Funny how , less than 10 seconds into the video, the first thing I notice is the Star Trek logos in the background. That's already deserving of a like! But I might be biased.
I love this. My father loved making things out of walnut. His favorite finish was Tungoil. He was partial to Formby’s. He’s been gone a few years and this was a little nostalgic for me watching you apply the oil. Love the table.
I like how your video shows the process behind the build and educational as well. Especially where you mentioned why the miter saw didn’t kick back the tendon. For a new woodworker like me this is what I like to see!!
Brings back memories of watching my late father making furniture, more modern skills that I’m sure he would have appreciated , lovely piece , nice work .
I think Chris Salomone at Four Eyes Furniture did a criss cross dining room table a couple years back; I've done criss cross legs on a number of high-touch pieces and they have all held up. Fantastic work, thanks for the video :)
That's a really good-looking table, Marc. I especially like how you chamfered the base mitred joints. It somehow adds a bit of depth and highlights your craftsmanship. Also, I love the humour sprinkled throughout this video.
Because in my mind, the miter saw is faster. :) A cross-cut at the table saw requires a sled or a miter gauge. The miter saw is already built for a cross-cut. So in my shop, that's faster and easier. But no reason you can't use a table saw if that seems more logical to you.
Awesome build! Looks Great! Also thanks for the inspiration for builds without the heavy advertisements of tools that many cannot afford, and as shown, don't even really need!
In my best Borat voice "It is nice. I like it" Really turned out great! Looking forward to the bench build now. You got some beautiful pieces in that top!
That’s an awesome looking table, with a cool design. I was one of those that questioned the little Oliver planer. Haven’t run much through it yet, but it works fantastic. Thank for all you do.
Marc, I am only subbed to a few woodworkers on RUclips, and you are one of those few. This is top notch professional quality work. Your skills keep advancing and your builds get more complicated in reflection of that. To top it off, you designed this yourself. Outstanding, as always!
It's funny hearing "now I can finally shave my legs" at least that's how I heard it and I turned around to see the video because I thought for sure you were showing your leg....😂
Great table. Love the design. I have a coffee table in a very similar design I'm going to make soon (by soon I mean hopefully this year). The only difference is I'm going to change the x design to a boxed x so there is more stretcher support to reduce the side to side wobble. I'll report back if it works!
I see some streaks when the finish is applied - it looks a bit like sanding marks? Do you know why this happened? Had happened to me recently, and I'm not really sure why, but would like to avoid it in the future.
On your chop saw, you also remove the tenon before raising the blade back up, thereby removing the chance that the blade teeth grab the tenon and tweak it AND your stop block out of position,
Good morning from Texas, Marc. I built an octagon poker table a while back with criss-cross legs similar to yours. I also wondered about the rigidity of the assembly, so I added criss-cross stretchers about 10" below the top. Still out of the way and they added more strength to the build. That walnut is "real purty". Thanks.
The table is beautiful, Mark. It's sort of an art deco design. I know you said you were going to make a matching bench, but what do you expect a chair in the same style would look like?
I LOVE this piece! Years ago I brazed together the iron sides of an old Singer sewing machine treadle base into a + shaped base for my kitchen table, topped with a circle of slate I cut from a pool table center slate. It has a similar twisty springiness, but nothing too bad. To my eye, those inserts looked like the type designed for softwood, with aggressive toothy threads. Hardwood inserts usually have smooth threads that shouldn't fight you so much going into walnut. But now that they're installed, it doesn't really matter for your purposes. I'm sure they'll be more than strong enough.
Love it! This is so similar to a design I have in my head only mine using ply. Yet to float the design by the boss but we are a year away from having the space so I have time.
Great video. Great design elements on the table edge (curved and nice bevel). Keep up the great work. Criss cross design is definitely a cool one. Never done it myself but definitely have seen it before. Chris and Shaun over at Four Eyes do it pretty often.
We generally restrict those sales because the templates don't come with any kind of instructions. Gets confusing when people are then looking for assistance but they didn't purchase the course.
Very cool design!! Question: you live in Missouri, which has the best walnut (I am told.) Were you wanting lumber with knots? Or was clear lumber unavailable?
Clear walnut is not as easy to come by as you might think. That’s said, everything about the top was intentional. I have clear walnut on-hand but that wasn’t what I was looking for.
Very cool table Marc. I did something similar based off of your midcentury modern table from a while back except I criss-crossed the legs like you did with this one.
"Pork Roll Makes You Strong!!"... You're showing your roots! I live at Exit 7, below the Taylor Ham/Pork Roll line of demarcation. Nice build, BTW.
Love the shirt. Horizon forbidden dawn was my most played game of 2022. I think it was over 100+ hrs.
Funny how , less than 10 seconds into the video, the first thing I notice is the Star Trek logos in the background. That's already deserving of a like!

Thanks for the tech tip on matching corners.
That looks a 100X better than the crap in so-called high-end furniture stores these days. Nice elegant design Marc.
Thank you for the Cris Cross reference. As soon as I read the title I was singing the song in my head 😁

@@tlum4081 yep this was the piece I had in mind!
Another beautiful build. And your narration and videography is on point, as always.

Thank you very much!
Here’s your upvote love the cross-cross jump cut
It’s a gorgeous table! I love the shape and walnut just holds a special place in my heart
Great work! I like the overall design, and slight curves placed in the top. Adding the matching bench was a nice touch as well.
That is one sweet table!
A very nice build and finished table. The crisscross design is really makes a series of triangles the strongest geometric form!!
It looks nice, but how do chairs and your legs fit under it? Do you collide a lot with the table legs?
So question, why did you choose to do the tenon cuts on the miter saw vs the table saw? Just curious as in my mind the table saw would be faster.

13:09 Great video as always. Back when I installed modular office furniture, we used to call the local moving service "TWO FU@KS AND A TRUCK"!
Love the honesty regarding any future maintenance that may be needed on the finish! 😂

Will you be making a video for some chairs that match the table and bench?

Beautiful krisskross table!
"Uh- huh uh- huh!"
I really like the cleat design, it’s a strong and creative way to attach the tabletop
Beautiful work. Good video production quality. I need more of this.
Very cool. I made a similar table a while back
That is one sweet table, beautiful work!
Yes! My man! Thanks Marc.
This is a truly elegant design, Marc. And of course a beautiful build. Congratulations.

Where did you buy the sanding blocks as seen @ 12:10 marker ….

Thank you
Is there a temperature limit for glue ups? For instance when is the temperature too low for a goof glue up? 30 degrees fahrenheit?
Each glue has a specific working temperature on the label. Anything near 50F starts to get dicey.
Great looking table, Marc~! I didn't think that I'd like the criss-cross legs, but they really look good. Love that heavy Walnut~!
Beautiful table and a great design. Thank you for sharing.
Looks great.
Really like the table, nice work
Well done as always, Marc.
Gorgeous table. Love that style and Walnut.
Great build keep the furniture builds coming!
I see some streaks when the finish is applied - it looks a bit like sanding marks? Do you know why this happened? Had happened to me recently, and I'm not really sure why, but would like to avoid it in the future.
Sanding marks from rushing and not doing the final passes with the grain. I re-sanded and re-oiled and the streaks are gone.
You are so talented. Great work.
On your chop saw, you also remove the tenon before raising the blade back up, thereby removing the chance that the blade teeth grab the tenon and tweak it AND your stop block out of position,
Really Nice Job
Beautiful!!! Has a nice MCM vibe for my anesthetics or Scandinavian vibe for those whose just love wood working art ❤👏
Excellent clip usage in this one. And lovely project as always.
How much you reckon the wood for this costs.
Pretty expensive base for your Oliver planer.... 😊 Beautiful table!
Great looking table. Reminds me of some of the leg designs Chris Shaun produce at Four Eyes Furnitue
Looks great! I think four eyes furniture may have done similar in the past. They quite like this style.
How do you know what the correct speed should be for that bit at 6:43?
I find the speed that makes my table rattle like crazy and dial the speed one notch lower. :)
@@woodwhisperer ooooooh I got. Thanks.
Is there any particular reason you screwed the cleats onto the base, as well as glued? It seems like the glue would be plenty strong.
Because it's hidden and doesn't hurt to add it, so why not?
Love your design!
Very nice craftsman, as usual 👌 Walnut is enjoyable to work with

Turned out beautiful amazing work
Very enjoyable video. Thanks for posting.
Great build I like the shape of the top but my favourite are the legs they look killer.
Can this design go to 12’?
its a breath of fresh air to hear someone like you say you struggled at something with wood working
Stick around. I struggle all the time, especially with design. :)
How many coats of the Tung Oil mixture did you do?
About 5 in total.
@@woodwhisperer Sanding in between? 220?
Nope. Usually no need with an oil.
