🤣🤣🤣 that is too funny. It is not easy doing some things as the ground is literally solid. We wanted to go get wood chip and manure but it’s frozen also at the garden centre. Brr 🥶 again today but 🌞🌞🌞. Yes I can’t wait but surprisingly I have been quite strict about not sowing a lot of stuff. Last year at this time every flat surface in the house had seed trays 🤣. the occasional drying out of plants does more good than permanently being wet. i had to look fop this programme. your spring flowering bulbs will be ok. i'm having a go at growing giant lilies this year. i'e seen bigger bulbs when i've bought asiatic lilies. you tube doesn't always inform me when you put a video up, ali. i've checked my status and i'm still subscribed................brian
That is good to know as one of my biggest problems is over watering. My giant or tree Lillie’s are stunning Brian and the smell as I walk through the garden is amazing. I have several colours and the bulbs just get bigger over time as do the plants. I appreciate that you are here and always commenting with sound advice. It is supposed to rain and maybe snow for the next few days but funny enough that means it’s warmed up 2c 🥵 this morning 😂. I was shocked the broad beans did so well as last year they all died and turned black but then it did hit -17c last Jan 😱😱.

Oh I was devastated 😭 if it doesn’t come back (highly unlikely) I’ll have to buy another one with a cage around it. So odd the elephant garlic were both done exactly the same way but I saw a teeny tiny shoot in the other one so 🤞🤞. Pouring rain today finally (first time in weeks) but could get snow tomorrow. Yes consensus is leaning towards crocosmia so pot it is. Have a fab weekend 👍

I am shocked they are about but if they survive the flooding in the yard (I thought their tunnels would flood and drown them) then I guess a bit of cold doesn’t bother them. It is sunny and freezing all in one day 🤣 but I won’t complain because it’s supposed to snow in the next few days 😱. Bring on the hot sunny days of summer 🙏
It always amazes me how much gets through winter. Frozen solid and they just sit there. The washer tub plunger looks great what a great find. I love lupins but nowhere near as much as slugs do in my garden. Hope it warms up a little for you though those slug eggs are taking a beating hopefully. Here's not too bad now our last storm has gone lots of damage for some folks. All the best Ali. 🌦️
I am happy the broad beans are ok last year they froze turned black and died 😭. We are due snow this coming weekend so,they will be happy tucked up snug. Yes my wish is it does some damage to the slug population 🤞🤞. Happy that you didn’t have too much damage but yes I’ve seen some really unfortunate things people are dealing with still. Ah thank you 🙏 the broad beans are so far ok in the snow tucked away. Gerald cleared a lot of the snow off my poly and vegepods. They were quite cheap,for stacking pots I’m hoping I can grow lettuces in them 🤞. Have a fab week stay 🥰

Hi Ali. How the frost lifted the paths. Frost heave. Nice n' crunchy lol. The bulbs look like gladioli. I'm sure the broad beans will stand back up, once everything defrosts. Lovely cold, dry weather. I prefer that to the cold wet weather we get. Everything seems to ache laugh. I like your wooly hat. The ones they sell here, ride up and sit on your head lol. ❤Richard mentioned about your garlic, next to the cupboard. Are they in soil? My, everything is frozen solid there. 🤣🤣 we have 2 gladioli and 2 crocosmia so pots it is 😂. Broad beans in one vegepod will go in a bed and get a wee stake to hold them up. But winter things in the vegepods are way happier than in beds at the moment. We are due snow on the weekend 🤦♀️. I made my woolly hat but didn’t get much knitting done this winter
All my garlic is in soil but I did top them up a wee bit with some lovely mushroom 🍄 manure. Glad your getting a bit of sunshine cold or not it makes all the difference to our psychi. Happy sowings to you both ♥️💙💜

Oh good news thank you I was afraid to water them as last year I watered one to mush 😭. Oh fab I thought that too just a nice small 🥬 as we don’t eat a lot. I was quite shocked the broad beans did so well since last year they all turned black and died. But these vegepods are proving to be amazing at keeping things alive e 👍👍. There were 2 envelopes so hopefully the second one comes soon.

I mentioned that to Gerald he thinks 🤞🤞 it shouldn’t move enough to hit or damage the window. It has been cold all week,again but the sun is delightful as long as your dressed appropriately. My broadbeans are doing well in the circumstances and I’m loving the vegepods to grow in.

It is VERY chilly there, I hope it starts to get a bit milder for you. The snapdragons are great. I have a few that have wintered over so far. I have taken some cuttings from them and put them on my windowsill. Don’t know if they will take but it is worth a try I think. Thanks for showing us what you have going on. As we get a bit older we seem to “manicure” it less but in summer it still reminds us of a park and we love it. Yes trees are beautiful until the high winds come then the high anxiety comes too. I'm amazed you have so much both not dead and actually growing in that temperature, which is the same here this weekend but it'll get slightly milder next week. I have a few not dead as well, but we might have lots of frost still this winter.
It has been the mildest January since about 1939 😱 but pouring rain today. I didn’t realize you have channel but I’ve subbed now 👍. It’s states Norway is that where you live now such a beautiful country. I’m not doing much else and definitely not outside. Last year I like so many over did things and every flat surface in the house had seed trays on it with leggy seedlings 🌱
@@myrustygarden My plan is to take it very easy this year because I plan to move, and I don't know where yet, so it's best not to have too many plants with special care needs during the process. No sun on windows until April, east side of the house, north side of a hill, so anything I start needs grow lights.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has just one lonely chilli germinated.
Honestly I have had crap success with elephant garlic, one year I planted them and they did nothing so I thought perhaps the ground was too wet. So I planted them in big pots outside and again nothing they rotted 😰😰. This year I thought ok I’m doing in pots instead but inside so I can control the moisture 🤪 50% success but hey better than my track record and I’m hoping to save bulbs and grow my own stock. Oh I’d live to vacuum 🤣🤣 my poly floors. I am totally flabbergasted at how crappy almost all my onion and peppers did so far 🤦♀️, but we keep going 👍👍
@ in that case I admire your perseverance in trying to get it to grow. I might try it once in my new place and if it’s not successful I’ll resign myself to be elephant garlic-less

Hi Ali, I`ve never sown flower seeds in a plastic bottle like that. I think it`s more common practice on your side of the world. Does it work? I`m thinking of my wild flower seeds, that are not doing so well in trays outside. Maybe they would do better in bottles. At least in there the blackbirds wouldn`t be able to dig them up.
I did “bottle” sowing last year as yes it seems a thing over here. There are lots of videos on it of course. I haven’t done flowers before but have done brassicas this way. The only good benefit is they can be out in the cold but as slugs emerge hungry for new plants these are somewhat protected. There is a lady in the northern part of the USA that has rows of bottles in her snow banks. So it’s worth giving it a try and some fun too.
