I moved to Canberra 11 years ago. I visited all of Canberra plus Queanbeyan in a week, mind you I was only 25. I eventually grew to love Canberra and now I call it home. I wouldn't trade it for anything else. When sun goes down on a week day the city sleeps on weekends the city is alive.
Canberra is one of those underestimated places. There is more happening there than you think but you need to look a little harder and have wider interests than in the bigger cities. BTW I've always heard two theories on the meaning of Canberra, first that it means 'meeting place' which is why it was chosen and second, the place between breasts. Perhaps it simply means the meeting place between two breasts. We should refer to Canberra as the bosom of the nation. May she nourish us all.
Canberra had the chance to find out from the last Aboriginal woman who spoke the language but the young Aboriginal people refused to put the effort in to recording the language and it was lost
Tony really GREAT STUFF. Keep up the GREAT WORK. SUCH AN ENCOURAGMENT. To stay active for THE older generation.!!!NEVER TO OLD TO EXPLORE NEW THINGS AND NEW ADVENTURE,S
When I was young, the 80's, a group of 5-10 of us, from all around the world, spent months living and working in the country side and bush of Canberra working on conservation projects. Each Friday we would shower and dress in clean cloths riding into Woden singing "Woden Woden Woden" to the tune of Raw Hide. I miss those days. Actually I just realized my profile photo is from Canberra.
Having lived most of my life in Canberra, I am going to guess you shot this on a week day. Since it is a government town, 9-5 Monday to Friday is the norm. If this had been a Saturday, very different story.
Hi, born and grow up in the Australian capital territory "Canberra", also my my two children both are second generation Canberran, also where your standing Tony there's light rail now that's all changed
Crazy how much development has changed Canberra so quickly, especially the nature spots and mature trees - most seem to be gone now and more planned to be taken down. A lot of the old buildings also taken down without warning or consideration, and WBG's vision isn't even being acknowledged in the development process anymore - the government only cares about the money, not about the heritage and sadly no-one is stopping them. Actually quite painful to watch this now.
I've visited Canberra twice and found it boring. But I also know people who've lived there and they loved it. Maybe Canberra is one of those places it is better to live than to visit.
The biggest gripe about how Canberra is portrayed is the use of lazy shorthand in the media: Canberra decided this, Canberra said this ... Meaning that Federal Parliament decided.
Hello, i'm interested in Canberra and i want to know more about it, is there a possibility for us to chat about it, i believe locals always tell the truth better
When I was in Canberra the Rangers were telling me a very sad story. There was one Aboriginal woman who knew The complete language of the area the young people were supposed to record the language and save it but they were too busy protesting and screaming about rights and all that sort of thing and they let her die without recording it .
Can you do a program on the UK islands, especially Guernsey, where I live. I'd really like to know if & when we were French & about becoming English or were we always English from when the UK became an island
With Time Team they had an episode about Guernsey in fact Tony did choose that spot watch that cheers here is the link if i am allowed to share it ruclips.net/video/lg2wp6E8U84/видео.html
“The name of Australia’s capital is named for a big pair of tits. Is that respectful?” Well, as an Australian who grew up in Canberra, I’d respectfully say that it’s very Australian! Definitely.
It's only when you watch fatuous coverage of something you know that you realise that a large proportion of everything else they do is probably crappy too
A local here. I've heard family members from out of town comment on all the "millionaire public servants" from Canberra. I don't know one. Most are lower paid staff. And there's lots of people not working in the public service here too. And no, I don't see politicians everywhere I go. They come from everywhere else in Australia. They're the locals in other communities. The communities that like to complain about Canberra.
Standing in the top end of town, Manuka, asking ratepayers, if they mind buying houses on the parliamentary 'living away from home allowance ' legally, renting room's to back and front benchers, Menzies would disagree, with today's liberal party and build some social housing, rather than destroy whats left, not destroying the main avenue, Northbourne, with much social housing demolished, gone, move the poor out of sight, Tony your wrong Melbourne was centre of government ,and king omalleys is the Boot & Flogger, before they kicked out the poor
canberra can be fun for about a day, after you have been through the main attractions its dull, unless your really into "fancy malls" that are all developed by lend lease and you find the public service interesting than it for you, I find the place has a weird vibe everyone stares at you when you pass by them and its not to say g'day, its just to stareeeee with freaky eyes

I will now refer to Canberra as bosom of the nation! 😂
Wow. I was gonna say something smartassed. But I won't speak disrespectful of another's capitol. Since I've family in Australia.
Canberra. Its the Tit's dude.
Okay. I lied.

Long live the Queen.
God bless Australia.

Nothing more Australian than a man and his dog taking a duffel bag for a walk.

That scene where he’s standing in the middle of road
In civic on lovely grass, there are trams there now, ☹️
Yes much improved now
Can't stop progress. Especially on a planned city.
@@LordDavid04 it would be nice if it came to Woden or Tuggeranong though?
@@classicfords8171 stage two will go to Woden. Another fun fact Woden is named after the Norse God Odin, aka Wodan, Woden or Wotan.
You have trams in Canberra now? Awesome!

they care about hiding our history. thats why they are destroying and replacing with low quality stuff to depress us into being something were not.
Oh that is shit what is a country without heritage and streets lined with trees and national parks 🦋 That sucks for sure 😐
They've ruined it!

It is pretty boring
You have to be genetically Canberran to like the place lol
I never knew Tony came to Canberra good on him

overdeveloped now, was good in the 90's now it looks like a Lend Lease display model 100x the size
Spot on
Hmm. How do you build a capitol?
Well first you find a swamp. Drain it. Oh. No wait. That's America. Lol.

we are all soulless because of the geometrical design of canberra. it harnesses our powers toward the parliment house, thats how they feed on us.
