Surprisingly the loader has not been uploaded in full on this game before,...that's where I come in ;-)

Thanx for letting me know about Rastan and X-out! I'll most definitely check them out. Keep up the good work, making old gamer's memories come back to life again!

I don't know how to thank u that I can finally see this game in full. I have it and can never get past screen one. It's so tough. But I was always curious of what the whole game might look like. Thanks a lot!

No problem,...just sub in return ;-)
I always include the full loading screens, title music, full game and endings on my uploads even if it means me using cheats, many channels don't bother.
      Thanks for watching.

Thanx, Zeus. My daughter, who's ten, also laughed her ass off when I asked her about it. So she got my cellphone, and subscribed me in to your work for me. Will be most excitedly looking foreward to more of your stuff. See yah, and thanks again!

No problem, hope you enjoy the content on my channel,...word of warning, my "shit game time" vids do contain swearing mainly out of frustration,...just in case your daughter tunes in ;-)

0:11 How do they do that bit where the loading screen is drawn in at 8 pixels (4 multicolour) lines at a time and can this be recreated with higher colour depths (with video editing software)?

That's actually the weird memory layout of the C64's bitmap mode for you.
Truth is, the VIC-II chip is still really a character-based video chip, even in "bitmap mode". So the first 8 bytes are the first 8 x 8 character (or 4 x 8 colour in multicolour mode), then the next 8 bytes are the second 8 x 8 character and so on.
Like, in character modes, the VIC looks in screen RAM and gets a character code byte. Then it looks up that character definition (in character ROM or user-defined character definitions) and draws that.
But, in so-called "bitmap mode", what the VIC does is just have those character definitions right there in screen RAM directly.
This, no doubt, made the chip cheaper and easier to implement, as it's just re-using the circuitry from the character mode in "bitmap mode", but re-arranging the memory layout (so that, in effect, the screen RAM just becomes a really big character definition table that's 1000 - 40 x 25 - characters long, so every character on screen can have its own unique definition).
So this cool effect actually comes 100% for free. Just load bytes sequentially into screen RAM, and they'll fill up the screen in the order you see.
(Well, in reality, the loader routine would actually be loading in the screen RAM bytes, but there's also the colour information for the whole 8x8 character block interleaved in there as well, as you've got to set the right colours too.)
How would you fake this effect in modern video editing?
I reckon the easiest way to do it is to create an animation that masks out the image underneath with black rectangles.
For each (fake) "row" of the image, you have a black rectangle extending across the screen to cover the image. So, at first, the entire image is masked out by black rectangles and all you see is a black screen.
Then, on the first row, you just shrink that rectangle (right-aligned), revealing the image underneath. When that row's rectangle has shrunk to nothing, go to the next row down and do the same thing.
The trick is seeing it backwards. Building the image up in small pieces would be a big, slightly insane editing job. But if you do it backwards then it becomes easy - the full image is already there, under your mask, but you're slowly removing the mask to reveal that image underneath.
The other cool thing of doing it this way, is that you could potentially create a GIF / PNG animation (GIF or PNG because we need transparency to show through the image underneath) of this "black mask that slowly disappears" and then stick it on top of any image at all. A bit of work creating the black mask animation in the first place, but then you could just re-use it again and again for any image, and make anything look like it's loading in from a C64 tape.

Loader tracks will always amaze me- such a great piece, but I wonder how many ever heard it in full?
I had the Atari ST version of this game as a kid and only discovered the C64 version recently. I don't remember the music from the ST version and can't seem to find it anywhere- would you be able to tell me if it was any different?

I'm not sure but here is the Amiga version so you can judge :-) ruclips.net/video/2Nf8WdhDoXA/видео.html
The loader music doesn't finish before the game loads but I managed to stop the loading so I could upload it in full here, hope you enjoyed it.

ZEUSDAZ - THE UNEMULATED RETRO GAME CHANNEL I actually found a video comparing all versions- watch?v=b6E05d0NGsU it's recorded from a TV and has commentary over it, but the music's loud enough to hear. Seems Tel's composition was used in the amiga and atari versison too, but Spectrum and CPC had a different track!
Great upload, by the way- even today Cybernoid 2's soundtrack sits among the absolute best.

Many thanks, I just felt it was about time a video was uploaded showing everything of this game.

Thanx, Zeus. You're a great guy for having warned me. But don't worry, we live in Italy. I grew up half English, Half Italian. She is fully Italian, so she doesn't know the English language very well, but then again, I suspect anyone knows the words shit and fuck! But I don't she's interested in her dad's old games. Anyway will the games Flimbo's quest, Rastan, Strider, X-out be making an appaerance on your channel sometime in the future? Most of all Flimbo's Quest, because it's a game I haven't cleared and think it probably had the best grafix the 64 had for a game ever. As usual, thanx a lot. See yah!

Hi, C64 version of Rastan has already been recorded, I'm just waiting to upload it along with all the other Rastan versions I've recorded which includes DOS footage and the first longplay of the 128k Spectrum version.
X-Out C64 verson has just been uploaded on my channel so check it out: ruclips.net/video/LvwUmviVQrY/видео.html
I doubt if Flimbo's Quest will be featured on my channel as It's not my kind of game,...but you never know ;-)

It had nice graphics and sound but at the time I couldn't be bothered figuring out the gameplay so cheated and just smashed everything (like the guy in the Demons movie says).
