day abd night abilities The fact that all 16 abilities connect to 4 core abilities Getting items, summons, by passing a character and getting info There's always an easy to get what you want Fantastic game
I really love this game, I hope videos like this help to spread the word about it, it really is one of the best games of an already amazing year. Great review. Your favorites stories are different than mine (Castti moved me to tears in two ocations), but I liked every story, really.
Thanks for making a review, this is one of those games that got criminally underlooked and basically forgot about after the first 2 weeks so this gets the word out on it better!
I haven’t played jrpg for so long after agarest, FF series. Ever since I got my hand on Octopath 2 I never stop playing it. Music, Characters, dialogues, npcs, towns, maps, stories, jobs etc… I got hooked in. I love the game and will replay it again and again.
Game of the year and best RPG of all time for me. Contrary to you Castti is my favourite story in OT2 and surpases even Cyrus from OT1 as my favourite in the series.
This game is EASILY in my top 10 rpgs ever. Possibly top 5. I had so much fun with this one, I couldn't put it down. Partitios theme? Come on. Thanks for the video.
Great review! ^_^ I definitely relate to the "sometimes not jiving with a game's soundtrack until listening to it on it's own" thing. Fire Emblem Three Houses, Final Fantasy XV, Xenoblade 2 and Persona 5 were soundtracks I enjoyed but wasn't crazy about at first; listening to them on their own after completing them though, I grew to love em and appreciate them more over time. Not sure what it is; sometimes I instantly recognize a soundtrack to be a bop and tracks get stuck in my head for weeks, other times, it takes a listen through outside the context of the game itself. It's odd. 🤔
Okay I was with you until you said Persona 5. What! The OST is amazing right out the gate! Haha, but I'm glad you've come around either way. YES, that I completely understand!
@@PelvicGaming I know! xD I've listened to the P5 OST for SO many hours since 2017. I have no idea what my past self was thinking. I'll be curious to see if the eventual P6 or the soon to be released FFXVI will be an instant bop for me or something I gradually appreciate over time 🙂
Absolutely stunning game, shot up to my favourite JRPG of all time. And Wildly overlooked! Great review thanks, making me want to listen to the soundtrack again and maybe try that one eyed mammoth option boss thing, I never figured out how to do it that one!
Oooo, won’t be able to watch until after work later today but if anyone can answer in the meantime - is there any narrative connection to the first game or would I be able to jump in with this game without worry?
@@PelvicGaming thanks for the response! Usually a lurker but I guess it’s only right for me to let you know I dig the videos and appreciate you turning me on to some fire games I otherwise would have missed. Keep well and be smooth 🤙🏼
Pelvic, is the "true ending" handled better in this game than the original? The OG game hid the true boss/ending behind obscure side missions. Is there more clarity with regards to how to access the post-game in Octopath 2?
the true ending is indeed handled better. without going too deep into spoilers the games is very clear about when the final story is available. I would still recommend doing almost if not all of the sidequests prior, but it isnt actually necessary to do a specific sidequest chain this time.
You convinced me I need to put down TOTK for a bit and finish this game now 😅 I’m surprised the day/night system wasn’t as heavily advertised given how strongly it impacts this game. I guess in 2023 that’s not much of a novelty in games, but Octopath 2 does a lot with it. You can even switch to night mode on the title screen and hear a night version of the main theme!
I had trouble with what I felt like was an absurd encounter rate with low level mobs that took ~60 seconds of the same routine every time for very low reward, and some busted village skills (love Agnea, and despite her low stake story that I enjoyed, the skill of “just give me thing” seemed a bit much) but I’m excited to give it another whirl!
I think it does wear on you after a while, thankfully there are skills to mitigate the encounter rate. I do think Bravely Default spoiled us with being able to togged on and off the encounter rate.
I started with Partitio, which I feel like is not a common choice. I really enjoyed picking up he and Agnea first though, because it gave my journey that kind of “humble beginnings” vibe and then it ramped up when I got to the darker stories of the other characters (especially those in the eastern continent). The order I acquired the characters was: Partitio > Agnea > Hikari > Castti > Ochette > Osvald > Temenos > Throné
You're the first reviewer to acknowledge music motifs from OT1 here but I wish you mentioned a few, like 1 or 2. I've heard that Ku's theme takes from Riverlands and Flamechurch sounds like Flamesgrace
@@jawadalikhan2077 I don't doubt that, but since it's being made by the same people who made the messenger, I'm pretty confident. While the demo was just a vertical slice. It sold me on the product.
I'll be real this is the best review I've seen of Octopath Traveler II, I'm Subscribing. I bought this day one as I love the first game, got up too chapter 3 with all characters before taking a break to play Atelier Ryza 3 and I can't wait too get back into it. Easily Octopath Traveler II is becoming my game of the year. Got to ask though what made you decide to get the Switch version?
Hey, I'm part of a cursed bloodline, too; Hikari and I could be heresy buddies! But yes, I have TOTALLY had that experience with soundtracks, and it's gone in both directions. My go-to for that was Mega Man 10, which I thought was fine in-game, but listening to it out of context I was completely blown away.
Sorry this comment is late - did this game address the issues of the first game where the stories felt like your party wasnt there, and the grind was INSANE
Did an eyeroll when I first saw Castti, too, but I thought they did a really good job with her character. I think the only story that didnt interest me that much was Ochette but even she has fun gameplay and is in a beautiful location.
I didn’t get to play the first game but saw the final boss thanks to my brother. I may have to give this a whirl while waiting for more Persona goodness. I’m so excited to try this.

Oh nooo, I was just about to filter any Octopath Traveler II content and info because I want to play this SO bad and I have so many other things left to play. How dare you make a video about it, let alone say it's good!
someone mentioned below that the game got over looked. do you think it was maybe because the demo felt so similar to the first? Maybe the bad thoughts of random encounters and grinding came back for some? For my part, i love the art style so much that im currently debating hard, if i want to go at it. i definitely suffered from the grinding, random encounters and nearly hour long boss battles only to die. is it worth another 60 hours or is it just more of the same? is the art style worth such a massive undertaking? these are my question to you, and also how grindy is it in general? ps. just stumbled upon your channel. great energy, concise messaging, clear voice and subtle humor. subscribed!
Lady P, have you heard of Chained Echoes? It an RPG that released earlier this year that pays homage to a lot of JRPGs of the past. You should check it out one day. Also, glad to see the influx of videos lately. 😁
Im around 75 hours in so far.. its definitely one of the best RPGs i played in a long time probably since XB2.. its wayy better then first game by a country mile but it doesnt fix a few problems like being able too switch yo party outside of a tavern!!!! Having too switch in and out 7 characters since the character you choose first is locked in yo party until endgame too level them can be a pain the ass since characters who are not in yo party gains no EXP!! But grinding is less tedious this time around for damn sure... Amazing game
Does oct. Path 1 play a role at all in 2? I'm asking because my girl got me part 2. And i never played one. It looks amazing and I'm excited to try this game out on my steam deck.
Its honestly hard recommending that franchise because of its interconnected lore across more than 8 (150 hour) titles. That being said, getting through Cold Steel IV after playing the games before it was INSANELY REWARDING. Not a lot of JRPG series can match that level of hype of having such an ensemble cast I'm glad Falcom has the balls to do something like this
I played the demo of the first game but never committed but played and finished this one and really enjoyed it, love the characters, music and battle system, also a big fan of the path action, wish more jrpgs did that, so you interact with NPC's more instead of an unimportant dialogue. One thing I wish they added was better unlockable jobs, I wasn't a fan of the few secret ones. Lastly I dont want to go into depth on this one but I really enjoyed the mystery aspect to it, I wish more jrpg did that, combining murder mystery, thriller and jrpg into one
I ended up trying this game after all, even though I dropped the prequel due to its many issues. This game does not fix every problem I have with Octopath, but it's so much better that I don't even think about what I hate about it while playing. It truly is a fantastic game, contender for GOTY probably. Still liked Future Redeemed more, but that's not really a game I guess
Great review of a great game. Dont wana spoil anything but there is a super tough optional boss at end game if you wana try him out. Fantastic fight. Thoroughly enjoyed octo 2 even more than 1.
@@PelvicGaming wow thanks for the fast reply! I love your content haha one of my new favorite channels and yeah I'm thinking of doing Oswald as my 2nd starting character I also messed up and used all nuts on hikari so yikes way to op buttt he will be ready to go when I get to the side bosses
@@PelvicGaming Castti's story is about therapeutic nihilism (which the villain falls into). The mother and daughter story also deals with what it means to be a medical professional. Way more graceful than FFXVI at least.
Great review once again. There are just some things that I think they could have done better. The game could be more player friendly regarding the grinding (Bravely had the random battle % chosen by the player from -100% to +100% for example, BD spoiled me a bit). I'm also not a fan of how the battle system is unfair. Unlike the press turn system of smt or the bravely system of bd, everything the player can do, the enemy is able to. In octopath the battle system is one sided. Only enemies have shields to break.
I would LOVE if they gave us the BD system in regards to random battles. I'm with you 100% I honestly don't mind, and I believe it would make battles too easy, specifically random encounters, considering we go first, we can wipe most if not all of them out, and when they go they what? Knock off a few shield points? Yes, I'm sure it can't be reworked, but I don't mind the one-sided ness in this case.
I get what you mean, but I think that in octopath traveler the battle system is one sided in the player favor. Only you can accumulate turns and spend BP for that. Enemies dont get to do that.. and this is why they gave them shields, to try that balance that advantage that only you have. I do agree with you that BD and SMT are more even and that makes both of those games harder than octopath in general.
@@leogi7 Oh you are right! I re-read your comment and now I see that you were actually saying that it was unfair for the enemies haha. My bad I assumed the opposite! This is the problem of reading comments and a lazy monday. I 100% agree with you then haha.
@@PelvicGaming That's a shame! For some retrogamers chanels they make some moves and not for our favorite girl Pelvic... Great review btw. Glad you are continuing to enlight us. THANKS! Have a wonderfull day.
The only way this game did not surpass the original was in the music, but that's not a bad thing. The music was really good, but the OST for the first one is probably my favorite game music ever. It set the bar for this one through the roof. Hikari and Temenos were my favs. Amazing game and right there with Azure for the best games this year.
Nani????? It has arguably one of the best soundtracks a game (not just jrpg) has ever had And cotc has a better OST than OT1 too, since it has banger new tracks while also using most (all? tbh I'm not sure) of the same tracks from 1
I have to try this … original it’s good but halfway through the game there’s like an XP grind that you have to go through to move on. I hope this one doesn’t have it.
Why does the switch and ps4 versions have this washed out look to them? It seems to be a little worse on switch but this is completely absent on the PC version and even the PS5 version which is the version i chose, no washed out look, native 4K resolution and a constant and stable 60fps, at first i thought it was just the way OT1 looked but first i noticed the steam version of OT1 didnt have it and i thought it was completely gone for OT2 until i finally saw footage from the last gen versions on both switch and ps4, its almost as if the brightness and white out effect are both turned all the way up
@@PelvicGaming You’re welcome! The main reason I didn’t go out and buy OT2 immediately is because I’m currently 30 hours into nier automata and i can’t start anything else until I’ve seen all the endings 😂 Being an rpg fan is time-consuming lol
Overall, I loved it. However, as you alluded to in the review, after 100-plus hours, random combat turned the end of the game into a slog for me. I started to swear out loud as I waded through meaningless combat encounter after combat encounter trying to wrap up some stories when I was already over-leveled and had no need for more experience points. I was actually getting really sick of the game in the final hours until the epilogue, where I could walk around and talk to everyone I had grown to love without any more f-ing random combat encounters of having to click the action button over and over again without challenge, just drudgery. As for Castti, I could have enjoyed her story if a) the storyline about her being part of an evil organization everyone was scared to death of didn't fizzle out and b) if she didn't walk around in poison rain without any protective gear when she had a long time to prepare for it. Random thought: there was a minor sidequest involving one of the reformed villains going to hang out with the racist leader of the humans on the Beastling island and the dialogue in that was bizarrely robotic and it just seemed pointless and horrible.
I highly was suprised with the first game way back in the 3DS days. I have yet to get or play 2 since I have way to many of a backlog of games to go through still.
I didn't want to buy it because they have a mobile version you can play for free with some microtransactions. Why would I pay $60 full retail for something they've already put on the phone?

I played the demo of the first game but never committed but played and finished this one and really enjoyed it, love the characters, music and battle system, also a big fan of the path action, wish more jrpgs did that, so you interact with NPC's more instead of an unimportant dialogue. One thing I wish they added was better unlockable jobs, I wasn't a fan of the few secret ones. Lastly I dont want to go into depth on this one but I really enjoyed the mystery aspect to it, I wish more jrpg did that, combining murder mystery, thriller and jrpg into one
you don't have to play the first one to understand this one?
sorry for my bad English.
did you play trails from zero you might be singing a different tune👀
This game was fantastic!
Yes it was!
Can't wait to play Octopath 2 on SD OLED!
Do I need to play 1 to understand 2?
No, you don't need to play the first game.
Yay! Just what I was waiting for! Think lll get it. Haven't played a game in over a year 😢
If you want some excellent stories with a great cast, look no further!
Great review of a great game. Dont wana spoil anything but there is a super tough optional boss at end game if you wana try him out. Fantastic fight. Thoroughly enjoyed octo 2 even more than 1.
Oh no, I was too scared to try 'em out. I know what it is tho. ;D
Does sea of stars count as jrpg?
More people need to talk about this game I got it for my 27th Bday on july 1st my only gripe is I have to let hikari my main die to feel any challenge
He is hands down the strongest
@@PelvicGaming wow thanks for the fast reply! I love your content haha one of my new favorite channels and yeah I'm thinking of doing Oswald as my 2nd starting character I also messed up and used all nuts on hikari so yikes way to op buttt he will be ready to go when I get to the side bosses
I started with Hikaru he is sooo damn powerful especially Armmasters Hikari... I was killing bosses in like 6 turns
Solid review, lacks dinosaurs though, hope you get the FFXVI code!
This game… people it’s fun we need major support for #3
Definitely makes me want to play Octopath 2. But that means I have to finish Octopath 1 first
It...actually doesn't. I mean I love Octopath I don't get me wrong, but this is completely separate.
@@PelvicGaming Oh I know the stories are different and separate, I just want to clear my backlog before starting something new 😭
Casttii has the best story, the purple rain part may be the game highlight.
Ehhh, to each their own. BUT her story did make me emotional with the mother and daughter.
@@PelvicGaming Castti's story is about therapeutic nihilism (which the villain falls into). The mother and daughter story also deals with what it means to be a medical professional.
Way more graceful than FFXVI at least.
The fact this game didn‘t get a single nomination for GOTY feels like a crime…
Great review once again.
There are just some things that I think they could have done better. The game could be more player friendly regarding the grinding (Bravely had the random battle % chosen by the player from -100% to +100% for example, BD spoiled me a bit).
I'm also not a fan of how the battle system is unfair. Unlike the press turn system of smt or the bravely system of bd, everything the player can do, the enemy is able to. In octopath the battle system is one sided. Only enemies have shields to break.
I would LOVE if they gave us the BD system in regards to random battles. I'm with you 100%
I honestly don't mind, and I believe it would make battles too easy, specifically random encounters, considering we go first, we can wipe most if not all of them out, and when they go they what? Knock off a few shield points? Yes, I'm sure it can't be reworked, but I don't mind the one-sided ness in this case.
I get what you mean, but I think that in octopath traveler the battle system is one sided in the player favor. Only you can accumulate turns and spend BP for that. Enemies dont get to do that.. and this is why they gave them shields, to try that balance that advantage that only you have. I do agree with you that BD and SMT are more even and that makes both of those games harder than octopath in general.
@@claudio3431 Yes exactly, I think it would be interesting if the enemy could exploit weakeness as the player can
@@leogi7 Oh you are right! I re-read your comment and now I see that you were actually saying that it was unfair for the enemies haha. My bad I assumed the opposite! This is the problem of reading comments and a lazy monday. I 100% agree with you then haha.
They really should have send you one physical copy! A shame. Thanks again dear Pelvic and take care!
That isn't a common thing nowadays unless you're a big wig YT and even then... But alas I'll take what I can get. LOL
@@PelvicGaming That's a shame! For some retrogamers chanels they make some moves and not for our favorite girl Pelvic... Great review btw. Glad you are continuing to enlight us. THANKS! Have a wonderfull day.
......I asked this before, what does the name pelvic gaming mean?
Obviously she plays games with her pelvis
Beautiful game and awesome review!!
Loved the game, but quit for awhile after being defeated by Father in Throné's story. A 10-15min battle.
The only way this game did not surpass the original was in the music, but that's not a bad thing. The music was really good, but the OST for the first one is probably my favorite game music ever. It set the bar for this one through the roof. Hikari and Temenos were my favs. Amazing game and right there with Azure for the best games this year.
Nani????? It has arguably one of the best soundtracks a game (not just jrpg) has ever had
And cotc has a better OST than OT1 too, since it has banger new tracks while also using most (all? tbh I'm not sure) of the same tracks from 1
I have to try this … original it’s good but halfway through the game there’s like an XP grind that you have to go through to move on. I hope this one doesn’t have it.
You've come a long way
Thank you.
This game reminds me of Ragnarok Online 🤩🤩
🎊For algorithm! 🎉
A returning comment for the algorithm!
Why does the switch and ps4 versions have this washed out look to them? It seems to be a little worse on switch but this is completely absent on the PC version and even the PS5 version which is the version i chose, no washed out look, native 4K resolution and a constant and stable 60fps, at first i thought it was just the way OT1 looked but first i noticed the steam version of OT1 didnt have it and i thought it was completely gone for OT2 until i finally saw footage from the last gen versions on both switch and ps4, its almost as if the brightness and white out effect are both turned all the way up
It's the 2nd best turn based rpg for me. Honkai star rail just really that good despite being a gacha and trails ripoff
People are sleeping on this game! It’s the best jrpg of the year easily.
It's a fantastic game and I wish it got more love!
Aww yeah, traveling them octopis.
I put 30 hours towards this game thus far. Great go to game when you feel like playing a single player.
U clearly didnt play Chained Echoes!!!🤩
That came out last year. And honestly I could see OT2 being double in length and having more uplifting themes being preferred by most people.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You always manage to sell me on games I otherwise might not have picked up
Oh wow! Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear that!
@@PelvicGaming You’re welcome! The main reason I didn’t go out and buy OT2 immediately is because I’m currently 30 hours into nier automata and i can’t start anything else until I’ve seen all the endings 😂 Being an rpg fan is time-consuming lol
Idk if Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes is even dropping this year but I truly feel it will be the best turn based JRPG to drop if it is
It’s not 😂
I still don't understand why you have to travel so much to use your telepathy on the octopus.
3DS days? Are you referring to Bravely Default?
The first game is on switch lmao
I'm lucky to get my copy for free lol
How are you gonna make such a claim when Xenoblade 3 FR came out
There is this thing called a opinion bro.. me personally I like Octopath 2 better then XB3 as well.
Man if only I had the time to play both the OT games. They look so interesting
Final fantasy 16 enters the chat….
I did say so far...
Ff16 was a bore lol
@@omensoffate you tripping lol
@@PelvicGamingafter playing both I would say this was the best rpg last year
👍🏾
Gentlemen of Culture heads up.... 0:16 and 4:09 are the only two times she shows that beautiful face today
pelvic gaming lol
Better than FFXVI for sure
Trails to Azure enters chat
Ok, best JRPG of the year, FFXVI is piss.
I didn't want to buy it because they have a mobile version you can play for free with some microtransactions. Why would I pay $60 full retail for something they've already put on the phone?
That one is a complete different game. It plays more like a gacha than this one.
Nothing "best" about it.
Definition of a worthless snoozefest
You are so beautiful. Do you have a boyfriend? Love your video review, my dear. ❤
The fuck. Thats so weird.
My guy’s shooting his shot.
@catatonic165 Yes, yes, i am very eccentric and weird, though closed minds never go anywhere 😌
@Ichigo111293 But i doubt that she will contact me though and go thru with my "application process." 🤣🤣🤣
Thrones last chapter 🔥
Pelvic ik you like rpgs but I haven't seen your video on FEAR & HUNGER yet the games no rpg WORTH playing if you havent hopped on 🙏👍
I love it but already got games to play.
I’ve actually been interested in this one!! Didn’t click with the first one, but this review sold me!! Thanks Lady Pelvic🫡🤩
