- Hello folks! It is time for another upload from the Queen I tour, and this is a special upload of sorts. There is a subscriber named “KieranIsHome” who is absolutely in love with this show and has pestered me for a long while to upload it. Between trying to get some sleep and living my life outside of RUclips, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked to upload Birmingham 1973! Well, today is your lucky day, “KieranIsHome!” After reading many comments by him praising this show and mentioning the performances, I became intrigued and really gave this show multiple listens before uploading it. I hope “KieranIsHome” comments on all of these performances - otherwise, I’ll be quite disappointed.
Originally, this show was somewhat incomplete as the recording cut out during “Keep Yourself Alive” (which caused “Jailhouse Rock” and the rock and roll medley section to not be recorded). Thanks to the efforts of “Beyondthemoon” and “CamAaron,” a second source of the show was located and then merged into the original source - creating a nearly complete showcase of this show. While “Keep Yourself Alive” is still incomplete and the “Jailhouse Rock” medley is cut, having most of the show now available is a massive upgrade and a big shout-out goes out to the two aforementioned souls responsible for everything!
“Father To Son” is a great version overall with the performance getting stronger as it goes on and Freddie sounds gorgeous during the falsetto vocal lines at the end. “Son And Daughter” ranks among the best live versions of all time as Freddie aggressively and confidently delivers the song with Roger absolutely slaying the performance with his spirited drumming. “Ogre Battle” has some sour intonation in spots from Freddie, but he generally sounds great with the rest of the band playing an aggressive version of the song. “Hangman” is another top tier version with Freddie delivering a fantastic rendition, Brian tearing everything up in the solo section, and Roger drumming like a madman. “Keep Yourself Alive” is excellent as the musicianship is extremely spirited with Freddie being gutsy and going for the “better every day” original melody (although it has had cleaner attempts). The “Jailhouse Rock” medley highlights the raw and youthful energy from the band along with Freddie not being shy about throwing his voice around. Finally, “Bama Lama Bama Loo” keeps up the frantic pace and Freddie delivers some pretty strong vocals!

Hey, Greg! Was this the Mott the hoople tour? The one I missed at the Erlanger theater in Philadelphia?... PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME GO HANG MYSELF! 🙀😸😸😸!!! And, THANKS, ONCE AGAIN, AND AS ALWAYS, FOR THE UPLOAD!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm guessing that there is NOT a DVD of this show available...
They did support Mott the Hoople on this tour as well but this was in support of their first album. Their first American tour was for Queen II in April and May 1974
Are you getting mixed up with Birmingham in the UK, and Birmingham in the USA? This was Queen's first tour, supporting Mott The Hoople in the UK.
@@barrymitchell6444 no... No confusion! I know it was before the Erlanger show, but I don't know if it was the same tour, but it was around the same time, so I missed, STUPIDLY, an amazing show!!!
@@mymelancholyboots set a time frame is closed; what's it the same tour? -The one that had to be cut short because Brian got hepatitis?
@@timnotbrianmay That was the Queen II Tour in 1974, yeah! This show is from Queen I, which was UK only and lasted from November to December 1973. Queen II was a UK leg in March and early April 1974, then the US in April and May before it had to be cut short due to Brian's hepatitis
