Thank you for the explanation about the coat. I've heard that you 'shouldn't' clipper the top, and that being desexed makes some kind of difference, but the exact reason why has been kept secret! Is this all spaniels? I have started grooming a ruby Cav and his owners want to keep him un-clippered. He is due for desexing very soon. I feel like I should mention this to his owners as they are very good people. It is a dilemma that desexing is generally considered very responsible, yet to know that it is recognised that it ruins the coat permanently is really so heart breaking! Thank you also for showing a doggy on the table who is not standing perfectly and entirely co-operative. I feel that I spend 90% of the time with my head tipped over and trying to keep up with dogs that walk around while I'm trying to make them beautiful! Thanks you so much for a great informative video.
Spaniels that are bred for working can be docked legally. Mine was bred for working and was docked legally with all papers (done by a vet legal to dock etc. Same with rear dew claws). But thankfully just the end was taken off and not right down, because that isn't necessary. I do hate it when they're docked right to a little stump. My dog has a long tail and all that was taken off was the curl at the end, which is the part that's usually damaged when working.
I didn’t know that about the coat. That makes sense now. My in-tact male has beautiful shiny coat, but my spayed fellas has wooly thick dull hair.

Hi how do you clip around the chest, last time I did my dog it went really weird like super short there compared to the rest of it
I thought tail docking was banned in Britain. My spaniel has a gorgeous long tail!
Not for working spaniels. Mine was a worker in his first few years and his is docked, it would’ve been shredded by brambles if not

Typical spaniel behaviour!
